Yes we had a bugaboo chameleon 3 previous and was great bar the basket. But it’s been upgraded so much. Was looking at the fox 3, wasn’t sure what the difference was with the 3 and 5

RaspberryTime · 24/07/2023 06:23

Weird question time…(it must have been a whole couple of days since I last posted one!)

The not sleeping on your back thing… how ‘on your back’ is on your back? I’ve been trying hard to correct myself in bed if I wake to find myself on my back (I know it’s not right now we have to stop but I’m trying to train myself) and it’s going ok. But for example, I do like a slouchy lay down on the sofa watching tv with my feet on a pouffe in front of me and started thinking is this too much on my back? Or do they mean like totally flat? As I write this down it sounds an even weirder question, sorry!! 🙈

Kalodin · 24/07/2023 06:29

They do mean flat on your back, slouchy I shouldn't imagine is what they mean @RaspberryTime However, slouchy position can make baby end up being back to back positioned (at least from what I'm reading and following on my courses, desperate to avoid another back to back labour).

I know it seems early to worry about that now, and it is, as @Mummyme87 said not to worry about baby positioning until 28 weeks.

But I'm trying to habit build. As usually I slouch across the entire sofa 😂 with DH at the other end giving my footrubs. I've swapped it up for practicing a sitting squat, or sitting on my yoga ball, or sitting in a crossed legged or butterfly pose on floor. And then I get DH to give me head and shoulder massages instead now 😂

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 06:34

Optimal fetal positioning I wouldn’t worry about until 28weeks, then avoid slouching on the sofa.
as for lying flat on back in bed, wouldn’t worry
about that until closer to 3rd trimester, when the weight of the uterus presses on the aorta which causes shortness of breath, then it can result in a slow oxygenated blood return to baby, but not this early as the uterus is low down still. It doesn’t come half way up the abdomen (umbillicus) until 24weeks)

RaspberryTime · 24/07/2023 06:38

@Kalodin @Mummyme87 Thanks both 🤗 Better start experimenting with less slouching. This won’t come easy 😄

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 07:04

Upright Forward and Open - UFO. That’s your mantra

RaspberryTime · 24/07/2023 07:41

@Mummyme87 I’m chanting it 😄

MrsJ6921 · 24/07/2023 08:32

@lilluce95 we have started to research both prams and car seats! Mainly because I bought a new fiat 500 just before I found out I was pregnant so I’m not changing my car for a while (my husband has an Audi so we have no problems fitting a pram in there) and need a pram and car seat that will fit the boot and isofix.

But we have a pram appointment in about 4 weeks at one of the Newbie and Me stores. However, me and my mum are going for a girl shopping trip soon and will definitely be going to John Lewis and Fenwicks to look too!

suz2285 · 24/07/2023 08:42

@RaspberryTime i've been thinking the same as I often lie in bed slouched down reading or something, but I guess i'll know if it starts to become uncomfortable!

Goodness you guys are so organised already looking at things, my mum and me went quickly into Smyths last week (who knew they had a baby area) for a quick look at everything - with plans to research and then buy on FB marketplace where it's so much cheaper! 😂

Hummusanddipdip · 24/07/2023 08:50

I've genuinely not even thought about things yet. Although when we announced the pregnancy quite a few friends started offering me bits that their babies no longer need and family members that had bits of ds's stuff (cot, bath etc) have all started asking if I want it back.

So all we really need to worry about is finding a car seat and a pram/travel system. But we've got 6 months and a garage conversion to get done first 🤣

Mushroo · 24/07/2023 09:23

@RaspberryTime im exactly the same slouching on the sofa! I don’t want to give it up yet as it’s one of the last joys I’ve got left now that caffeine and alcohol are out 😂

I’ll start making some changes over the next few weeks - going to order a yoga ball and a pregnancy pillow to prop me up.

I just know if I try to change to early I’ll get sick of it and go back to slouching.

Redpanda21 · 24/07/2023 09:29

I only had a baby in Feb 22, got rid of quite a few bits though like the tutti bambini cozee, clothes, bouncy ball, baby bouncing seat etc.

I think we’re going to stick with the pushchairs that we have (silvercross pioneer) and have a seated buggy board or have baby in carrier. Will buy everything else second hand and just buy new mattress for the bed.

Wont start until about week 25-30 though.

lilluce95 · 24/07/2023 09:59

@MrsJ6921 a pram appointment?! 🤯 haha! Never too early to start getting an idea I suppose. I'm the same as you, got a new car just before I found out I was pregnant but luckily it's bigger so hopefully fitting a pram in shouldn't be an issue 🤞🏼

Have you found anything you like yet? I've been looking at the Ikkle Bubba Stomp travel system as it comes with the car seat and isofix too so I wouldn't have to worry about getting anything else 😂

MrsJ6921 · 24/07/2023 10:25

@lilluce95 i think they’re really normal especially when picking out a pram! Mama’s and Papa’s do them and also John Lewis - it’s our first baby so I’m just taking in all the experiences tbh!. I also have to plan in advance as I work 6 days on and 4 days rest as I’m a police officer so my shifts dictate my life quite a lot.

we have narrowed it down to the Oyster 3 or the Silver Cross Dune I think! Both are compatible with the Maxi Cosi Pebble and their isofix options fit my car! Some of the bundles online the car seat that come already with the pram don’t fit every car so it’s worth checking this out ☺️. I never knew this until we started to research.

