Marking my place.

I had my 28 week midwife appointment (actually 29 weeks today). She tried to take blood from me but my body wasn't giving out any. I have rubbish veins and it's always a struggle to get any. She had to ask another colleague to come in and have a go. The other colleague did manage to get some but she said it wasn't a huge amount - just enough to test with hopefully but I might have to go back and have it redrawn.

I also had to blow into the CO monitor and I blew a 6!!!! I don't smoke neither does DH, nor do I live or work in smoky environments. The only thing I can think of is that it was from being in my MIL's car. She smokes but has recently stopped due to being diagnosed with COPD weeks ago. But I was on her car a few weeks ago and I blew 0. So weird.

Baby girl's heartbeat was 137 BPM. Midwife reckons she's head down but not engaged. Joked she was getting ready to leave 😬

I had my glucose test on Wednesday and haven't received a phone call as of yet. The lady who took my blood said I would only hear if I had gestational diabetes but didn't say how long it would take to hear back though I'm assuming between 1-2 days.

Anyone else having trouble agreeing on a name? I feel like this little one is going to be nameless when she arrives at this rate 😂

Chanteuse · 28/07/2023 19:42

@Phoenixwings1989 sounds like a busy week! We’re set on a name now just thinking of middle names to go with it.

Placemarking. 29 weeks and 5 days.

Today was my DD's 4th birthday, she had a ball but my god am I knackered! Off on holiday tomorrow, just staying in Ireland so hope I'm able to enjoy it without being too exhausted.

DH and I have narrowed it down to 2 names Smile

Placemarking. 27+1 - got my Anti-D and 28 week midwife appointment next week. Can’t believe how fast time is flying x

BeaKind · 28/07/2023 22:31

Ladies with one or more already, how are you doing it?!

I work 3.5 days a week so only have my little boy for 1.5 days on my own and I’m finding it exhausting! How on earth am I going to cope with two?! 😫 He’s 2 and a half and watching way more tv than I ever wanted him too. (Maybe an hour a day).

We go outside as much as possible but he’s just constantly on the go.

Saturnsmoon · 28/07/2023 23:31

Place marking - 30 weeks today which feels exciting and a bit terrifying at the same time.

@Phoenixwings1989 we are nowhere near agreeing on names and we don’t know what we are having so we need to agree on a boys name and a girls name. My husband is of the opinion it can wait till they arrive (we wasn’t named until he was a week old) but the idea of that stresses me out. I want to at least have a very short short list of 2 or 3 to pick from but we aren’t even close to that yet 😅

DancingNancies · 28/07/2023 23:37

Placemarking after being a bit absent recently! Thankfully work is done for the summer so I might actually have time to think now ... though that thinking has to be about both my boys' birthdays before baby even gets a look in!

@Phoenixwings1989 I had a list of names I liked, but hearing DH say them out loud changed my mind on the majority of them, and one that wasn't on my list is currently top contender even though he just threw it out there randomly! So at this rate this boy won't have a name, or a decorated room, and will be living out of a floordrobe - burning guess he won't know any better hey! 😂

Placemarking 💙💗 Appt yesterday measures baby huge and referred for growth scan!

Koalawhala · 29/07/2023 07:47

@BeaKind it is tough when pregnant as it’s so exhausting and in the very beginning when baby is here but you get into the swing of things. Will you have some help with your toddler when baby is here? Will you be able to rest on the days you used to work?

I’m off for summer with my kids and I’m shattered! Trying to make the most of our time together before baby arrives but it is exhausting. Both are school age though so I’ll have a bit of a rest before baby is here in Sept when they’re back

xLMCx · 29/07/2023 08:37

Just marking my place. My toddler has been off nursery all week with chicken pox so exhausted does not cover it this week 🥱

@Phoenixwings1989 I had my diabetes test on Thursday morning and they said I'd hear back the same day if there was any issues. On names, we have narrowed it down to about 4 and have a favourite but not making a firm decision til the baby arrives

Does anyone know how many centiles they need to drop between scans to be a concern? I was measured by the midwife at my 28 week appointment as below the first centile and sent for a growth scan. Baby started off at 20 weeks on the 30th, was the 20th at 23 week growth scan and now the 14th at 28 weeks

We're having growth scans every 3 weeks now given the low midwife measurements and because I have low PAPP-A, but they didn't seem concerned and said I don't need to go back under the consultant. Should have asked more questions but was so worried I wasn't thinking straight!

Phoenixwings1989 · 29/07/2023 09:13

@Chanteuse Yes very busy! Good to hear you've got a name picked and just need a middle name now.

@Saturnsmoon Oh I'm sorry to hear you're in the same boat with choosing names. I'm the same. Waiting until she's here seems unthinkable and I'd rather have something than nothing. Here's hoping we'll like a name soon.

