Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@Phoenixwings1989 ah I’m sorry it sounds like you’ve had a really stressful and disappointing day. I’m glad they managed to reschedule your appointment but can imagine two weeks feels like a long time to wait. Hope you are extra kind to yourself today.

Chanteuse · 31/05/2023 18:17

@Phoenixwings1989 that sounds so annoying!! But to be fair I do think the hospital should have seen you given the circumstances- very frustrating!

ForeverAndEvers · 31/05/2023 19:03

@Phoenixwings1989 so sorry you’ve had such a rubbish day. Well done for persevering with all those buses, I’m just sorry it didn’t work out for you. I’m also struggling with body image and with everything else you have going on I just wanted to mirror others and say be kind to yourself. Pregnancy is tough and you don’t have to feel one particular way. Hope reaching out for support is helpful this time.

@Summer022 I’m 19 weeks and did feel what I thought was baby but now days of nothing which has worried me. My husband reminded me I was worrying about the exact same thing this time last pregnancy and so must just be my body, but if you’re worried I’d definitely give your midwife a call.

iloveeggs · 31/05/2023 20:22

@Summer022 I'm 19 weeks, nearly 20 and my consultant didn't seem worried at my 19 week scan anyways. I'm trying not to think about it for now.

katherine123x · 31/05/2023 20:22

@ForeverAndEvers just want to say I felt my baby around 19 weeks then didn't feel him for 5 days. Now feel him every day without fail! Just depends where they are! Don't panic

ForeverAndEvers · 31/05/2023 21:45

@katherine123x thank you, that’s reassuring! Logically I know you often don’t feel anything until later but hard not to worry.

Smiffette · 01/06/2023 09:40

20week scan went well although once again little boy wasn't moving so need to come back on the 14th for the last couple of measurements.

My placenta was a bit closer than they would like to the exit, they are bringing me back at 32 weeks to scan again as they said it should hopefully move as pregnancy progresses.
They like it to be 2cms away but I think mine was 1.2cms.

I guess if it doesn't move I will have to prepare myself for the likelihood of a c section.

Phoenixwings1989 · 01/06/2023 10:05

After yesterday's chaos with public transport I received a call from the hospital offering me an appointment for this morning. They said something about it being important as the anomaly scan is supposed to happen before I was 20+6. Anyway of course I took it.

I've just came out of the scan. She wasn't able to get all of the measurements as baby was curled up in there and was reluctant to move. I tried a couple of things but he/she was still resisting. We listened to the hearbeat and she also checked blood flow with me having low PAPP-A.

She did mention head was a bit small - not hugely but just off the cusp but she stressed it might have been because baby was in a poor position, my BMI being high and having scar tissue with having a previous C-section odds were against me.

I also noticed the GA age on the bottom of the scan picture said it was 19 weeks and 4 days not 20+5 to where it's supposed to be.

I will get an appointment through for two weeks time. But my head is in a tailspin though I'm trying not to worry. Easier said than done though.

Chanteuse · 01/06/2023 10:19

@Phoenixwings1989 I felt really worried too about being called back for another scan, and was quite upset and stressed at first. When I spoke to my mum she pointed out that ultimately, if they were really concerned the would a) not make you wait so long in between appointments and b) there’d have been doctors in the room before you’d left. I find thinking of it as another opportunity to see baby helps 💕

Phoenixwings1989 · 01/06/2023 10:36

@Chanteuse thank you for replying. She did say she'd have to call me back anyway as she was unable to get certain measurements. We didn't get to know whether baby was 🩷 or 💙 as baby's legs were in the way. All that matters of course is that he or she is healthy. I was OK with going back for the measurements she didn't get it was just the fact she mentioned that the head was measuring small and the GA age that scared me.

Your mum's right though. If there had been something really untoward there'd have been an appointment sooner or doctors would have come in to clarify the Sonographer's findings. 💕

cruciverbalista · 01/06/2023 10:56

@Phoenixwings1989 my midwife was very adamant that I should ignore any updated due date/gestational age info from the 20 wk scan, as it is much less accurate for this particular topic. The 12 week scan is the one they go off of officially for that reason. I'm glad you got to see a healthy if uncooperative bab today!

Onethingiwantfor23 · 01/06/2023 11:13

Does anyone get numb/pins and needles in hands? It started in just my fingers at night but now it my hands too. During the day if I'm holding my phone I get it too. Have never had it before and it's waking me a lot throughout the night. It's in both hands and sometimes both at the same time.