Lightningrain · 24/07/2023 10:29

Loving all the bump photos! I’m another one that’s just got what appears to be bloat in the afternoon/evening rather than an actual bump. I think it does feel harder than usual though when I press on it. I’m 16+3 so assume it’ll appear fairly soon.

I like to slouch on the sofa and in bed reading too so might have to try and work out a better position. I do sleep on my side though so at least I don’t have to worry about sleeping position.

TunnocksTCake · 24/07/2023 11:17

oh wow thread no.5 already! Just catching up... good to know we dont have to worry about lying on our backs, I had it in my head (swear I read it in an app) that you need to stop doing it at 16 weeks but it does feel early for that I must admit, so Im going with @Mummyme87 advice!!

Ive got consultant tomorrow and midwife Wednesday so full on baby week for me then going to Camp bestival with my flight risk toddler (am I mad?) at the weekend 😂everyone please do a sun dance!

I SO want a 16 week gender scan but finding the time and babysitters is putting me off at the moment, so I may well make it to 20 weeks!

I know Im harking back a few pages now but to those feeling anxious - I am the same and was awfully so with my first DD (had 3 MC before her, one MMC) and I actually never got excited really, even when you can feel them you have anxious moments where you think you cant and tbh the worry doesnt stop when they are here, just saying this in case releasing the expectation on yourself to be excited might help some people, I know it has helped me to just accept that I'm anxious and thats ok/ normal/ expected, rather than feeling bad for not being excited. You may not feel that way and thats ok too.

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 11:21

I’m massively craving a big roast dinner with mash potato right now. I may have to take the boys to Toby carvery for lunch 🤤🤤🤤

@TunnocksTCake i want a scan to find out the sex aswell but we are away from Friday, not back until I’m 18weeks then may aswell wait another 4weeks for anomaly scan. I did mention a private scan to OH, he rolled his eyes 😂

the biggest purchase we need is a new car!! Our car is due to go back September and need a 7 seater.

Kalodin · 24/07/2023 11:25

Can I join you @Mummyme87 😅 could demolish that too.

What are you looking at? As I'm tempted to get a new one. I'm not convinced our Astra will fit 3 in the back safely

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 11:50

@Kalodin Toby carvery just hits the spot 🤤
I really want a Volvo xc90 but may need a second mortgage. I did make OH sit in one and he was impressed and much bigger than the 7seater tiguan/kodiak etc. we need some boot space still as have a dog and travel up and down the country a lot. Couldn’t get brand new due to cost but maybe 2017-2020, although our mortgage is up in October so got that going on aswell 😖

FirstT1meMum · 24/07/2023 11:56

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or must haves for travelling? We fly to Spain on Thursday and I was just wondering if there was anything anyone would recommend? I am seeing my midwife Wednesday so will be asking her but if there's anything I can get beforehand saves me running around on Wednesday! Wasn't sure if things like flight socks were recommended?

Mushroo · 24/07/2023 12:00

@FirstT1meMum I was on holiday a couple
of weeks ago and my midwife just said to get flight socks, and be careful with salads / fruit that may be washed in local water if you’re going somewhere where the water isn’t safe to drink.

Otherwise I did struggle a bit in the heat so I’d really recommend a water bottle that keeps your water cold when you’re out and about, I used mine loads (I wouldn’t normally bother taking one but so glad I did).

Mushroo · 24/07/2023 12:01

(although having re-read your post, I think Spanish water is fine so you’ll be ok with salads!)

Kalodin · 24/07/2023 12:23

Urgh you're in the same boat as us @Mummyme87 with the mortgage! Ours ends too in October. That's actually partly why I'm so worried about telling family!

Anyone else worried about people's views about having a baby in this financial climate?

Redpanda21 · 24/07/2023 12:36

@Mummyme87 we’ve just bought a second hand 2014 Audi Q7 as need 6 seats. It’s massive and really top notch. They are really reliable but being an Audi it costs more if you have to replace tyres etc.

We looked at the XC90 - too utilitarian for us, Hyundai Santa Fe - too cheap and plasticky inside, no boot space for pushchair if both back seats were up and if you were sat in the boot seats, you physically cannot get out if you have a big baby seat in the left seat and someone has to let you out on the right side - dangerous if there was an accident imo. Same with the Kia Sorrento, but the benefits of that one is you could get a low mileage one for about £12k and they are economical.

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 13:03

7 seaters are so restrictive aren’t they @Redpanda21 I much prefer the look of the Volvo compared to the Audi, and also OH won’t want one older than 2017. Unless you get a mini bus there’s going to be some compromise but space isn’t something we can compromise on. We sat DS1 who is 9 in the back of the Tiguan all space and his knees were in his chest in the back row with no space at all what so ever, and no boot space. Maybe a mini bus 😬😂

@FirstT1meMum flight stockings, stay hydrated and keep mobile on the plane. I’m travelling in October to Rhodes and I’ll be 25/26weeks so a bit anxious but those are the main things, and being a bit more cautious with foods.

@Kalodin mortgage thing is worrying isn’t it, but nothing you can do other than go with it and cut back in other areas
