@sashastuck @Eirlys1986 thank you - I think I’m probably eating fairly normally but the internet has made me feel I should be eating like a health guru. All the articles are like ‘don’t worry about the odd biscuit, but sugar is the devil 😂’.

My friend is also 20 weeks and has just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes so the risk feels a bit more real / close to home.

Pre- pregnancy I was a healthy weight but I feel huge! I’m hoping once I hit the second trimester I’ll feel a bit more energised to exercise, I find I eat better if I’ve done a workout!

Eirlys1986 · 28/05/2023 20:38

Try not to worry too much @Mushroo , generally if you aren’t overweight to begin with, not over 35 and no FH diabetes you are fairly low risk for GD regardless of diet. Obviously there is always the exception to the rule but sounds like you are giving your little friend all the lovely fuel they need.

Mushroo · 28/05/2023 20:38

@Eirlys1986 thank you :)

PartRadish · 28/05/2023 20:48

I'm about to eat a Pot Noodle for tea 😳

I've driven myself to distraction obsessing about my crap food choices the last few days, I'm definitely not getting enough fruit or veg because absolutely none of it is appealing to me at the moment. I feel really terrible about it but I'm taking my Vitimins religiously and I guess any food is better than no food 🙈

ThomasinaLivesHere · 28/05/2023 21:08

I’ve not yet gotten around to posting on this new thread as I’ve been avoiding thinking about my pregnancy as I thought it wasn’t going to be good news. I had brown blood/discharge for about a week straight. At one point I had sharp pains and thought I was going to miscarry then but then it stopped about 4 days ago. I had a private scan today and everything looks good. Single pregnancy (so glad not twins!) with heart beat detected. Measures 9w3 so moves due date from 1 Jan to 27 Dec.

On the issue of diet I’ve had some terrible days where I’ve ate so much junk but lately I’ve started to get somewhat better but could improve. I always have plans to have an amazing diet but never quite happens.

lucya66 · 28/05/2023 21:18

@ThomasinaLivesHere glad to hear your scan went well :)

CatLadyH · 28/05/2023 22:00

Hi new to this thread - positive test yesterday 16 days DPO think I’m about 3.5/4 weeks ☺️ still processing it all!

PartRadish · 29/05/2023 06:10

Congratulations @CatLadyH

Felt a bit guilty about the Pot Noodle plan after posting here so I had a tin of vegetable soup and an Innocent smoothie instead. Still not amazing I know but slightly better 😅

ThomasinaLivesHere · 29/05/2023 06:16

@PartRadish soup and smoothie sounds good!

@lucya66 Thank you 😊

@CatLadyH Congratulations 🥳

Hey Ladies, haven't been on in a while just thought I would hop on and give an update.

Firstly I can relate to the foods you are all talking about, it's soo hard when u don't want anything good I'm trying to have a good breakfast and a smoothie everyday been not hungry for lunch and dinner I just don't know what I want. I am eating but not the best choices.

So I'm 9weeks plus 3, my symptoms have been no appetite, aversions to some foods, I had cramps at 4-6 weeks they have subsided, a bit tired at night but nothing crazy. My Scan is in 3 weeks....counting down the days 🥰

My biggest struggle is at the end of the day or mid day I'm opening my jeans because they feel tight, trying to hold off buying any clothes until I'm at least past 12 weeks. It's fine at home because I can wear dresses and active wear mostly, it's mostly when I'm in work.

Hope everyone else is well, exciting times ahead xx

suz2285 · 29/05/2023 07:17

@Mushroo I wouldn't panic about eating - from what I hear about GD it's nothing to do with diet and all to do with your body's reaction to all the hormones! Mostly in first trimester they say to eat whatever you can so just do that, there's enough to stress about without counting sugar grams!

