Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@WhatTodoALL I agree, I also booked flu vaccine for September. Boots is already taking bookings and you can book directly - pregnant women get the vaccine for free. I usually get it in September due to my asthma diagnosis and I generally prefer going to Boots - less fuss than at the GP.

@Hopefulx I don't need this injection but wanted to just let you know I am having a huge needle phobia but through IVF procedure I had many injections, incl. in the bum. They usually are in the big muscle there and because of that you can feel it more than in the arm. But I don't think you should worry too much if the person is skilled they will do it with feeling and all you will feel is a bit of a sting.

hey ladies!!

I also have my anti D on Thursday so I’ll let you know how it is @Summer022 Has anyone had it yet?

the midwife today worried me a bit as she said it can be painful and is given in the bum? I wasn’t bothered about it but now I am worried lol I’m sure will be fine - how bad can an injection be :)

I asked my midwife if there were any side effects, and she said just a sore arm. So I’m not expecting it in my bum tbh!! 😆

Whatever though - like a PP I also went through IVF and needles are par for the course now. If it saves your baby’s life it’s gotta be done, wherever it goes 😁

Summer022 · 24/07/2023 19:03

@Hopefulx oh yes please do let me know how it goes! I hope it’s not too painful for us, I know we have worse coming with birth and all that 😆 But my midwife worried me too as she also said it does sting a lot. Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as we expect! Looking forward to seeing how you get on xxx

Good evening ladies, glad we're all well :) I'm 30w + 2 and after doing my urine test at my 28 week midwife appointment (not the routine one but the one that gets sent to the lab as there was a suspicion of a urine infection), I tested positive for GBS (Group B Strep). I was lucky that my midwife asked me to do the lab urine test as normally testing for GBS is done privately and not all the women decide to do it... Has anyone else tested for it or has had any experience from previous pregnancy? I know normally the testing gets done after 36 weeks but still, maybe some of you have experienced it already?

Koalawhala · 24/07/2023 20:08

Amazing that some of you are at 30 weeks now, how exciting. It feels a way off for me with a late Oct due date.

@PeopleAreToads I think you probably don’t need loads of stuff but a few things I used a lot for my babies are:

Cheeky wipes (washable baby wipes) and also water wipes for under 6 months and Huggies wipes when they’re on solids

A changing table is useful but also just a changing mat and little basket of essential changing stuff downstairs is useful

A travel mug with a handle that doesn’t get hot on the outside, so you can carry it from kitchen while also holding baby

Gro light that slots into normal lamp - good for night feeds

Birth ball for pregnancy but also for bouncing on to settle baby

Soft fabric wrap (or visiting a local sling library to find a good one for you)

Good digital baby thermometer, I have the Braun one - it’s used a lot!

NUK baby bottle cleanser or similar

I’d be interested in any winter baby essentials/tips - I’ve had spring/summer babies before!

LaVitesse2022 · 24/07/2023 23:27

@WhatTodoALL good shout about the flu jab, I hadn't thought about it because in my mind were not pregnant during winter so no need. But of course it confers antibodies to baby so that'd be a great plus!

I've got my anti D booked for 1st Aug and I thought it was in the arm. Honestly, I used to be needle-phobic but with all the blood tests during pregnancy I'm getting really used to it. I've always found injections easier than blood tests anyway, so not too worried (famous last words!)

kingfisher168 · 24/07/2023 23:44

I had GBS found as part of my routine urine test quite early on. Was put on antibiotics, which cleared the infection, though they do take precaution during labour and put you on antibiotics then as well. They might keep you in hospital for 24 hours after birth to make sure all is okay. I think you should also go to hospital immediately if your waters break. But other than that there shouldn't be anything else that will differ for us, so wouldn't worry too much@Kat32x x

katherine123x · 25/07/2023 08:52

Had a message this morning saying I am due a visit from the health visiting team!! Not had a letter or anything. First I've heard. Anyone had this? What can I expect? 7 months tomorrow xxxx

Smiffette · 25/07/2023 10:27

@katherine123x oh I don't remember this in my last pregnancy. I don't think the health visitor came until after baby was born and I was discharged from midwife care, which if I remember correctly was once baby had regained birth weight.

Chanteuse · 25/07/2023 11:10

@katherine123x I also have a health visitor appointment in a couple of weeks - not sure why!