Mldn · 01/06/2023 11:26

@Onethingiwantfor23 i have been getting pins & needles in my hand/lower arm for a month or so. Even after just holding my phone for a couple mins! I mentioned it to my midwife last week & she said don’t worry unless you have other neurological issues. It’s likely just more blood being pumped around or a nerve being squished x

peonygirl · 01/06/2023 11:52

@Phoenixwings1989 well done on getting the scan through today! I wouldn't worry too much with the measurements, they call back everyone when they are unsure just to see if the baby is growing at a certain rate. So in 2 weeks time they will check it has grown and maybe if the head is smaller, easier to push out no? :) not every baby is fit for the standards but what they do worry is the baby growth, that's why the measurements are done with an additional scan.

In my case - I have scans scheduled every month because of my age. They worry my placenta might not work fully and the baby might not grow as it should, so they will monitor every month if this is the case. So far all measurements were fine so I'd think they would be ok with that but they are super cautious and I was told they rather check continuously just to catch any problem soon.

@Chanteuse your mum is absolutely right - if there are any proper issues they would not leave you to go home, they'd do further testing and doctors would be involved.

katherine123x · 01/06/2023 13:56

Anyone feeling really over whelmed with what to buy? I feel like there is SO much and so much choice. Does any one have any super good recommendations? I really don't want to over buy or over spend! I've found some helpful lists online but find them a lot. I think it's just overwhelming! When do you buy it? What brand do you buy? Does it have to be brand new? Ahhhhh! 😂

Chanteuse · 01/06/2023 15:15

@katherine123x we’ve just made our first big purchase which is the nursery furniture - we went with tutti bambini and it’s a lot cheaper than the bigger name brands but has excellent reviews. Next will be the pram I think! We’re going to a baby show on Sunday and I’m hoping I’ll know what I need after that 🙈🤣

katherine123x · 01/06/2023 15:19

@Chanteuse thank you for the recommendation!

Phoenixwings1989 · 01/06/2023 19:08

@cruciverbalista oh I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. I think it's part of the trauma from having a missed miscarriage and fearing the worst. Logically I know it's not the same as it was really early on but yeah, I still feel anxious about it.

@peonygirl I'm glad they are taking good care of you and baby. As they should ☺️

What is everyone's thoughts on attending a concert? I bought P!nk tickets back at the end of last year and wondering if I should sell them. I was meant to ask the midwife I saw on Tuesday and I completely forgot.

Alexandra07 · 01/06/2023 19:43

@Phoenixwings1989 all the stories I have read about issues in the 20 week scan mention drs and consultants double checking the scan and sharing the concerns with mum, before inviting her for another scan, and in a lot of cases, the problem is resolved by itself. I wouldn't worry in your case, although I understand it's easier to say than do. x

NSx · 01/06/2023 20:28

@Phoenixwings1989 i went to a concert mid March, was fine.
I don’t think it would be an issue, what is it you’re concerned about?

Chanteuse · 01/06/2023 21:24

@Phoenixwings1989 I have tickets for Coldplay on Sunday! I’m going as normal - they’re standing tickets so I’ll stick near the back, might have to sit on the floor at some point though 😂

HVHT · 01/06/2023 22:14

Had my 20 week scan today - joining team boy! Crazy to see the changes from 12w to 20w. Had a really lovely student scan me then a trained person to double check all the measurements which was nice as got to see baby a bit longer!

Phoenixwings1989 · 01/06/2023 22:16

@NSx I was just worried about the noise levels as I'd read the level of noise might affect baby's hearing but I was wondering if there was any truth to it. I've never been to a concert nor have I been pregnant and going to one so I was curious whether it had stopped others from going.

@Chanteuse I love Coldplay! Enjoy the concert! ☺️

NSx · 01/06/2023 22:42

@Phoenixwings1989 ahhh ok, I hear you. I think it’s absolutely fine 🩷 enjoy the concert ❣️

Hi ladies,

Just looking for a bit of advice. My iron stores have been low since 10 weeks (I’m now 21) they put me on Ferrous Sulphate but I stopped around 15 weeks due to the awful headaches they were giving me, anyway I restarted them around 18 weeks as I just felt so rubbish with no energy etc and since then I’ve had loose stools every morning (sorry TMI) they’ve even moved me to Ferrous Fumerate last week and still getting them 😫 anyone know anything else I can take or has anyone suffered with the same? Usually it’s more constipation but the GP said some people can go the other way. X