@DancingNancies Yes he will be too small to notice 😂. As for reading and hearing names I'm the same and so is DH. I'll say a name and he'll pull a face saying something like 'oh that's old fashioned' or 'we can't call her that she'll be teased' amongst others and I'm just as bad when he suggests names.

@katherine123x when do you have your growth scan? I have mine on the 14th August due to the risk with low Papp-A. I'm trying not to worry. A lot of people say that baby weight can be inaccurate on an ultrasound but still worried. I've not even had any centile checks yet. If I have I've certainly not been aware of anything. There's nothing on Badgernotes saying anything. I was expecting the midwife to measure bump yesterday but that never happened, either.

I'm feeling quite down today. Since Thursday afternoon there has been pain/discomfort surrounding my bladder. There's just something not right. It feels like I have a catheter in and I don't. My urine flow is short and constantly weeing when on the loo and I'm finding I'm forcing myself to go at times even though I'm trying hard not to. There's no burning or stinging, just this horrendous discomfort and the feeling of pressure. I told the midwife this yesterday after she said my urine sample was clear, so not a UTI and she said it's most likely because she's head down but I've never known anything like this before and I don't like it. I'm due to go away Monday with DD and DH and I'm halfway to cancelling as I don't want to be miserable and on so much discomfort but don't want to let them down as it has been planned for a while. I'm drinking a lot of fluid and still it is persisting. Not sure what to do.

Marking my place x

29 weeks. We had our wedding this week which was absolutely wonderful but also knackering, still recovering from it all. Now that that's over it feels like countdown for baby has officially started! Will start thinking about childcare, big purchases, washing all the baby's clothes, etc. Agreeing a name was surprisingly easy, we were set on one of each before we knew what we're having. We did the gender and name reveal for the family at wedding reception and it's been great to not having to keep it a secret any longer!

Have my anti D next week. They've made a mess of informing me about blood tests for that. When I had my 28w appt I had to go back to room to get my bloods done because lady in reception said they needed a blood sample no older than 7 days for the injection. Then apparently that's not needed anymore so after checking with a midwife she apologised for getting me to draw blood unnecessarily. But yesterday I just received a call from another midwife saying I'll need to go there for yet another blood sample because it needs to be less than 7 days old for injection so now I'm very confused about exactly what the guidelines are and not liking this lack of organisation from my hospital one bit. Did you ladies had to do get a blood sample in advance of the anti D?

Marking place.

27 weeks now. Still finding monitoring movements a bit stressful. Just had to lay down after breakfast for an hour because baby is usually very active when I wake up and he wasn't. Anyway have felt a lot now so pretty sure he's ok, just got to carry on with today trying not to be anxious!

@Phoenixwings1989 I'm a bit similar with the peeing sometimes. I don't have discomfort but sometimes I am back and forth often because I feel like I just haven't emptied everything. No other UTI symptoms though and it comes and goes. Defo annoying and can only imagine it's going to get worse!

Place marking - 30 weeks!

PeopleAreToads · 29/07/2023 09:53

@Phoenixwings1989 midwife may not have measured you because of the low PAPP-A. If you're having growth scans those are much more accurate. They will have taken centile measurements at 20 and 22/23 week scan (if you've had for low PAPP-A) so if they haven't mentioned anything on it it's probably because youre within the normal range. I got a printed scan report that had mine on, but we don't have notes on an app or anything

Placemarking!

26+5 and absolutely exhausted all the time. Having our shower a week today as we have a lot of weddings etc closer to baby being born. Their name is pretty much 100% at this point, we have a couple of middle names we go between but first is basically a given. Clothes and nappies all washed, car seat and pram are here and ready. Nursery currently a dumping ground so will be tackled when we finish decorating our room.

Anyone else having a complete nightmare with their trust? I had my mother with me at booking appt to go through family medical history (achondroplasia and hydrocephalus run pretty heavily down her side) and they seemingly just ignored that (I have since been moved teams and that midwife was removed from the service from what I know). I followed up about it with new midwife from 16w. I brought it up again at 24 weeks because I’ve been midwife-led and wasn’t offered growth scans and turns out it hadn’t been followed up at all. They said because 20w scan was fine there was no concern but should have been consultant-led from start. Genetic counselling called me in a panic basically saying my 20w scan wouldn’t show anything and why didn’t I push to get proper care sooner - this is my first and there’s no way I would have known. Paired with other issues I’ve had I’m getting very nervous about the birth.

@doeandfawn
this sounds awful!
having had my first in another country, I’ve found the midwives here to be absolutely shocking. Most of my appointments are a waste of time, and any questions I’ve ever had they can’t answer. Just a waste of resources.
so sorry you’re going through this!

Another old threader joining here - hope everyone is doing ok.

28+5 now, it's going so quickly!

Started iron tablets as I was super anaemic so hoping they kick in soon as I'm absolutely exhausted and out of breath all the time.

And moving house next week just to add to our to do list!
