Thanks for the new thread! How is everyone getting on?

We have our 12 week scan today which is exciting. Had the news that Iโ€™m Group Strep B Positive yesterday which was a bit worrying? Anyone else had this?

Weโ€™ve also been advised we may want to give birth in Stoke over Telford due to a history of premature birth with my DS and Stoke being a specialist hospital. Anyone given birth in Stoke or Telford and happy to share their experiences? Thank you โค๏ธ

Hi @Nellynoo182 I've had two premature babies cared for at Telford. Telford are a level 2 NNU so able to take babies from 28 weeks without additional complications. If you deliver there earlier than 28 weeks they are equipped to deal with it but will typically look to transfer out to a level 3 unit unless baby is in very good condition. Their preference would be to transfer to a level 3 prior to delivery though if pre 28 weeks.

I was transferred to New Cross in labour with DS3. He was born at 25 weeks. Stoke didn't have a bed for him. He was transferred to Telford at 6 weeks old (31 weeks corrected) but became very unwell and had to be transferred to BCH then BWH for 2 months, a short stint in Stoke then back to Telford for a few more months, then BCH again until discharge. DS2 was a 32 weeker born at Telford and cared for there until discharge.

Is it the Preterm clinic (I'm under Guy Calcott) who have suggested planning to deliver at Stoke? It's not something thats been suggested to me so far and post 28 weeks I'd be perfectely happy to have baby stay at Telford, the boys were both well looked after there.

Oh birth itself in Telford was good too, felt well cared for and listened to etc. Antenatal care was... Not so great though, to put it mildly.

Luhou · 10/07/2023 12:31

@TunnocksTCake yes, absolutely awful piles. Is annusol not safe? I didn't even think to check.

lucya66 · 10/07/2023 12:37

@RG9895 thanks hope you feel better soon too :)

youaremysunshine03 · 10/07/2023 13:01

@RG9895 so glad you asked this as I was about to! My scan was over a week ago and Iโ€™m getting concerned I havenโ€™t heard. Although they did say it can take two weeks and theyโ€™d call if high risk. So Iโ€™m trying to take the view that if it was bad news Iโ€™d have heard by now!

Inmydreams88 · 10/07/2023 13:03

Just had my screening results back. 1 in 10,000 chance of Downโ€™s, Edwards and Pataus. Considering my age, 34 I was quite surprised it was so low.

My PAPP-A was quite high though 1.74 MoM

Is this normal?

TunnocksTCake · 10/07/2023 13:07

@Luhou There are lots of different versions of it but the one I would normally get which works really well (kept behind the counter) I wasnt allowed to have :( Not sure what ingredient it is that is the issue... Pharmacist said it says quite clearly on the box so maybe check which one it is. Probably just a precaution due to not enough research etc...

Gremlin84 · 10/07/2023 13:07

@Inmydreams88 theyd have said in the letter if it was anything to investigate- if they havenโ€™t said thereโ€™s anything to follow up then nothing to worry about.

im not looking pregnant yet but I feel it today. Lower abdomen tightness and bloating. Tired. Feeling that my intestines are being smooshed ๐Ÿ˜‚ and thereโ€™s so much more growing to do with even more smooshing!

RG9895 · 10/07/2023 13:19

@lucya66 thank you! โ˜บ๏ธ

@youaremysunshine03 me too! Hope we get our letters soon ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

@Inmydreams88 congratulations on ur low results! I have no idea what they both are if I am honest, have you tried to google what is normal?

Inmydreams88 · 10/07/2023 14:10

@Gremlin84

Yeah youโ€™re right. Obviously nothing to worry about. Apparently they only care if itโ€™s low.

@RG9895

I did Google, but couldnโ€™t really make sense of it, it seems itโ€™s only a problem if itโ€™s low apparently.

buckingmad · 10/07/2023 15:05

FYI- just got a tens machine from boots for ยฃ33 down from ยฃ46. I didnโ€™t use one last time but have heard loads of good things.

