Haha @Luhou dh won't touch Fiat with a pole 🤣 he used to deal with their vans, a company he previously worked for has some sort of deal with them... couldn't explain it especially when they were a DAF dealership?
But he is so against them because of their aftercare and how poorly they treat customers... shame as I was looking at a 500 about 12 years ago and he shot me down 🤣

He's also generally against Renault (except clios, first car nostalgia there), although he was quite complimentary of their latest electric car. We used to have a fiesta, we gave it to fil who has said we're welcome to have it back for the 3 months we need it, but it's a 3 door and I don't like the idea of trying to get a baby/carseat in and out. But then, 3 months and then we have time to make a decision ready for my return to work...

I like polos and golf's, but they're outside of our budget, we're only looking at about £3500 to £5000 as it'll only be driven by me out of necessity and we'll use the merc for family trips. I think it's going to be a trip out and test drive to make a decision.

We're quite lucky (if you can say that with the interest rate we signed up for) in that we signed a 5 year fixed term when we bought our house in December, so by the time renewal comes round, we'll be nursery costs free (almost) and we can live in hope that rate will have fallen again and can bring repayments down a bit and maybe reduce the term. I don't like the idea that we will make our final payment the week after my 70th birthday 🤣

Hummusanddipdip · 24/07/2023 19:31

@Inmydreams88 yes discomfort and tenderness are totally normal, everything's stretching and moving about in there. How far are you? A few of those should start to lessen by 12 weeks.

Yeah. I just can't deal with the thought of being in an accident and knowing their safety rating is so horrific.

I'd stick with a ford. You can pick up w focus for about that with pretty low miles. The 1l eco boost petrol is a great car and 5 door big enough for pram/car seat f you need it.

lucya66 · 24/07/2023 19:44

@Hummusanddipdip yes I have this if I bend over too fast and just generally loving about too much.

Mummyme87 · 24/07/2023 19:46

@Luhou i can’t bring myself to have an MPV 😬 and this is why I need OH to agree to a Volvo as we’ve looked at them and they give us enough boot space, comfort in back row and option to have one seat down at the back. We couldn’t have a car that we need to remove a seat out the car as no where to put it. Just cost 💲 challenge!! Also OH won’t have Renault/Citroen/Ford.

I looked in mamas and papas today 😬😬

Luhou · 24/07/2023 19:49

@Mummyme87 sounds like you've got your work cut out convincing DH. Good luck!

Call your local dealership and ask if they do discount for those in NHS (assuming you work for NHS?) Lots do some kind of offer.

EL27 · 24/07/2023 19:56

Hey all,

Hope it's OK to ask for some advice...

So I have told most close family and friends I'm pregnant apart from one of my older sisters. The reason for this is she and her husband have been struggling trying to conceive for several years. She is currently going through IVF. I was planning on telling her when I was 12 weeks, but my mum told me not too as she was just starting the IVF process of injections and the news might stress her out.

I thought it would be better to tell her at the start of her journey rather than later in case of the worse case scenario that the IVF isn't successful. My father and other sister think I should've told her by now and also the fact that my sister may be upset that I have told her much later than I've told everyone else.

I am over 16 weeks now and have no idea what to do, my mum is still strongly advising against me telling her, I think she's hoping I can announce to her I'm pregnant when she is too. (But I know it'll be a few weeks until she knows if she is and then she may want to hold off telling anyone until 12 weeks)

Sorry for the long ramble just wonder if anyone has any thoughts what you think is best for me to do?

Luhou · 24/07/2023 20:17

@EL27 not really much advise but that sounds really tricky. I think maybe you're best to telk her while she still has hope of a successful round. The news post an unsuccessful round could be devistating for her.

LydiaWalker93 · 24/07/2023 20:22

Has anyone struggled with really itchy nipples during pregnancy? If so, how have you coped with this or remedied it?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 24/07/2023 20:50

@EL27 That’s tough. I don’t have any experience but I agree with Luhou that maybe it would be better now when she still has hope. I guess I see it from your mum’s POV but that would only be a good time if she’s successful otherwise it would be an extra blow.

Onedayatatime24 · 24/07/2023 21:48

@EL27 ahh that's really tough. I also think you should tell her. I think I'd want to know, especially if the rest of the family knows already. As long as you know she may react to it differently than what you expect? Like she may not be super excited or have mixed feelings. You're going to have to tell her soon and agree with the others, would be worse after any bad news. Fingers crossed all goes well for her and you can enjoy being pregnant together!

