Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

Is anyone else's baby really kicking off in there? I seem to be getting loads of wriggles, some kicks and a couple of turnovers. I'm 18:6 today, but it's been gearing up for a week.

I feel like I need to stop saying it/they, because there's definitely a person in there (preparing for a marathon, I think).

doeandfawn · 02/06/2023 10:05

@thecatsthecats they/them is a very humanising way to refer to them until you know!

I’m very nervous, I had a couple of days of not being well and now belly has flattened out a lot and have stopped feeling movement for last day or so. I’m 18+4 with my first so hopefully it’s nothing but scan isn’t for another 2 weeks and my midwife is on holiday.

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 02/06/2023 10:07

I've been up for most of the night with a horrible d&v bug- I feel shocking but usually would just deal with it, now all I'm doing is worrying about baby boy and if he's going to be okay!

peonygirl · 02/06/2023 10:10

@doeandfawn I am 18+4 and haven't felt the baby yet. I am also quite small in the belly area but every time I voice a concern they tell me the stomach muscles are still firm and it is totally normal for the first pregnancy. So I try not to worry but can't wait for the scan - also in 2 weeks.

peonygirl · 02/06/2023 10:15

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway oh I am sorry you are going through this rough patch. I am sure the little boy will be fine, they are quite protected in there. Just remember babies are born in all sorts of environments. You take care of you, that's the best way to help your little one. Get better soon!

Summer022 · 02/06/2023 10:27

@peonygirl I am similar, 19+1 and have felt nothing yet. I’m so worried, but whenever I say anything they tell me it’s normal for first baby not to feel anything up until 24 weeks. My 20 week scan is next Friday and it can’t come quickly enough. Can’t stop myself worrying that I haven’t felt him yet. Xx

NSx · 02/06/2023 11:36

@peonygirl @Summer022 I am 19+2 with my first and have only JUST started to feel something the last 2 days! 🥹🤍 so I wouldn’t worry, some of us just feel it later and it’s apparently completely normal

Esl17 · 02/06/2023 12:10

@Summer022 I haven’t posted in here yet but couldn’t not reply to your message as I felt exactly the same and was so anxious for the 20 week scan. I didn’t feel anything at all until 20+3 I am now 21+6 and have feeling movement everyday for multiple times a day for the past week. The worry was made worse by lots of people asking if I can feel him kicking yet and friends etc saying they felt movement at 17,18 weeks etc. Found out at the 20 week scan I have an anterior placenta so you may find the same. Hope this helps.

doeandfawn · 02/06/2023 12:15

I’m mainly concerned because I WAS feeling movement. Hopefully baby has just shuffled to a weird spot and will be back soon!

Esl17 · 02/06/2023 12:23

@doeandfawn I definitely had whole days where I didn’t feel anything at all after first feeling the flutters, I think baby is still quite little at 18 weeks so can move around without touching the walls.

Summer022 · 02/06/2023 13:40

@Esl17 thank you so much, that definitely helps put my mind at ease. I have a friend who is pregnant too almost identical due dates and she keeps saying at 19+2 that she can literally feel the baby kicking each morning! Everyone else asking if I can feel him yet, it just is adding more stress and pressure and in turn has made me really nervous for the 20 week scan. One more week to wait for that, so hopefully he will be fine, but it’s so hard not to worry about it xxx

Esl17 · 02/06/2023 13:56

@Summer022 honestly I was exactly the same with worry yet when I went into the scan one of the first things the sonographer said was - ‘Baby is very active!’

I mentioned I hadn’t felt any movement and she said we will check the placenta and she confirmed it was anterior, so essentially all initial movements were being cushioned by this, so you will mostly likely find something similar, your friend’s placenta is likely in a different position to yours. I researched after the scan as my placenta is also low which means an extra scan and the placenta forms wherever the egg initially implanted, this can be front, back or sides, all are perfectly normal.

It wasn’t too long after the scan that I felt him move, I think with an anterior placenta you have to wait for them to get a bit bigger and stronger to feel the movements. Apparently some people prefer having an anterior placenta as later on in pregnancy when the baby is much bigger it helps them to get a more comfortable nights sleep so we shall see! All the best with the scan, I’m sure everything will be fine (I even know one person at work who didn’t feel anything until 23 weeks) but I know how hard that wait can be even when people tell you it’s normal - you can’t think about anything else, just try not to compare to others xxx

Summer022 · 02/06/2023 14:11

@Esl17 thank you so much, I can’t tell you how much that has put my mind at ease and helped me today! That is actually really interesting regarding the placenta, I didn’t know any of that! I’ll pop a little update on here next Friday after the scan, he had a strong heartbeat when my midwife checked at 16 week appointment so hopefully he’s ok! ❤️

My tummy is getting slightly bigger all the time so I’m hoping that’s also a good sign of everything going in the right direction. I get myself so worked up about not being able to feel him, but the anterior placenta would make so much sense (if I do have that). Thank you again, I really needed that today. xxx

Esl17 · 02/06/2023 14:19

@Summer022 look how long babies legs were at 20 week scan and I still couldn’t feel them kicking! 🙈 tummy growing definitely means baby growing ❤️ pregnancy is the biggest ‘trust the process’ ever!

Yes please do post an update, glad to have helped slightly xx

@LWestYorks have your tried spatone?
definitely speak with midwife first tho as i think the amount of iron in them is much less than tablets, however its easier for our body to absorb and less harsh on the stomach

Mamabear345 · 03/06/2023 16:18

@Phoenixwings1989 i went go the Arctic Monkeys concert last night and it was totally fine, spotted plenty of other pregnant women there too. Go and enjoy! 🙌🏼

Ss32 · 03/06/2023 20:06

@Onethingiwantfor23 i have the same, my midwife said it’s Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, she can refer to physio for you.

I’ll be 24 weeks on Tuesday and so looking forward to baby being classed as medically viable so I can relax! She’s getting into a really nice routine with movement now too which I’m enjoying!

doeandfawn · 04/06/2023 20:09

@Esl17 thanks!

Onethingiwantfor23 · 04/06/2023 20:28

@Ss32 Thank you. I'll give her a call 😊

OrionNebula · 04/06/2023 20:40

Evening everyone, 22 weeks today! We walked over to a friends house & back this afternoon, about 25 mins walk each way and both times my belly felt kind of weird when I was walking. Not painful, the best way I can describe it is tight and a bit uncomfortable. Both times it stopped once I was sat down and baby has been kicking away so I assume nothing to worry about but wondered if anyone has had anything similar?

Esl17 · 04/06/2023 20:47

@OrionNebula 22+1 so 1 day ahead of you. I get quite a sharp pain very low down on my left side, almost stretching into my groin. This normally only happens if I’ve been standing up for a long time - if out shopping or I’ve had it cooking dinner before. Like you it goes away almost immediately after sitting down. Also had some really sharp pains after sneezing/coughing too. Googled which seemed to come out as round ligament pain and the midwife agreed this was what it most likely was. Unpleasant but totally harmless - think it may get worse as we get bigger! I think you only need to worry if the pain/feeling is consistent and doesn’t disappear after resting.

OrionNebula · 04/06/2023 20:52

@Esl17 ah thanks, good to know it's nothing to worry about!

OrionNebula · 04/06/2023 21:06

@Esl17 thanks for sharing, sounds like it could be that although it's more of a strange tight feeling than a stabbing pain in my case.
