Anyone know if I can take a decongestant? Iโ€™m 13 weeks so just into second trimester and think my cold has become a sinus infection ๐Ÿซ

lackingpatience · 07/07/2023 22:13

Anything with Pseudoephedrine is not recommended in pregnancy because it can reduce the blood flow in the placenta and to the baby.

You can still use saline solution or nasal lavage.

Mummyme87 · 07/07/2023 22:50

@buckingmad no, decongestants are not recommended in pregnancy

@Onedayatatime24 Iโ€™m super thirsty aswell, although canโ€™t say itโ€™s got me on the toilet 24/7. I did think oh diabetes but I bloody hope not. Iโ€™ve got my first GTT in 2 weeks ๐Ÿ˜–

buckingmad · 08/07/2023 03:27

@Mummyme87 ๐Ÿ˜ญ ok thanks.

Hummusanddipdip · 08/07/2023 07:14

@buckingmad have you tried steaming at all?

Just sitting over a bowl of boiling water and breathing the steam in? From Google I'm assuming that's a safe alternative to taking a stupidly hot shower (which has always been my go to when congested) although I'm not sure about the use of a towel over your head to make a trap for the steam you could put some essential oils into the water to help?

suz2285 · 08/07/2023 07:19

@Mummyme87 that's an early GTT! I had my hba1c done last week just waiting on results... I'm hoping to avoid the GTT until later on ๐Ÿ˜‚

Mummyme87 · 08/07/2023 07:26

@buckingmad yeah head over hot water for steaming may help, saline sprays and paracetamol.

@suz2285 my trust do a GTT at 14weeks if previous GDM and if normal repeat at 28weeks. Had it early last time and was fine, was also fine at 28weeks but I seem to get late onset, something happens at 37/38 weeks and my babies expand massively and amniotic fluid levels jump massively

suz2285 · 08/07/2023 07:29

@Mummyme87 ah yeah that's so early! I'm having the hba1c done because my sister is diabetic but assuming that's ok hopefully I won't have to do the GTT until later on! ๐Ÿคž just waiting for the results to come back ๐Ÿคฃ always waiting for something!

buckingmad · 08/07/2023 07:29

Thanks Iโ€™m going to try the steaming today. Iโ€™m now having constant nosebleeds every time I blow, but need to blow to clear the pressure from my head ๐Ÿ˜ญ I looked on that bumps website and olbas oil is ok apparently so sending DH off to get some and hoping that provides a bit of relief.

I have a feeling the steam is going to make me feel dizzy and nauseous as morning sickness hasnโ€™t quite gone yet but hereโ€™s hoping!

sashastuck · 08/07/2023 08:08

Hope you feel better soon and find something that works @buckingmad !

I feel silly and Iโ€™m definitely nervous to tell DP, but Iโ€™ve just booked a private scan on a whim for today. Iโ€™m so anxious about waiting until 16 weeks for our gender scan (itโ€™s on the 25th), I canโ€™t shake this feeling of โ€œwhat ifโ€. Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s because my friend had a MMC recently so it feels very prominent in my mind. I found somewhere local for ยฃ45 but I also feel like maybe I shouldnโ€™t go? Thatโ€™d be my third private one and I feel like everyone else seems to just get on with it, why do I need to be different? Any tips on how to get through this period from 12-16/20 weeks would be greatly appreciated! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

sashastuck · 08/07/2023 08:13

Ps Iโ€™m very happy to try to be talked out of it - now itโ€™s booked Iโ€™m just thinking to cancel ๐Ÿ˜‚ HELP!

If it puts your mind at ease and stops the worrying then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it in my opinion! Hopefully everything is ok though ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

suz2285 · 08/07/2023 08:39

@sashastuck go! I booked a gender scan for 18 weeks but I'm thinking about going for another at 16 ish just to make sure all ok and see baby again! It's a long time to wait! Just go โค๏ธ

Bims2019 · 08/07/2023 08:51

@sashastuck I agree, if it'll put your mind at ease then go for it ๐Ÿ˜Š I'm very tempted to do the same, my 20 week scan isn't until 21st August which just feels like an eternity!

Thanks to whoever suggested loveleggings for maternity leggings, I bought some and they are great! Arrived really quickly as well. Typically the day after they started their summer sale, so just giving a heads up in case anyone wants 25% off! I'm tempted to buy more ๐Ÿ˜‚

sashastuck · 08/07/2023 08:56

@lilluce95 @suz2285 @Bims2019 thank you so much. โค๏ธโค๏ธ Hearing it from other pregnant women helps. You think youโ€™ll stop stressing at 12 weeks but nope!

buckingmad · 08/07/2023 09:10

Morning sickness and a sinus infection are the combo from hell. I just threw up mucous ๐Ÿคข so so gross. Iโ€™m in full self pity mode today.

I think Iโ€™m going to book a gender scan for 16 weeks which is about 2.5 weeks away. My stomach is so sore from all the throwing up and blowing my nose and I just want to see baby wriggling around ok.

Ttcdcno1 · 08/07/2023 09:17

Iโ€™m wanting to book a gender scan for 2 weeks away but DH wants to wait til the bloods come back from the screening (so I have secretly emailed anyway๐Ÿ˜‚) 24th august for the 20 week is far too long to wait!!

lilluce95 · 08/07/2023 09:24

That's ok!! I was tempted to get a private one this weekend, but my 12week scan is only on Wednesday so just want these next few days to fly by ๐Ÿคฃ

I will definitely get a private one between 12 and 20 weeks though I wouldn't be able to wait! Xx

lilluce95 · 08/07/2023 09:24

@Bims2019 oooh I've heard great things about love leggings, did you buy the maternity ones or the regular ones? Not sure whether to size up or not? X

Bims2019 · 08/07/2023 09:30

@lilluce95 I've not worn properly yet as it's been too hot ๐Ÿ˜‚ but they seem to be good quality! I bought the maternity ones in my usual size and it feels like there's plenty of room to grow, especially in the lighter summer ones. The reviews did say to size up so if you're between sizes maybe go for the larger ones? They have tall and petite options too!

buckingmad · 08/07/2023 09:36

@lilluce95 i had them for my last pregnancy and going to treat myself to a new pair for this one. I bought my usual size but in maternity and wore them right up to giving birth! pretty sure I wore them to the hospital. Plus then great for the few weeks after, specially for post c section as they came up way over my scar and cause theyโ€™re quite tight (in a good way) it made my scar feel supported.

lilluce95 · 08/07/2023 10:06

@Bims2019 @buckingmad oooh thank you both that's good to know! I've heard they're quite thick and not see through at all which is what's tempting me haha ๐Ÿ˜‚

Mummyme87 · 08/07/2023 10:22

Iโ€™m not booking any private scans, just holding out. Got anomaly at 21+6 on 8th sept which I donโ€™t feel is that far away, summer holidays will fly over.

having a very emotional/tired/nausea day. Itโ€™s my eldest party this afternoon and sisters hen weekend next week that Iโ€™ve org aided, I forgot to book my eldests cycling session at the velodrome this morning.. luckily there was space. Just feeling overwhelmed with life at the moment when I just want to lie down and rest

Mummyme87 · 08/07/2023 10:22

Organised**

Flossiepot · 08/07/2023 10:58