Itsokaymama · 25/07/2023 11:55

@Kat32x i had gbs with my first baby and they just gave me antibiotics during labour and then kept us in to do regular observations for 24 hours after birth. No problems at all and they will do the same this time just as precaution because the infection can come and go x

peonygirl · 25/07/2023 12:18

Baby academy is running free baby safety class online - I signed up for August 5th. https://yourbabyacademy.com/uk/free-baby-safety-workshop/ I have done breastfeeding and baby-care class before and they were both really good. I thought maybe someone of you would be interested in free provision, although baby academy runs payable more in-depth classes as well.

I had my glucose test this morning - I managed two blood tests (yay me!), no issues with the sweet liquid but a bit shaky now. I have just eaten and am resting as advised. Keeping fingers crossed the results will be ok.

Thank you for your replies kingfisher168 and Itsokaymama :) that's what I was told too about the antibiotic and that we'll be kept in hospital for 12 h after the baby is born to make sure everything is ok :) I'm only worried that the labour will happen quicker this time (2nd baby) and there won't be enough time for the antibiotic to start working (4 hrs as I was told)... Or will I have to be induced if the waters break and nothing happens ...I'll have a lot of questions to ask my midwife next week at my 31 week appointment 😖

Itsokaymama · 25/07/2023 12:39

@Kat32x yes the thought of induction scares me too, but I suppose thats a possibility even without the strep! I think if they dont have time to administer the antibiotics then they can give them directly to baby once born, thats just what i have read online tho so worth speaking to your midwife for some reassurance

Yes, that is true to be fair, induction could be an option anyway... Oh well, thank you for your reply, good to share my worries with someone who's in the same boat! I'm sure it'll all be okay and we'll have our healthy babies soon 🤗x

katherine123x · 25/07/2023 14:24

@Chanteuse I have no idea what to expect. I know they come after but I don't see why now?

OrionNebula · 25/07/2023 15:10

Hi ladies, having really bad downward pressure in my pelvis whenever moving around today 😬 I've had a bit of it for a while but really bad today. Goes away when sitting or lying. DTD for first time in ages this morning so not sure if that could have anything to do with it? Hope it resolves itself as even standing to empty the dishwasher just now was really uncomfortable!

Chanteuse · 25/07/2023 15:32

@katherine123x apparently they just come and introduce themselves and what their role is, talk about safe sleep etc. mine is 17th aug!

katherine123x · 25/07/2023 17:31

@Chanteuse ah ok, thank you!!!

peonygirl · 25/07/2023 17:58

@OrionNebula do you think you have developed pelvic girdle pain? I have serious pain inside my thighs and the pressure is on my pelvic bone. Usually if I walk too much at the end of the day I am like a penguin. It is very uncomfortable and pain is quite intense. I doubt DTD would have much of an influence as you'd need to be at it for a while so unless you had a marathon session.... :)
Here's more on this https://thepogp.co.uk/_userfiles/pages/files/resources/23697pogppelvic_girdle_pain.pdf

OrionNebula · 25/07/2023 18:39

@peonygirl yes that sounds like it could be it. I'll bring it up at my next appointment. Just walked to the cinema which is about 10 min walk and it was a bit better but still there.

Certainly wasn't a marathon 🤣 wasn't our best ever but as others have said on here, nice to still have the intimacy.

ForeverAndEvers · 25/07/2023 20:40

@Chanteuse @katherine123x I had a call with a health visitor during pregnancy with my first. Was just an intro chat and to talk through anything you'd like to. I know people have mixed experiences with health visitors but the two I saw post birth they were both amazing and really helpful so for me it was a positive experience.

Summer022 · 26/07/2023 10:03

Feeling a bit worried as my partner has gone down with really bad stomach bug last night and hasn’t stopped vomiting (and the other end) since. Can only see it coming my way at some point, does anyone know if this will pose any risk to baby if I do get sick? I’m nearly 27 weeks. I know baby is fairly well protected in there, I just wouldn’t want to put them at any risk x

Alexandra07 · 26/07/2023 18:58

@Summer022 from what others have said a stomach bug will not affect your baby, make sure you stay hydrated if you get it.

@WhatTodoALL I think you may need the flu vaccine in autumn as well as they develop a new different one every year. I had it last autumn and definitely getting it this autumn as well.

@PeopleAreToads I don't have a list but keep in mind that most items sold for babies are aimed to inexperienced parents. Be sceptical and ask here if you are planning to buy something. Check also that the item is safe for the baby, don't assume that because it's sold it's safe, e.g. cot bumpers and jumperoos are not recommended.

OrionNebula · 26/07/2023 19:10

@Alexandra07 why aren't Jumperoos recommended? I thought they were ok from 5-6 months, we had one for DD.

Had my 3D scan today. The little wagon had her feet over her face most of the time but still managed to get some lovely shots and videos, really glad I did it!