RG9895 · 24/07/2023 21:53

@EL27 I definitely think you should tell her! I got told last year I wouldn't be able to conceive naturally (even though I have now) and went through 3 years of tests and my friends and family still told me as normal when they got pregnant and I was grateful for that. I wouldn't have wanted to be treated differently. Obviously be a bit more tactful and perhaps tell her just you two in the room or something. It is a little bit of a kick in the teeth but I am sure she will be over the moon for you. I was always so pleased when people told me as infertility isn't something you want anyone else to go through. Good luck! ☺️

Dannic2018 · 24/07/2023 22:39

@Mummyme87 we have a Seat Alhambra new shape which is basically the VW Sharan just slightly cheaper. We chose as all 7 seats are suitable for a adult which we didn’t find with any others and each seat unit is separate so we have some up and some down and lots of foot well room in the middle row. We’ve had ours for 4 years and many trips up and down the country and camping and I can’t fault it

cossie13 · 25/07/2023 08:03

Morning all!

It's been a hot minute since I've been on here, haven't really had chance to catch up or pop on since changing roles at work! Hope you're all doing ok!

We're all good, I'm getting bits of queasiness here and there but other than the tiredness, most symptoms seem to have subsided now.

DS and DD had their sports day yesterday and I stupidly decided it was a good idea to take part in the parents race 🫣 hoping I haven't caused any damage to baby now!

Ttcdcno1 · 25/07/2023 08:42

Went out for a meal last night and felt like you could tell I was pregnant rather than just bloating 😂it’s still very much just lower down though but feels like bump is coming along

@Luhou @ThomasinaLivesHere @ThomasinaLivesHere @Onedayatatime24 @RG9895 thanks so much for all your advice! It is a tricky situation but I agree with all what you said I will tell her soon. I will try to tell her in a sensitive way and understand she may have mixed feelings. I'm hoping and praying her round of IVF is successful too.🤞

FirstT1meMum · 25/07/2023 09:15

Morning all! I have my private gender scan tonight! Mixed bag of excitement and a mess of nerves!!!! Spending the day in town with dad to try and keep my mind occupied and to stop it from thinking all sorts!

Luhou · 25/07/2023 09:25

Anybody feeling shamed by the colleagues about how much time they'll be taking for maternity leave.

I feel like when I've said 12 months a few people (mostly old or childless) have been like. Oh wow, that's a long time or made a few comments. Also people making out like I'll be doing nothing. (Again mostly people without children)

RG9895 · 25/07/2023 09:33

@FirstT1meMum omg how exciting!! cant wait to hear what you are having! I cant stop thinking about mine which is tomorrow! 😁

@Luhou easy for me to say but f*ck (can we swear on here? lol) them!! Im having a year off and we absolutely deserve it! We need time to heal and spend with our babies. They're probably just jealous. Dont let them bother you a year is pretty standard and some people never go back! 🥰

Luhou · 25/07/2023 09:50

Thanks @RG9895 I feel the same. I have just tried to be polite. I think maybe the particular comments this morning came from a place or jealousy (think they'd like a baby at some time soon)

I take it as a compliment as I know I'm good at my job and I will leave a gap, but not my problem!!

Mummyme87 · 25/07/2023 09:51

@Luhou my work place are the opposite and if you’re taking less than a year it’s always, oh wow really??? Just ignore them. Financially
I’m a bit anxious about having a year off this time particularly as Christmas is in the no pay party (again) but I would regret anything different. I’ll probably do a couple of KIT days for a bit of cash.

I feel awful today. Woke up at 6.20 when OH went to work and had a banging head. Fell asleep again for about 40mins, vommed twice and still have a headache. I’ve had breakfast now but just don’t feel great at all.

Mummyme87 · 25/07/2023 09:52

@FirstT1meMum scan today is exciting!! Did you have any guesses from your nuchal scan?

Gremlin84 · 25/07/2023 10:05

Any other ladies experiencing the double edged sword that is thicker and fuller hair? Hair on my head looks great - all swishy - but the tweezers are coming out much more often for those annoying chin hairs that seem to appear daily now!

Yes! I’m a hairy yeti anyway and my chin hairs are out of control. I wfh so keep a pair of tweezers at my desk and do it’s when I’m on a call! (Not a video call obviously!).

I was horrified to notice a protruding nose hair the other day! Nose!!

FirstT1meMum · 25/07/2023 10:57

@RG9895 Thank you. Will post an update tonight 🥰

@Mummyme87 I think there was a guess of girl but the picture was so pants it was hard to see!

@Luhou I agree with what has been said in that try and ignore the comments (I know that is so hard, coming from someone who already worried about what people thought, these hormones don't help that!!!). You've just got to remember everyone will have an opinion about everything and you've got to do what is right for you and your family! It's a case of dammed if you do dammed if you don't!
