Thank you for the new thread 🥰.

Had my daring scan today. 13+2 and measuring right on track and NT I think was 1.3 or 1.5. Due date of 26th Nov 😁 xx

Cegbee · 23/05/2023 21:57

I think I'm going to finally take the plunge and join this thread! Pregnant with second, EDD 4th Nov after MMC March 2022 and a year of TTC/fertility tests, surgery in Jan to treat uterine adhesions and finally conceiving in Feb via IUI. I've been too scared to join any groups but I've now had a low risk NIPT and things seem to be ok. I'm British but living in Canada, my first baby was born in UK. Detailed scan isn't until 30th June- seems to long away!! Hope everyone is going ok so far.

MooseWL · 23/05/2023 21:58

HI @Cegbee Congrats! Think there a couple of other brits in Canada on here!

Cegbee · 23/05/2023 22:00

Thanks @MooseWL, interesting - I'll look out for them! It's pretty different here Vs UK so far.

Thack · 23/05/2023 22:01

@moosewl great weaning tips! I think there'll be tears when we do it, but it won't take long to settle.
The pain has eased the past two days, so I'll persevere a bit longer. I think latch was an issue - naggy toddler went with it!
@spanglesj I was hoping for self weaning too. Haven't these kids read the online advice that they're meant to go off it now?!

Thack · 23/05/2023 22:03

16week appointment: is this the one where we hear the heartbeat on doppler? (I guess it varies by MW, I'm sure it was this one last time)

MooseWL · 23/05/2023 22:07

@thack there was no doppler at mine 😓 literally blood pressure, urine dip and told me to chat to my bump to bond with it.
It was pointless really.

GemmaJen · 23/05/2023 22:19

I'm in for my 16w appointment tomorrow though will be 17w, I'm hoping it's not a waste of time. I'm not a fan of my midwife so far, so not looking forward to it. Doppler would be lovely though if they do.

I'm having a hard time with my clinic/consultant referrals at the moment, every appointment they give me seems to clash with something I can't move, it's like they've seen my diary and pick the most awkward times 🙈

spanglesj · 23/05/2023 22:23

@MooseWL same! went to mine today and it felt pointless too, midwife I saw was in a grump and just wanted me out. Went through results I already had posted. Ah well. Shame as was excited! They told me they don’t do Doppler until after 20 wks now.

@Thack ha so true. hopefully you’ll have a decent appt!

@Cegbee do you get more care over there? Congrats on your pregnancy. 😊

spanglesj · 23/05/2023 22:26

@GemmaJen hope your appt is ok too. I’m actually going to ask if I can be assigned to a midwife that my friend recommend at the clinic as felt similar today.

AngeloMysterioso · 23/05/2023 22:37

Has everyone told their employers yet? I’ve told my team leader just as a heads up but not officially told my dept head or HR yet, just wondering when I should… wasn’t working when I was pregnant with my first two so this is new territory for me!

@AngeloMysterioso thanks for the new thread. I told mine 2 weeks ago and it went fine.

Cegbee · 23/05/2023 23:26

@spanglesj thank you! Yes it's been hard to enjoy it so far but I think I'm finally accepting that's it's happening!

Not more care I don't think, you choose your own 'provider' or who will look after you and decide whether you want an obstetrician (even if low risk) or a midwife or even a GP as some of those do antenatal care and deliveries here. The scans are different, you have a dating scan in the first tri and then the detailed scan but no 12 week scan unless it's part of your screening and I had NIPT so didn't qualify for that scan but my OB did a quick scan in her office. Also here you have a nurse looking after you in labour and the OB then comes in to deliver +/- do cervix checks and makes the decisions but the job of midwife is very different here.

I think the care here can feel quite disjointed but I have to say that all my fertility stuff was really quick and efficient once I was referred and I like my obstetrician. In this part of pregnancy it feels like nothing much happens though and no one is that bothered about your pregnancy yet- I think that's the same as the UK!

I told my boss a few weeks back but I'm essentially self employed here and I feel weird it 'being a secret'. I told my previous employer in UK at 16-17 weeks I think.

CliniMama · 23/05/2023 23:43

Thanks for the new thread @AngeloMysterioso

I work for the NHS and also run my own business so I’ve told my NHS manager and some clients but not the wider teams I work with.

Fairylight102 · 24/05/2023 02:44

How is everyone doing nausea wise? I’m 14 weeks and my nausea has been a lot more bearable, if not entirely gone, the last week or so. However, the last couple of days I’ve had more of a bloated/over-full feeling in my stomach which has been quite unpleasant 😢

Psqueak87 · 24/05/2023 04:06

Hi @Cegbee im a Brit in Canada too!

where abouts are you? I’m just outside Edmonton in AB.

this is my first after 8 years TTC and 3 failed IUI’s, ended up getting pregnant in the 6 week wait for an IVF consultation.

due date was originally Nov 5, but measuring ahead at every scan so far so looks like October 31 now.

told work at 12 weeks as I was so sick, and my job involves intense concentration in one hour blocks where I can’t just stand up and leave to throw up.

currently road tripping the Rockies and Eastern BC with my parents as they came to visit. Really struggling with the long drives as I had planned it all before I got pregnant.

I’ve been lucky to have 4 ultrasounds so far. The first was af 6 weeks because my family doc wanted me to get scanned as soon as I found out to make sure baby was in the right place, but it was too early to date. Second was at 8 weeks to date. Third was at 12 weeks for NIPT (not sure why as I had paid for NIPS testing) but baby wouldn’t stay still so went again at 13 weeks to attempt NIPT, again baby wouldn’t behave, lol, just like her father! Now waiting for my 19 weeks one.

seem to have so many appointments here, not sure if it’s the same back home. I have an appointment every 4 weeks with my gyno, then that progresses to every 2 weeks, then every week. I’ve had 2 already and have 11 more booked!
