Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@monsteramunch @peonygirl yes ladies it’s like I can’t focus, it’s a bit weird! I do wear glasses for long distance but they’ve definitely got worse. I don’t know if to ring my opticians but pretty sure they’ll say it’s a pregnancy thing and won't test me!! X

peonygirl · 04/07/2023 11:24

@LWestYorks oh defo call them or visit them and insist that they check you out. I am on Boots scheme so I get free check-ups usually when/if I require them and every 2 years by default.

JoanneV · 04/07/2023 12:03

Desperate and delirious here, been up since 3am with pgp especially my left hip. Lying in bed now again with a hot water bottle on it. Waiting on a physio appointment from the maternity clinic. Going to try sleeping in a recliner chair tonight as side sleeping is just not working for me.

Does anyone here sleep on a recliner? I've read it's fine for baby once its only slightly reclined and you put pillows under one side of your back.

Saturnsmoon · 04/07/2023 12:17

@JoanneV no experience with recliner chairs but just wanted to say you have my sympathy, it’s awful being awake in the middle of the night and even more so when your are in pain. Hope you find a way to manage it 💐

doeandfawn · 04/07/2023 12:27

@LWestYorks same here! It’s not as noticeable when I’m wearing my glasses but I’m basically blind without them now.

VanillaOat · 04/07/2023 13:38

Has anybody started on their nursery yet? What theme is everyone going for?

We painted at the weekend and I think we are going to go nautical/under the sea vibes! Gonna hold back until I’m in the third trimester (less than 2 weeks away!!)

doeandfawn · 04/07/2023 13:51

@VanillaOat we’re still clearing the room (it was our library so it feels like a never-ending task). Going for a woodland bookish vibe when we finally get to decorate!

Sagittarius25 · 04/07/2023 13:55

@VanillaOat we are clearing the room now. Going for a safari theme. My dad is amazing at drawing/painting etc and even did murals on my bedroom walls as a kid, so he's going to design a mural of safari animals to paint onto the wall behind cot which I'm so excited to see 😍

GemmaJen · 04/07/2023 13:58

@VanillaOat we've got to move my daughter down the hall, so we're working on her new room at the moment. She's excited by the new room, but I'm worried she'll be sad when she realises she's got to leave the nursery and be further away from our room, she's almost 4yrs. Her new room is closer to the family bathroom so more practical and the nursery is right by our room, with a creaky hallway in between, so not the quietest to cross at night. I wish we didn't have to move her but can't see another way really.

The nursery will stay alpaca themed I think. I don't think I've got the energy to redecorate that too 😅

Has anyone else got a room shuffle going on? How are you doing it?

ES1986 · 04/07/2023 14:59

@VanillaOat I need to clear the room out as it’s currently a dump room! But I’ve started looking at wallpaper. As we’re in the countryside I think we’ll go for a woodland theme. Hopefully neutral-ish as we don’t know the sex.

Chanteuse · 04/07/2023 15:25

@VanillaOat our nursery is in the process of being done and should be finished this weekend all being well (obvs not including accessories etc etc but all painting/wallpapering/furniture building done). We’ve gone for a safari animal theme, walls are sage green and we have an animal mural on one wall. Furniture is all white.

I’ve booked a 3D scan for Thursday evening! DH isn’t coming as he thinks they’re horrible 😂 so taking my sister and mum with me

Ss32 · 04/07/2023 16:20

@LWestYorks i noticed when my little girl was born that my eyesight was TERRIBLE! It did go back to normal after a few months though but the other day I thought I was struggling with it a bit!

@VanillaOat we’re not doing a nursery this time as we spent ages on one last time that she never went in as we moved house when she was 14 months and she slept in with us in our room until she was 2! This time baby will eventually move into my little girls room and my little girl will get a bedroom upgrade into the bigger room.

I’m 28 weeks today - officially in the third trimester! 😱

LaVitesse2022 · 04/07/2023 16:32

@Ss32 may I ask how did you find sharing a room with your little one until 2? We live in a one-bed flat and we love it and the area and I'm very reluctant to move until we really have to. Rent prices are insane so moving to a bigger home about the same time as childcare costs kick in will put quite a dent in our finances! Wondering realistically how long we could put it off.

Koalawhala · 04/07/2023 17:19

Dump room here too @ES1986! Currently relocating all my stuff to make a nice room for the baby.

We’ve never had much use for a nursery either @ss32, ended up co sleeping with both of ours and it was probably 2+ that they started going to sleep (but not staying asleep!) in their own rooms

Ss32 · 04/07/2023 18:02

@LaVitesse2022 absolutely fine, no issues at all. We had no reason to do it other than it just felt right for us (and so much easier than getting up out of bed to settle them!). She’s been in her own room for a good few months now and generally sleeps through in there no issues. I often settle her in my bed if I’m on bedtime, just because it’s not very comfy for me to be down on her toddler bed 😂 (and it’s nice to snuggle!)

LaVitesse2022 · 04/07/2023 18:17

@Ss32 thanks so much for sharing, that's really encouraging to hear. I guess my main concern was that it could delay their ability to sleep independently, but that doesn't seem necessarily the case

Ss32 · 04/07/2023 19:14

@LaVitesse2022 absolutely not. Our little slept ok for the first 3 months, shocking for the next 3 months and then evened out to sleep through from around a year. I have friends that have done lots of different things and I would say there isn’t a ‘fix all’ answer, baby either sleeps or they don’t! (In my
opinion)

OrionNebula · 05/07/2023 14:44

What is currently my office will become new baby's room & my desk will move downstairs. She will be in with us for first 6 months though so not feeling under pressure to get it ready for when she's here. Will prob just use as overspill room in the meantime, keep nappy bin, clothes, changing mat etc there.

No idea on a theme - you are all very organised 😂

LaVitesse2022 · 05/07/2023 15:15

I had my glucose test today for gestational diabetes and was really surprised how easy it was. I was dreading due to the horror stories I read but honestly the sugary drink was OK (no taste, really easier on the stomach than those energy gels people use in runs/cycling) and the 2 hours of waiting flew by in between answering work emails on my phone and starting to compile a baby wishlist 😄. Was a bit hungry in the morning but the sugary drink helped lol. I think if it had been done in the first trimester when many people are constantly sick and when those aggressive hunger pangs would creep out of nowhere it'd been much harder. Thought I'd share a more sobering experience since most of the things I read were horror stories and I nearly chose not to have the test because of them 🙂

katherine123x · 05/07/2023 15:19

@LaVitesse2022 echoing this. Mine was yesterday too! Strawberry flavour. Just downed the whole thing. Got. A bit hungry towards the end (11am was second bloody test). All in all absolutely fine!

LaVitesse2022 · 05/07/2023 15:26

@katherine123x great to hear others have been OK with the test too! Don't know if they've improved the drinks recently to be less nauseating

peonygirl · 05/07/2023 15:26

@LaVitesse2022 and @katherine123x thank you for this input, I feel better about mine now. I still have 2 weeks to go but was dreading it already. I am mostly worried about the blood tests though, they never seem to find my veins.

katherine123x · 05/07/2023 16:06

@peonygirl I had to go down to the phlebotomists who did mine!! Cos the same!! But was fine 😂

peonygirl · 05/07/2023 16:08

@katherine123x lol woman, you are like my twin 😂

katherine123x · 05/07/2023 16:11

@peonygirl hahahahahha I know right!!
