Is anyone else really really bloated and in pain with it? I'm 9 weeks today - I had to ask to work from home on Tuesday because I was doubled over in pain, which felt like trapped wind. Nothing I did eased it. Yesterday and today the pain has subsided a lot but is still there, especially when I get up and move around, and today I look about the size I did when I was 16 weeks in my last pregnancy!!

Naturally I worried myself stupid on Tuesday with googling. I wasn't going to book a private scan but have caved and booked one for tomorrow.

Redpanda21 · 01/06/2023 12:53

I’m the same as @youaremysunshine03, waiting until 12 weeks as in line for promotion just sorting out finer details. I’ve been passed over so many times so not letting this one go.

I work from home so easier to hide symptoms etc

TunnocksTCake · 01/06/2023 12:59

I'm definitely waiting as long as possible to tell mine, it is a very small company with just me and the boss in the office (and other contractors externally) and we had a big to do in March because I had had too much time off for DD illnesses (when boss specifically requested i do not come in if anything contagious in household!!) and I can see her being funny with me after that. Think I need a new job but will get round to that at a later date!! Not sure how long I can hide it for at this rate though.
Thanks @cossie13 hope yours goes well tomorrow too.

cossie13 · 01/06/2023 13:07

I hate when work places get funny about having time off with illness but also say "don't come in because we don't want your bugs!", like what's the point?? Hopefully they're not too funny with you!

And thank you, didn't think I'd be too nervous until tomorrow but I'm absolutely terrified

lucya66 · 01/06/2023 13:18

@PumpkinTruffles I’ve had bloat and burps but it sounds like your pain is really bad. Have you read into vitamin b6? That could help potentially. Or peppermint tea?

unfortuantle for me it’s just farting and burping a lot that releases it.

Lilothblos · 01/06/2023 13:28

@cossie13 good luck for your early scan tomorrow, I have my first early scan booked for tomorrow too!

Luhou · 01/06/2023 13:40

Hi ladies,

Can I ask who it was you called to make your booking appointment ?

There is no info avaliable online.

I have called the community midwife number several times over the last few days and nobody has answered.

I just rang my GP to see if they could point me in the right direction and they had no idea what I even meant or was asking. Just kept telling me unless I had concerns I didn't need to see a doctor.

cossie13 · 01/06/2023 13:57

@Lilothblos Oh awesome, good luck for your scan too!

@Luhou how strange, where abouts are you? Mine was really easy to find on our local NHS Trust site and was all online. I find it really strange that the GP surgery doesn't know what a booking appointment is!

Lilothblos · 01/06/2023 14:02

@Luhou that is odd! Similar to @cossie13 I just googled self referral for my local hospital’s maternity services which took me to a self referral form that I filled out online. I got a call from the midwives a couple of days later.

Mummyme87 · 01/06/2023 14:08

I’ve had another scan today, and she measured the little bean and exactly on my dates based on ovulation 7+1. Beautiful little heart rate. She said there’s some bruising around caused by the placenta embedding so I may get some bleeding. She’s rebooked me a scan for 2weeks, not because I need it just because it’s a benefit of working here!!
I feel horrendous. Vomited in the shower and in the car going to work. I’m utterly exhausted, and keep getting headaches. Work is just hard 😑 I’m going to tell my manager this afternoon to make her ensure I get a lunch break otherwise she’s happy to let me go without. One of my colleagues has clocked just now as she said I looked like shit 😂😂

sashastuck · 01/06/2023 14:34

Lovely scan news @youaremysunshine03 @TunnocksTCake @Mummyme87 yay! It’s so reassuring! X

@Lilothblos I told my Head at 7 weeks because I needed time off for my booking in appointment and there’s a strict policy for time off. I’m glad I told her because I’ve already got another appointment through on the same day for genetic counselling AND 2 more appointments in June so I just wouldn’t have been able to get around not telling her before 9 weeks! It’s extremely nerve wracking but I knew she was really supportive of my colleague trying for a baby.

I'll tell work once I get to 12 weeks. They were great with my first pregnancy but I've just got a promotion and don't actually start for a few weeks, so not sure how this one will go down.
It's written into my maternity policy that I should notify them by 13 weeks. Though I doubt there are any repercussions if I didn't.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 01/06/2023 15:17

@Lilothblos I’m going to wait another month to tell work. I worry I’ll come across as cheeky as I recently increased my hours to add another day. I had regretted not doing it earlier as I wanted to do more hours. I work for a large organisation and my boss is nice and easy going so it should be fine.