Mummyme87 · 10/07/2023 15:46

@Inmydreams88 my Papp-a was 1.7 with my last baby, itโ€™s totally normal. Thereโ€™s quite a range.
this time itโ€™s 0.8205 ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

urgh, sicky day. I vommed my breakfast crumpets up then vommed my tomato soup after lunch. So now Iโ€™m sitting waiting to see maternal medicine consultant starving

buckingmad · 10/07/2023 16:09

@Mummyme87 joining you on a sicky day. Had to walk past a load of bins earlier and threw up in my mouth ๐Ÿ˜ญ then had to run out of my 4 hour mock exam to be sick.

Sinus infection has gone to my gums. Feeling very fed up!

Kalodin · 10/07/2023 16:22

Also sick day here, I did manage to get back to sleep last night but so so tired all day and cannot keep anything down apart from ice lollies and ice cubes.

Idk if maybe I'm lacking in iron because all I fancy right now is steak with a side of ice cubes (DH has said he will pick up and cook us steaks for dinner tonight once kids in bed).

I feel dreadful. I'm sorry that you both are too @buckingmad and @Mummyme87

Tens Machine was lush with labour with DS3.

CarnelianArtist · 10/07/2023 16:27

@TunnocksTCake I get piles. I thought anosol was safe in pregnancy but i minimise its use. I try standing up whilst working etc standing up where possible exercising and fruit to minimise constipation. It's bloody awful I feel like an old woman.

CarnelianArtist · 10/07/2023 16:29

I'm gutted, I have bv again. And I think this means I can't go swimming with my child on holiday. :(

Anyone had experience of this, I also posted in a wider forum.

buckingmad · 10/07/2023 16:34

@Kalodin i had steak last night and it was amazing. Iโ€™ve been completely off meat until now and tbh until eating it still didnโ€™t really fancy it. I ignored all my veg and potato and just ate the steak. Didnโ€™t even want sauce! Very unlike me.

Mummyme87 · 10/07/2023 17:09

@CarnelianArtist ah no thatโ€™s a pain. Have you started treatment for it?

sorry some of you are feeling poorly too @Kalodin @buckingmad itโ€™s grim is t it. Iโ€™ve cried off and on today, just feel so broken. Donโ€™t remember feeling this broken previously. The joys of being a bit older and having two kids!! Iโ€™ve called off sick tomorrow which I hate doing especially when staffing is so poor, but I just canโ€™t run round a labour ward for 12hrs feeling like this.

buckingmad · 10/07/2023 17:19

@Mummyme87 i imagine itโ€™s really hard to put yourself first when youโ€™re in a caring type role but you really do have to! You will feel better for it and recover quicker so if you need to justify it to yourself think of it like that.

I think sickness wise Iโ€™m actually no different to my first. But itโ€™s a lot harder to cope with mentally when you have another to run around after/not snap at!

Dannic2018 · 10/07/2023 17:40

Girls what does this mean? Iโ€™ve just seen posts about PAPP-A and I never even knew what it was and just looked at my Badger notes. Is mine ok? Iโ€™m 38 thatโ€™s all
thanks x

Due January Part 4! ๐ŸŽ‰
lackingpatience · 10/07/2023 17:47

@Dannic2018 it refers to Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein-A (PAPP-A). If your levels are below 0.4 you are defined as having low levels of PAPP-A which staff will keep an eye on as it may impact babyโ€™s birth weight amongst other things.

Luhou · 10/07/2023 17:50

Sick here today too, fortunately mostly contained to the mornings for me. Piles been driving me mad all day. Ham and cheese omelete my craving for tonight (not something I'd normally have)

Dannic2018 · 10/07/2023 17:53

@lackingpatience thank you
Iโ€™ve not had small babies so worry it was something to do with my placenta ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ but I guess itโ€™s not too low that anyone is concerned, itโ€™s just me who likes to worry about nothing ๐Ÿคฃ

Redpanda21 · 10/07/2023 17:55

@Dannic2018 Mine was 0.89 in my last pregnancy and was normal so yours is normal

lackingpatience · 10/07/2023 17:58

Oh youโ€™re not alone. If thereโ€™s something to get my worry about claws into I shall. Too many symptoms? SOMETHING IS UP. Too little? WHATS WRONG?

There is no winning here
