Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

Has anybody got to have the Anti D soon? I’m rhesus negative and baby boy is positive so I will need the jab. Seen lots of horror stories that it’s awful and really painful and it’s spooked me 😆 I just wondered if anyone is also having it or has had it and knows what it’s like x

LaVitesse2022 · 05/07/2023 17:17

@Summer022 I'm having it soon! I think they'll check bloods again at the 28-week appt (mine's on the 20th July) and then book the injection a week after. I hadn't heard that the anti-D injection was more painful than regular injections so wasn't too worried. Maybe if you're needle-phobic? Anyway, might be good practice for the epidural haha xD

PeopleAreToads · 05/07/2023 17:50

Has anyone weighed themselves/had any advice from their midwife about weight gain?

I've had plenty of peoples opinions on my size/how much I'm eating, but struggling to find any actual guidance on weight gain at this stage. Just NHS guidance on gain by 40 weeks

cruciverbalista · 05/07/2023 18:25

@PeopleAreToads my midwife told me they expressly do not want to weigh me until the last minute because weight gain and when it happens is so variable and basically doesn't mean anything medically. I did weigh myself at a friend's house a few weeks back and had gained a lot less than I would've thought. We don't have a scale at home though.

@peonygirl @katherine123x yeah I also had a horrible time with the last round of bloods, midwives jabbed me for 40 minutes then gave up, had to go to phlebotomy the next morning and the date discrepancy really slowed down my results letter from the 12 week scan! However I've been told I have a much higher blood volume now so should be easier to take, fingers crossed!

Think I'm the only one still throwing up... lol 😫 I've been feeling very first trimestery this week, plus a chunky kid squirming around inside me periodically trying to escape. I do not have high hopes for any comfortability in trimester 3! Ugh.

BeaKind · 05/07/2023 18:38

@LaVitesse2022 and @katherine123x thanks for mentioning about the GD test. Is it bad I’m quietly looking forward to some alone time waiting at the hospital 😂 not looking forward to the fast though. I’m ravenous at the moment!

@PeopleAreToads nobody has weighed me yet this pregnancy but I am weighing myself out of curiosity really. I put on half a stone by about week 12 and have only put on a couple more pounds since then as I’m not snacking on allll the carbs and cheese like the first trimester. I’ve probably been a bit more active too as the weather’s been nice. There are a few online calculators for pregnancy weight gain but I don’t think they should be taken all that seriously. I wouldn’t worry about weight gain at all. I’m sure you’re perfect 😊

NSx · 05/07/2023 18:38

@PeopleAreToads I stupidly weighed myself and it really upset me, so I won’t be doing it again.
I feel like I’m much hungrier than normally and I’m really reaching for sugary snacks as I’m shattered. Need to cut the snacking out. I feel my arms are flabby and so are my thighs now 🥲

@Summer022 I’m having the injection on 14th of August. I was pregnant last year and I had a bleed & had to get an antid, it was absolutely fine, so don't worry 😀

BeaKind · 05/07/2023 18:39

@cruciverbalista you poor thing. I can’t believe you’re still throwing up 😫 has anyone said when/if they think it will get better?

peonygirl · 05/07/2023 18:39

@cruciverbalista I am actually sick today, I keep on eating because I feel hungry but then I have this sickening feeling afterwards. I also have a headache and generally feel very fatigued. The little one is super active as well - I guess he's growing so I feel him more but he hasn't been this jumpy throughout the day before.

doeandfawn · 05/07/2023 18:43

@cruciverbalista I’m still throwing up too don’t worry

katherine123x · 05/07/2023 19:01

@cruciverbalista still sick here too!

Summer022 · 05/07/2023 22:07

@LaVitesse2022 Oooh let me know how it goes! Got mine on the 3rd August - you’re right, good practice for the epidural 😆😆

@NSx Ahhhh thank you! That’s a relief to hear. I have been stressing about it!! Xx

thecatsthecats · 06/07/2023 07:56

I've just been sick now, you're definitely not alone!

