Reduced movement again 2 days later

I'm 37+2, I was at the MAU only 2 days ago for reduced movement as I had hardly felt baby move all day and of course once I was there and on the CTG she was moving like crazy but all day she'd hardly moved. The midwife said they'd been really busy with reduced movement cases that day and it was likely because of the heat.

I was told because it was my 3rd visit for reduced movement (I went twice at around 25 weeks) then I'd be referred for a scan but as I only had a growth scan last week I couldn't have the scan for another week. I also got a snippy comment that they wouldn't be bringing my c section any sooner (I don't want that!)

2 days later and I feel like the movements have reduced once again, she's still moving and I've had a few kicks this morning it just feels much less frequent and less strong, she usually kicks loads after my dinner and keeps me up from falling asleep at night because of all the movement but not last night

I am going to be ringing as soon as DD is awake (currently asleep on me) but I just wanted someone to talk to as I'm worried they'll think I'm taking the mick and she'll start moving loads as soon as I'm there

Please don’t worry what they’ll think if you go back. Just go back. You and your baby matter and whether there’s lots of women turning up with reduced movement at the moment isn’t your concern. Whether the heat is a factor is also not your concern. You still need checking and even if you go every day because you are noticing a change, so be it. I hope everything is fine. Don’t be put off going.

sugaryouth1 · 16/06/2023 06:36

I was in the hospital over 16 times for reduced movement and my little girl came early as the placenta was failing and it was picked up at one of those visits

No matter how often you go it doesn't matter. It's best to go often and nothing be wrong.

Midwives would rather see you and nothing be wrong

MedievalMadness · 16/06/2023 06:38

Oh and if baby starts moving normally when you get there don’t worry. You aren’t psychic and would have had no idea when you set off, that your baby was going to spring into action.

rebecca100 · 16/06/2023 06:42

Please, please go and get checked as soon as possible. It doesn't matter how often you call or if baby becomes active once you're there. You're not wasting anyone's time or taking the mick. Ignore any negative comments the midwives make, I went in a few times for reduced movement, because that's what we're told to do. I had one not so great midwife and made me feel rubbish. I knew I was doing the right thing by being there and just kept reminding myself that. Best of luck, hope all goes well x

Thanks all. I struggle with anxiety so needed a kick up the bum! DD should be awake in about 20/30 mins then I'll ring

Please ring now, even if it means waking you're daughter up. I was always advised not to wait for anything to call if I had concerns x

100% this

hattyhathat · 16/06/2023 06:51

You need to call them now and go in. Don't wait.

gs555 · 16/06/2023 06:55

hi op. I used to feel the same. Was worried they might think im taking the mick. I went in 12 times for reduced movement in the end they noticed placenta was failing and I had to get induced!

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 07:09

Got to go in at 9

Well done OP - you've done the right thing. Better to be checked. Ignore snippy comments, it's your baby you're protecting x

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 09:15

Here and have been on the machine for 25 mins so far and no movement, midwife said her heart rate is great but she's not happy about the movement.

Her heart rate did go up to 170 and the alarm went off but it's back down again now

Didn't realise there was a strike on today so it'll be a bit of a wait to be reviewed by a doctor as there aren't any!

One small kick after an hour on the machine and I also can't stop being sick (although that's probably the heat) so waiting for the doctor now

Hope everything's okay for you! Definitely did the right thing going in!

cruciverbalista · 16/06/2023 10:37

Hope you and bab are okay @scrantonelectriccity

Wallabyone · 16/06/2023 10:39

Hope you're both ok x

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 10:41

Thank you, I'm really glad I came in and just have a feeling that something isn't quite right. Still waiting for the doctor, will keep you updated

I used to go in all the time with my daughter, in the end I had to go in every morning to sit on the monitor until I was induced early. She ended up being on the smaller side at 6lbs and there was a lot of fluid paired with an anterior placenta.

How stressful for you!

This baby is measuring massive compared to my daughter, 97th centile overall and her tummy is off the chart

The midwife just said the doctor will probably do a scan today so hoping that'll provide some reassurance although even if the scan looks fine I'm still not comfortable leaving things as they are

OP posts:
fyn · 16/06/2023 11:11

@scrantonelectriccity she measured massive on the scans. 99th percentile. I had all sorts of diabetes testing and further scans, the scans just are so unreliable!

MedievalMadness · 16/06/2023 11:20

You’re in the right place OP. I’m so glad you went in and they’re monitoring you and your baby closely. If you are not happy with the plan after the scan don’t be scared to speak up. Hope you don’t have too long a wait for the doctor.

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 11:31

I'm being admitted for steroids and fluids and c-section brought forward to tomorrow afternoon or Sunday

OP posts:
Luz192 · 16/06/2023 11:34

hope all goes well! Was the doctor not happy with the movements? What will the steroids and fluids do in the meantime?

Panda8383 · 16/06/2023 11:42

Hope everything goes well :-) x

Glitterb · 16/06/2023 11:43

thank goodness you went in when you did! Hope all goes well for you with the c section!