Redpanda21 · 01/06/2023 15:37

@Lovethatjourneyforme i don’t think they’re allowed to put that in a policy.

Eirlys1986 · 01/06/2023 15:57

@Mummyme87 lovely news about the scan ❤️…not so lovely news about the vomming. I hope you feel better soon xxx
I Was enjoying a rare sleep through the night from my toddler last night when I woke to the sound of our dog being sick on our bedroom carpet…then proceeded to clean up and spend an hour lying there at 3-4am with reflux and sickness myself. Lovely.

Ttcdcno1 · 01/06/2023 16:01

I’m going to tell my head when we’re back next week. I’ll be 8w+3 on Monday. I’m a terrible liar and I need to ask about time off for my booking appt on the 12th. They’re also looking at classes for next year so I’d feel really awkward telling them 3 weeks later if they need to change it for me.

Lilothblos · 01/06/2023 17:18

Ended up telling my boss today, it actually went really well so I needn’t have worried!

TunnocksTCake · 01/06/2023 18:38

Scan went well, one little bean in the right place with a heartbeat and measuring 8+1, I was expecting 7+5 based on ovulation so that's the best we could hope for 😊

MimosasInFrance · 01/06/2023 18:53

Lovely to hear everyone's updates and sorry I've been a bit absent!

I told my boss but only because when I had the first bleed from the haematoma I thought I was having a miscarriage and needed to take time off (during an important work event I would never normally miss!) at v short notice. She's been absolutely lovely, so supportive.

I had my 8 week scan today (IVF so they do that as standard) and baby is still doing well, lovely strong heartbeat 🧡

We'll have another in two weeks as we're doing Harmony and they include a scan as part of that.

Still not having any nausea really! Only feel a little queasy if hungry. Felt like I've had a bit more energy the last few days as well.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 01/06/2023 19:37

No spotting since yesterday morning, but I spoke to the midwife today to discuss my booking in appointment. I mentioned it, she and I went through what I'd been upto Sunday, Monday and Tuesday day time that could have caused it, and TMI she said its probably because dh and I had sex, I told him and he's taken sex off the table 😅

Sickness has hit me today, took ds out for a day out, driving home started to feel funny, thought it was because not eaten anything, had a banana when I got home and it promptly came back up 🤦‍♀️ one thing though, I took my folic acid, vit d and iron tablets when I ate it, should I take them again just in case?

Lovethatjourneyforme · 01/06/2023 20:06

Redpanda21 · 01/06/2023 15:37

@Lovethatjourneyforme i don’t think they’re allowed to put that in a policy.

To be honest I haven't read the policy since I went on maternity leave a few years ago so maybe I'm misremembering. I work for a big organisation so it's unlikely to be in there if its not allowed!

sashastuck · 01/06/2023 20:07

Yaay great scan news@MimosasInFrance !! Sorry @TunnocksTCake I tagged you earlier but must have tagged the wrong person, so glad your scan went well today!! Xx

I've had to tell work already because of the nature of my job, supposed to avoid things like CPR when pregnant and sadly it's a fairly regular occurrence in my work

So lovely to hear about everyone's scans, booked mine for the 16th which will be 8+2. Early scan with my DS is the only time I've ever seen DH she'd a tear so was a pretty special moment

EL27 · 01/06/2023 20:39

Hi all, I told my work this morning! I have been debating for a while when is the right time to tell them but I've come to realise I don't think there's a set right time, its completely dependent on your situation.

I am 9 weeks tomorrow and just felt like it was time. There are certain roles in my job that I am struggling with. I felt I needed to tell them for my safety and for them to understand why I may not be as productive as usual.

I only told my two managers and asked them to keep it quiet from my coworkers for now and they respected that. Honestly went a lot better than I expected. I found it a bit intimidating telling senior male managers about being pregnant but to be fair they have been happy for me and really accommodating.

So good luck to anyone else telling work, it's not as scary as the thought of it is. 😄

ThomasinaLivesHere · 01/06/2023 20:54

@Lovethatjourneyforme My work has in policy too that you need to tell by a certain week although I think it’s slightly later than 12 weeks. I imagine it must be legal as I work for government.