I know my weight was down about 10lb at the 12w scan. I think my bump is roughly now starting to exceed the fat I started with, though I'm quite backed up too :/

At least it's bump shaped not belly shaped now!

It's weird to have not been weighed since the start, but I don't really weigh myself at home.

OrionNebula · 06/07/2023 09:12

I haven't been weighed at any appointments and never weigh myself at home as I'm a former ED sufferer so no idea how much I've gained. I think I've put on a bit on thighs and bum but apparently that is meant to happen as you'll be storing extra fat there in preparation for breastfeeding. I definitely have a much sweeter tooth than normal though - I'm generally much more of a savoury snack person, very rarely have dessert after a meal etc but always craving something sweet at the moment!

WhatTodoALL · 06/07/2023 09:21

I am 27 weeks and gained 6 kg 😬 and I started overweight

katherine123x · 06/07/2023 10:56

Also anyone else crying all the time? 😂 I literally burst into tears

WhatTodoALL · 06/07/2023 11:15

@katherine123x I am. I started to cry at the meeting about our billings and CEO didn't know what to say 😄

NSx · 06/07/2023 11:18

@Summer022 honestly nothing to worry about 😀

peonygirl · 06/07/2023 11:21

@WhatTodoALL I am not that bad yet to cry over budgets (although in all honesty, I could every time I check my bank account) but I saw a puppy the other day and started to cry. We all, including the puppy, were a bit perplexed :)

ForeverAndEvers · 06/07/2023 11:31

@katherine123x yup crying at everything. Been a bit of a surprise as I wasn't like this at all in my first pregnancy but right now anything can set me off!

Summer022 · 06/07/2023 11:50

Yes to crying at everything. I feel so so emotional at the smallest thing 😆 Cried this morning at reaching 24 weeks, feels like a milestone with it being viability week and all that ❤️

Sagittarius25 · 06/07/2023 12:48

Anyone else feeling anxious about having to monitor movements? I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and have been feeling baby boy loads everyday for a couple of weeks now. Although my midwife said not to start strictly monitoring movements until 26-28 weeks, I'm already finding myself anxious if I haven't felt him in a few hours.

I'm struggling thinking I am the only one who can determine if something has changed, because it's in my body, and don't want the anxiety to play into irrational thinking that something has changed if it hasn't really - if that makes any sense at all! I know everything and everyone says midwives would rather see you than have you worry but in my trust it feels slightly inaccessible as symptoms are to be triaged through an app, which yes in the case of reduced movements points you towards a triage line. But I feel like I can't just call my midwife, I don't have a direct number for her or the clinic for concerns to be honest, the only number is for non urgent queries like changing appointments.

Just getting ahead of myself really and know I'm prone to being anxious on a good day! DH has also gone away for the weekend and think I'm just feeling anxious he won't be around, although he is only a phone call away.

katherine123x · 06/07/2023 12:56

Thanks ladies .... it can be a small thing here too. I'm not a cryer so it's so strange for me. Tried to explain to hubby I can't even hold it in .... it just comes out!

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 06/07/2023 13:06

Hi all! First baby due 16th Oct-anterior placenta so some days I get kicked to bits, other days barely anything! Feel absolutely huge already-three months to go!

OrionNebula · 06/07/2023 13:13

@Sagittarius25 I am not sure if strictly monitoring/counting movements is something we are advised to do? Certainly doesn't seem to be part of the advice here in Ireland. I think it's more being aware of general patterns. So if it becomes clear for you by 26-28 weeks that a couple of hours of inactivity during the day is normal for you, then that shouldn't trigger a concern but if baby is normally very active all day then a couple of hours with no movement would be unusual & prompt a call to midwife.

I got myself into a complete panic last week as I hadn't felt her in a few hours and normally I have at least some movement throughout the day with much more in the evenings... anyway I lay down on my side and drank icy water like we are advised to and she started wriggling again... there is nothing like the relief you feel when you have a scare and then they start to move!

OrionNebula · 06/07/2023 13:13

Oh and welcome @FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween Smile