I'm overweight with type 1 and 2 diabetes in our family history so I'm sure I'll be tested a few times, but I've never had an issue with my sugars, be interesting to see if I do during pregnancy

Exercise is also recommended for the blood sugar but then it's hard to do much when you want to nap all day 😂

Eirlys1986 · 29/05/2023 07:21

Congratulations @CatLadyH 🎉.
@drjodiyogi Im also still breastfeeding my 19 month old (well I was until the hand foot and mouth jiggered that up 2 days ago!) and boobs not sore. They’ve definitely gotten bigger but that may just be because toddler isn’t visiting the booby bar with all these ulcers in his mouth.

@drjodiyogi lots of older toddlers continue to BF, my niece is 3.5 and still feeds before bed and sometimes in morning. I did think mine may self wean to a degree but has just decided to have a feed this morning so hopefully he’s feeling better from the HFM now. I think I may try to maintain the not feeding overnight now since we’ve started by accident whilst he was ill.

Muriel84 · 29/05/2023 08:31

@drjodiyogi ah my son was born close to your DS in feb 21. I’m 38 now but fairly average mum age where I live! I’m 5+5 now so very early and have been spotting at intervals so just seeing how it goes. Third scan booked in 8 days. Not that I’m counting… I don’t really have FB just for a few groups and marketplace but happy to try to join a group.

@Eirlys1986 hows bub? X

Muriel84 · 29/05/2023 08:32

@drjodiyogi apologies meant your DD not DS. Half asleep!

sashastuck · 29/05/2023 08:36

Random question: has anyone’s boobs NOT got bigger? Or those who have been pregnant before, when/did they start to grow? My Flo app keeps mentioning breast changes and other than the tenderness, mine are definitely the same. Is that normal at 8 weeks?

Eirlys1986 · 29/05/2023 09:21

@Muriel84 he’s a lot better thanks, currently happily babbling away at Olaf watching frozen for the zillionth time this bank holiday weekend(it has literally saved my bacon). I also have not used face book for a very long time but would be happy to join a group or WhatsApp 👍🏻

ItsAJourney · 29/05/2023 09:33

Hi @HopeAndStrength , sounds like we’re on the same timeframe, I think. It’s comforting that we’ve all got the same worries isn’t it, even though I don’t want anyone else to worry, if you know what I mean. This morning’s worry is that I don’t feel bloated anymore. Like I’ve woken up and my stomach just feels flat so now trying to stay calm about that!

Mummyme87 · 29/05/2023 09:38

@sashastuck mine arent bigger yet, have been sore and tender since 5dpo but not bigger. First baby I remember at 16weeks buying new bras as mine didn’t fit. But second time I can’t remember.

I have Glucose tolerance tests in pregnancy as bmi is over 30, second time had one at 12weeks and 28weeks due to likely late onset GDM with first baby (he was 4.7kg, I had increased fluid). This time I’ll definitely have an early GTT as I over 30, age and again we think I had late onset GDM second baby as well… off the scale fluid, 4.5kg at 39+wks. Hope I don’t get it this time, at least not early. I’ve tested my blood sugars outside of pregnancy and they’ve been fine so hopeful I don’t have type 2. But that is a stress for me, alongside some other issues. Trying to reduce carbs to keep blood sugars at bay but that’s literally what I’m craving 😬🫤

ItsAJourney · 29/05/2023 09:48

@RaspberryTime So pleased that helped ease the anxiety! I’m hoping my clinic will call tomorrow to confirm a date for our viability scan. I think they usually do it around 7 weeks, maybe a little earlier, so hopefully speaking to them will help. I haven’t self referred for maternity care yet. Assume I have to phone the GP’s and because I’ve only found out over this bank holiday, I’m waiting for them to open tomorrow. I will also wait for the clinic to call me too as I’m not sure if there’s anything different I need to do as I’m still under their currently and presume I will stay so until the viability scan.

RaspberryTime · 29/05/2023 10:01

In my area, we have to self refer via an online form, I think everywhere is different from what I gather though. Take it easy this bank holiday and make the most of some downtime x
