Reduced movement again 2 days later

I'm 37+2, I was at the MAU only 2 days ago for reduced movement as I had hardly felt baby move all day and of course once I was there and on the CTG she was moving like crazy but all day she'd hardly moved. The midwife said they'd been really busy with reduced movement cases that day and it was likely because of the heat.

I was told because it was my 3rd visit for reduced movement (I went twice at around 25 weeks) then I'd be referred for a scan but as I only had a growth scan last week I couldn't have the scan for another week. I also got a snippy comment that they wouldn't be bringing my c section any sooner (I don't want that!)

2 days later and I feel like the movements have reduced once again, she's still moving and I've had a few kicks this morning it just feels much less frequent and less strong, she usually kicks loads after my dinner and keeps me up from falling asleep at night because of all the movement but not last night

I am going to be ringing as soon as DD is awake (currently asleep on me) but I just wanted someone to talk to as I'm worried they'll think I'm taking the mick and she'll start moving loads as soon as I'm there

You are in no way moaning, please keep chatting on here, it is so stressful and I remember how alone when I had to stay in for 10 days with my son in NICU. I am so glad they have put you with other NICU mums, I did get a room to myself as I had a very difficult forceps delivery and had an infection myself, but hearing other babies crying was difficult. It is very hard, you are not well and could do with a bit of extra care yourself.

Drink and eat as much as you can and I do hope they can give you more positive news and a firmer diagnosis tomorrow.

Thinking of you op

Thinking of you OP. Sounds so difficult and the not knowing much is really hard. Hopefully tomorrow there will be more staff around (there are always fewer staff around on the weekends) and you can speak to the doctors to find out a bit more. Don’t be afraid to ask to talk to the doctors and ask what the tests have shown and what the plan is. I’m sorry it’s so stressful at the moment. Does your baby girl have a name yet?

colourPink · 18/06/2023 21:03

@scrantonelectriccity just read your thread. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. So glad you trusted your gut!

I went to DAU yesterday for RFM at 25 weeks and I felt like such an idiot when they said he was fine. Reading your post has taken away ALL feelings like that. We know our babies and it's best to be safe than sorry.

Wishing your baby a speedy recovery and I'm sure you'll be home before you know it ♥️

I agree. When my newborn was in hospital, it became clear that it was only when I pushed for answers that we got any answers. Every time I asked questions it was like the doctors were thinking it through a bit more. I kept notes in my phone of all conversations and it really helped.

Thanks everyone I'm not really any clearer on what's going on.

Overnight they put her oxygen back up again but they've reduced it and she's been okay.

Her infection markers have increased slightly since yesterday which they said can be normal after birth anyway and can also be not normal so they'll keep an eye. Her chest x ray showed some spots of fluid in the lungs which they also said can be normal after a c section but they need to watch and wait. Her urine output is very high and when I asked what that meant they said they'll just keep an eye on it. She's had some strange red marks appear on her back which again they said they'd keep an eye on.

It just feels all very uncertain and nobody is being particularly positive, I'm not really sure what's going on and yesterday there was talk of her being discharged to my ward tomorrow but today they said that definitely won't be happening and she'll be on CPAP for another few days at least.

I just want to hold her properly without alarms going off constantly and I want to be able to feed her too.

Sorry for the moan it's just all a bit difficult this afternoon

My baby wasn’t in a unit away from me so I can’t empathise with that, but she was born after a section with suspected meningitis and had difficulty feeding for the first couple of days, she also had a lumbar puncture. It was so overwhelming and I had moments when I felt like I was at the end of of my tether, but I kept finding a bit more tether and bit by bit, things began to improve and on day 12, we went home. It was the hardest experience of my life and I remember it well.

You aren’t moaning, you just need to vent and let it out. Luckily for you that we’re more than happy for you to do that here x

I really should be working just now but just came across your thread OP. So sorry to hear what you've been going through but glad your DD is here and she's making progress.
Probably the last thing on your mind but I'm always nosey about these things, have you decided on a name for her?

Careerdilemma · 20/06/2023 12:36

I'm so pleased to hear she's doing well. Have they been able to explain what led to the reduced movements?

mnabq · 20/06/2023 20:45

So glad to hear she is doing well OP

CheekyHusky · 21/06/2023 21:56

I’ve been thinking of you today, really hope things are going well

PinkButtercups · 22/06/2023 14:35

Hope you and baby are well OP and you're home or one step closer to going home x

scrantonelectriccity · 24/06/2023 08:52

Thanks for everyone's lovely messages.

DD is a week old today and doing well, she lost a lot of weight and has been struggling to feed but had her tongue tie cut on Thursday and been feeding well since so hopefully todays weigh in will be positive and we won't be sent back in (the midwife said if she hasn't gained enough by today we have to be readmitted).

I'm really anxious all the time watching her breathing but hoping this will pass
