@RaspberryTime I’m really bad with blood tests too. I always ask to lie down or tilt the chair back as that seems to help (and make sure I’ve had something to eat and drink recently).

I once had to get a blood test at a phlebotomy department in hospital and they had multiple chairs in the room facing each other. As soon as I saw them taking blood from a man opposite as I sat down I knew I was going to start feeling faint. I’ve never actually passed out but I think I would have if I’d tried to stand up.

I’m not looking forward to my booking appointment on Friday!

Niam4 · 28/05/2023 15:18

@Mushroo thank you I may try that too as I have always been a coffee drinker and have just limited caffeine but if it will assist in this ways that’s where I will use my mgs. It’s really tough I didn’t think things could change so drastically in such a short space of time 😅

Lightningrain · 28/05/2023 15:19

@Niam4 yes, I’ve been really bloated too but I’d put it down to the progesterone that I’m taking. My jeans are really uncomfortable at the moment which I don’t think will be helped by the fact that all I want to eat is salty carbs.

I’m making a conscious effort to have salad, fruit and veg every day even if I don’t feel like it but I’m really struggling to drink water as I just don’t feel thirsty.

Mushroo · 28/05/2023 15:20

@Niam4 same! People always say you don’t miss coffee but I remember thinking ‘ha, that won’t be me’ because I was such a caffeine addict!
Crazy what hormones can do.

RaspberryTime · 28/05/2023 15:38

@Lightningrain Oh you poor thing, I don’t think I’d have coped with seeing that either!

Sending you good vibes for Friday 😊

sashastuck · 28/05/2023 15:58

@Niam4 @Mushroo yes to the bloating and constipation! I’ve also heard that kiwi is really good too. Going to have one right now actually!

So I’ve been looking at old wives tales regarding baby’s sex today… I know that they’re only a bit of fun but anyone with children already, did you find any truth in them? All things so far point to a boy for me but then I did the Chinese/Mayan prediction on my mum’s 2 births (my sister and I) and it says we should both be boys 😂

OP posts:
Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 28/05/2023 16:30

@sashastuck I was sure ds was a boy, just a feeling, and one of my friends did that "how is baby carrying" picture things and he was all front, from the back and from direct head on I didn't look pregnant and apparently if you carry all front they tend to be a boy (I told my best friend she was having a boy because she carried the same I did, but scan said girl, low and behold, she now has a gorgeous little boy)

I haven't looked into this one, I didn't think any old wives tales go as early as 6 weeks? I don't mind, but I'd like a girl, however I think it'll be another boy (and this is totally illogical reasoning) I'm the eldest of 2, dh is the youngest of 2 with a sister, so for both family's there were girls born first, ds is the first born so I suspect he will have a younger brother (irrational I know)

ItsAJourney · 28/05/2023 16:43

@FirstT1meMum @Ttcdcno1 Congratulations on your scans! How lovely to hear little hearts beating strongly!

@RaspberryTime Ask a silly question but what is a booking appointment? This is all so new to me so wondering what to expect.

How’s everyone doing with anxiety and feeling worried ALL the time? Today is the first day after my positive tests and I’m second guessing everything. In the space of 5 minutes I’ve gone from worrying that I don’t have any symptoms today to worrying about my stomach feeling ‘funny’ like when a period is coming. Checking I’ve not bled every time I go to the loo. How on earth can I stay calm? I just feel like there is so much pressure on me to ensure this fragile little thing survives and grows, and that I want it so desperately to be okay, that I don’t know how to think about anything else. Does anyone know if having baths is okay? I’m so terrified to do anything that could cause harm this early on but I think it might help relax me.

Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 17:03

@ItsAJourney booking visit is first visit with midwife. They will go through your past medical and family history to see if there are any identifiable risks with your pregnancy that may need a doctor input etc, they will take a urine sample to test for urine infection and also they request “booking bloods” which check for various infections/inherited blood types etc in pregnancy.
re: baths- you can have a bath but advice in first trimester is to avoid very hot ones that may rise your core body temp for a prolonged time as this increases the risk of neural tube defects like spina bifida. Basically I think so long as water is below 35 degrees it’s dine. I have baths almost daily and did in first pregnancy but just stay in them under 15 mins and make sure it isn’t hot enough to have me sweating after 👍🏻

Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 17:06

Ps @ItsAJourney it’s completely natural to feel the pressure of doing everything “right” in pregnancy. Just know that they very fact you’re asking these questions about safety of things in pregnancy means you are doing the very best 😊. I was the same with baby number one, just remember you are a human being too so look after yourself lots too xxx

ItsAJourney · 28/05/2023 18:05

@Eirlys1986 Ah, thank you, that’s really good to know! I think I’m going to avoid taking a bath for now as I think I’ll only end up worrying about it more again after! Booking appointment sounds good - thanks for confirming! And thank you for your kind words - it’s great to be able reach out and get support from others going through the same thing/been through it before. It really does help!

Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 18:16

@ItsAJourney you’re welcome 😊, I’m sure we will all be here for each other in one way or another at some point over next few months and beyond! Hope you find something else you like to do to help relax this evening 👍🏻

Lululumpkin · 28/05/2023 18:35

@Niam4 @Mushroo - for constipation if it's really bad I'd recommend getting some glycerol suppositories. Absolute game changer (if a little unpleasant!) - they basically pull water into your bowel and make you suddenly need to go. I have used them pre pregnancy and now relying on them from time to time!

lackingpatience · 28/05/2023 18:42

6w today and my god the fatigue. The last week I’ve been going to bed earlier and going to sleep earlier but today I’ve barely made it off the sofa/bed and have had two naps.

I hope it’s a today only/today very bad thing because you can’t function as a human feeling like this all the time!

Luhou · 28/05/2023 18:45

Hi @lackingpatience I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and feel like I've not seen my husband all week as I've been asleep by 8pm most nights!

Desperately trying to stay awake a bit later tonight to enjoy a take away and a film together.

Nausea has kicked in the morning, and (TMI alert!) Also piles.

Luhou · 28/05/2023 18:46

@lackingpatience I had my first nap at 9am this morning after waking up at 6. You're not alone there.

Potty training my todler and it's felt like a long long day.

lackingpatience · 28/05/2023 18:51

Thanks @Luhou it did strike me today that if life goes the way you want I’d feel like this again with a toddler. I have no idea how you cope!

Luhou · 28/05/2023 18:59

Yeah, it is tricky as for obvious reasons we haven't told her yet. She keeps wanting me to play and I just have no energy. fortunately DH has been off for bank hol weekend.

I had my first in lockdown so I was furloughed and could nap all day. This is a bit of a shock to the system, but having done the baby years I'm a member in the lack of sleep club and your body does adapt.

HopeAndStrength · 28/05/2023 18:59

Hi everyone, hope it's OK if I join you.
I'm just 5 weeks along, following a MC in March.
Feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves to be starting again.
I totally understand what you said about questioning every twinge and cramp @ItsAJourney

suz2285 · 28/05/2023 19:03

I'm glad everyone is napping heaps I thought I was just being lazy! I dragged myself out for a walk this afternoon but it felt like a struggle, I feel so unfit and massive already, but it's just bloating! I think I've been eating less.... and then I've been forcing myself to try and drink loads even tho I don't feel really thirsty, but im still dehydrated! (Pee is darker than it usually is)

Husband has a really busy new job and is working 24-7 at the mo so luckily he is going to bed early too 😂 bonus!

Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 19:04

@lackingpatience never fear! The fatigue and nausea will pass. It’s not a promise but most people feel pretty good for second trimester. It is brutal with a toddler tbh, but the fact we are all here trying to have another despite that is hopefully testament to how awesome having a little loon in your life truely is 👍🏻

RaspberryTime · 28/05/2023 19:13

@ItsAJourney Have you self referred for your maternity care yet? You’ll be given a booking appointment shortly after you do that if so ☺️ Also, I hear you about your anxiety - I ended up going to the EPU after getting stomach cramps at 5weeks +6 and they did an early reassurance scan for me which has helped my worries to some extent.

Mushroo · 28/05/2023 19:13

I’m now starting to worry I’ve been having too much sugar. I read online you shouldn’t have more than 6 grams a day and I’m definitely over that.

Ive had no food aversions or nausea but I’ve been starving. I also seem to have replaced alcohol with sugary drinks. I’m going to try and cut down next week but tbh food is all the fun I’ve got going on!

Im eating a good amount of fruit and veg. Should I be worried about the sugar? Today I’ve had:

  • Weetabix with fruit
  • Chinese dumplings with a cabbage side slaw
  • A cronut (obviously bad I know)
  • pad Thai for dinner (prawns with loads of stir fry veg)
  • chocolate (1 large square)

Written down it’s not awful but I’m having one ‘bad’ thing a day I think… eg yesterday was a magnum then a smattering of chocolate / biscuits.

Terrified I’m going to get gestational diabetes so if it is too much crap please be honest, I can handle it!

sashastuck · 28/05/2023 19:50

@Mushroo to me, what you’ve had today doesn’t sound bad at ALL! I’ve also been more partial to a fizzy drink since being pregnant. I have an ice lolly or dessert after dinner every day.
I’m feeling the same way as you but regarding salt. All I think about is cheese and crisps and instant noodles!

@suz2285 I went for a walk that felt like a struggle as well :( really need to stay active and my friend who knows I’m pregnant keeps politely mentioning that I should go on walks etc, I’m feeling so incredibly lazy.

OP posts:
Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 20:06

@sashastuck I second the salt obsession…unfortunately also the sugar too 🙈.
@Mushroo I don’t think what you’ve written sounds any different to what I’m having at present (I’m probably having worse tbh!). However; with first pregnancy I did get a bit over partial to the old cake etc and my dad was diabetic. At my 20 week scan they noted baby’s abdomen was on 96th centile so said I may have gestational diabetes and had to go for a test (which I was going for anyway due to FH). Scared the crapola out of me so I went on a 6-7 week or so very low carb and low sugar diet, repeat abdo USS came back entirely normal so I suspect first scan was just an anomaly and I didn’t end up having gestational diabetes. I do credit that good eating period with really curbing my pregnancy weight gain and I was back to below starting weight literally within 2 weeks of baby being born (I suspect due to pure adrenaline and breast feeding 😂)
