Reduced movement again 2 days later

I'm 37+2, I was at the MAU only 2 days ago for reduced movement as I had hardly felt baby move all day and of course once I was there and on the CTG she was moving like crazy but all day she'd hardly moved. The midwife said they'd been really busy with reduced movement cases that day and it was likely because of the heat.

I was told because it was my 3rd visit for reduced movement (I went twice at around 25 weeks) then I'd be referred for a scan but as I only had a growth scan last week I couldn't have the scan for another week. I also got a snippy comment that they wouldn't be bringing my c section any sooner (I don't want that!)

2 days later and I feel like the movements have reduced once again, she's still moving and I've had a few kicks this morning it just feels much less frequent and less strong, she usually kicks loads after my dinner and keeps me up from falling asleep at night because of all the movement but not last night

I am going to be ringing as soon as DD is awake (currently asleep on me) but I just wanted someone to talk to as I'm worried they'll think I'm taking the mick and she'll start moving loads as soon as I'm there

hope all goes well! Was the doctor not happy with the movements? What will the steroids and fluids do in the meantime?

The fluids are because I can't keep anything down and the steroids are for the baby's lungs, apparently it's standard if they're planning to do a c section before 38 weeks.

The doctor said she didn't think anything needed to be done urgently today so she's happy to wait til tomorrow to give the steroids a chance to work so that's good news and they'll do regular CTGs in the mean time

I've been on the ward for 2 hours now and still felt no movement :( been waiting 2 hours for them to come and do the CTG but they're so short staffed and I'm getting really worried

Please advocate for yourself now. Don't be embarrassed for finding a member of staff now and telling them you are now very concerned and you haven't felt your baby move for 2 hours.

It's been 5 hours of no movement in total - I've rung the buzzer and told the midwife assistant but she hasn't come back since

Go to the desk/station and say "I haven't felt my baby move for 5 hours now, I need urgent monitoring/ultrasound check" what if my baby is dying?

I've been waiting 3 hours for some fluids now. Just managed to get an assistant and she is going to go and ask the midwife again

So stressful. Keep asking them to check and let them know how concerned you are.

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 15:40

On the CTG now - had two small movements and that's it

Midwife said she isn't concerned and thinks it's just the heat

What other tests have you had @scrantonelectriccity? Have they dipped your urine and done bloods?

Not had any bloods but urine shows protein, blood and lukocytes (can't spell it!)

@scrantonelectriccity are you still vomiting?
What's your BP?
Have you asked them about pre-eclampsia?

GoneAway227 · 16/06/2023 15:54

Do you have any swelling?

SoVerySophie · 16/06/2023 15:57

Keep asking and asking. Insist on speaking to a Dr again. Your instincts should always be followed.

Imperialleathers · 16/06/2023 16:01

Hope all is okay OP. Keep telling them how concerned you are

Not vomiting anymore as been given an anti sickness and no swelling and blood pressure was fine.

One midwife said CTG is fine and picking up movement (I've not felt any) but then another midwife came to check it and said she isn't happy with the amount of accelerations? Not sure what that is but there's only been one and said she's being lazy because of the heat

The problem is there are only 2 consultants and both of them are in theatre and both are covering all the doctors because of the strikes, a lady next to me has been waiting all day to speak to one

I'm thinking of you @scrantonelectriccity. What a long day but you are in the right place and I hope you can get some answers and feel better soon 🫶🏼

TimeToRecover · 16/06/2023 16:07

Thinking of you

scrantonelectriccity · 16/06/2023 16:38

Apparently accelerations are fine now and I've been taken off the monitor. I've felt a couple of small kicks but nothing compared to usual movement and not sure that it being hot would make her move less, the midwives are certain that's why though

The plan is if movement picks up and I’m
happy then I can go home tomorrow, if it doesn’t pick up then nil by mouth from 2am and c section tomorrow afternoon once I’ve had more steroids. They'll do another CTG at about midnight.

Feeling some movement but hardly any compared to usual

Really hope you and baby are ok. Glad they're keeping you in! Keep voicing your concerns you know your baby. I went in about 20 times, no Dr or midwife listened to me my baby was born with sepsis. I just knew something wasn't right x

MedievalMadness · 16/06/2023 18:32

Scranton. It's good they have a plan. Are you ok with it? If they do say you can go home would you feel ok to do that? If not, don't be afraid to say what you want/need. If they do a scan at midnight it seems a bit daft to discharge you in the small hours. It sounds like they're monitoring you properly which is reassuring but stick up for whatever your instincts are telling you if you need to .

Thank you. I keep telling them this just isn't normal movement for me, they keep trying to say it's the heat and because I'm not drinking enough but I've had so much water today, I've been walking around loads and eating, poking my bump and just nothing or a really light kick which isn't normal for her and minimal movement for 3 days isn't right

Her heart rate is fine now so that's reassuring but there could still be something wrong even if heart rate is ok couldn't there?

They said it depends how I feel tomorrow so I think it's up to me, if her movement doesn't pick up overnight (she's usually most active around 8/9pm so I'll see then) then I'll definitely go for the c section tomorrow

If movement does increase I'll think about it as I'm still worried about 3 days of reduced movement but don't want to bring her out unnecessarily and slightly early because of my own anxiety

Remember baby is fully grown now and would likely suffer no complications if she comes now. Please keep asking if you aren’t sure or happy. I’m a nurse, I’d hate for anything to happen to a patient because I seemed busy
