so happy i managed to find this ew thread :) xx

@Kalodin I was talking to someone at work about having a baby when the world is literally on fire and they said it's never a good time. They had theirs in the 70s/80s when everyone thought nuclear war might happen and they had power cuts and the mines closed etc. The world is always insane, and it'll never be a perfect place to bring children in to in our lifetime! It is sad but did give me some perspective I suppose. 🤦‍♀️

Gettingbysomehow · 24/07/2023 13:44

I kindly asked my sisters not to have kids on or around Xmas because of the cost. And guess what there are 4 of them born in December or January.....honestly!! 🤐

Buttonmoon86 · 24/07/2023 14:35

Just marking my spot - thank you x

FirstT1meMum · 24/07/2023 15:15

@Mushroo @Mummyme87 thank you! Will make a holiday run tomorrow

Hummusanddipdip · 24/07/2023 15:41

Ohhhh this is a new one. Please tell me I'm not alone in throwing up from bending over!!!

Was on the phone to dh and he asks me about a pen mark ds put on the sofa a while back (asking if we'd managed to wash it off) rather than getting up like a sensible person, I double over to look at it between my legs and promptly get head rush and throw up all over the livingroom... assume it was the angle of the bend. Apparently I can't turn myself upside down???

Luhou · 24/07/2023 15:53

I work in the car industry. Skoda Kodiaq gets my vote for best family car. Although I fancy a Lexus RX myself.

LittleAlien24 · 24/07/2023 16:02

@lilluce95 we have buggy from my youngest one 16 years ago that's still going strong lol got second hand quinny buzz for car seat when going quickly to food shopping and just want to get the carrycot (our old buggy doesn't have the option) for it now.
Have car seat with isofixbase, feeding chair, bouncer, cuddle nest, nursing pillow. I like to buy second hand so started early to find what we like 😁

We really need a new car aswell but we hoping to move next year so won't get it until we move. Have to see then what's available there.

I've my cervix measuring scan tomorrow and im just too worried. Still feel that something is wrong.

Vikki7 · 24/07/2023 16:03

We've got a Kodiaq on order from back in Feb. Hoping to hear from the dealership before baby is here!

Vikki7 · 24/07/2023 16:04

Oh and we've already purchased a Nuna Triv next and a Cari bundle and isofix base as a package as we got it half price from Harrods! I love a good deal!

buckingmad · 24/07/2023 16:24

@Hummusanddipdip yeah I can't bend over for this precise reason!

Mushroo · 24/07/2023 16:54

@Vikki7 thats good! We’ve been thinking about the Nuna. Let me know what you think of it :)

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 17:02

@Luhou i just didn’t find the kodiak big enough. The back seats so squashed and no boot at all when all in use. Probably wouldn’t be the biggest issue if we didn’t do the long drives

had Toby carvery and it absolutely hit the spot. Was stuffed afterwards

Luhou · 24/07/2023 17:33

@Mummyme87 it is a bit of a compromise on the boot with 7 seaters. Do you need a 7 seater? Mazda do blue light discount worth a look. Not sure how many other manufacturers do this too.

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 17:35

@Luhou we will have three kids in car seats, currently got a Tiguan which is great. It wouldn’t fit a baby in! Plus we have a dog, albeit a sausage but a dog never the less. And travel up to Northumberland regularly and down to Devon also.

Luhou · 24/07/2023 17:52

@Mummyme87 tiguan all-space?

Kalodin · 24/07/2023 17:59

Thank you @Onedayatatime24 That's actually a really good point, I hope I don't have to raise it with anyone but it's true.

Haha @Gettingbysomehow January is an expensive month for us too, I've got 4 nieces and nephews plus my Nan and my MIL's birthdays all know January (as well as mine!).

Definitely cannot bend over here either @Hummusanddipdip

RaspberryTime · 24/07/2023 18:06

Afraid I can’t offer any insights into 7-seaters as I have a VW Up! 😂 But thought I’d share that I had my 16 week midwife appointment today and got to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time 🥰🥰🥰

Lilothblos · 24/07/2023 18:35

@RaspberryTime ah that’s so exciting!!

I’ve got my 16 week appt on Wednesday and really hope they listen to the heartbeat but I’ve heard they don’t do it everywhere.

Lilothblos · 24/07/2023 18:37

We’ve actually just ordered the Volvo xc90, already struggling with boot space when we go away with our dog so definitely needed more space.

Hummusanddipdip · 24/07/2023 18:46

My parents are currently debating swapping their V40 for a XC90... its funny listening, mum is firmly camp yes and dad is firmly camp "my van is big enough when we need more room" dh and I are happy with our A-Class it does everything we need for now and can fit a good sized pram in the boot and 2 carseats plus and adult in the back (slight squeeze but possible)

Only issue we have is ds starts school in September, and neither dh or I work near the school he's going to, or eachother for that matter, so it's looking increasingly like we may need to invest in a small run around. Anyone have any thoughts on Clios or Fiestas? They're about the size we're looking at.

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 18:49

@Luhou the all space was so small when we tried it. The back seats just aren’t usable 😖

Loads of small run arounds on the market. Depends on your budget. Can't go to far wrong with a ford. Polo or golf will likely feel a bit more robost but come with a price tag. Honda are quite popular at the moment. They're sturdy and built to last but don't carry the german price tag.

The one manufacturer I would avoid is a Fiat. They look nice but their safety ratings are horrific.

Maybe consider a MPV, the 7 seat SUVs are all quite simillar in that you trade 7 seats for boot space.

Inmydreams88 · 24/07/2023 19:18

First time pregnant here so sorry for the stupid question but I feel majorly bloated and uncomfortable all the time. My belly feels uncomfortable all the time, and even though it’s not painful I feel like it’s tender. I’m assuming this is normal?!
