Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@thecatsthecats oh my gosh, this made me laugh out loud. Another footballer then :)

I apply so called bossing the baby technique which made my midwife roll in laughter. I said she should just let me believe it is actually working lol but I speak to him and try to get a compromise. I also promise him good food if he's on his good behaviour. I say just work with mamma and I'll feed you something yummy - so far it worked as a charm 😅

Another wriggler here! I’ve been panicked last couple of days because they’ve moved a lot less but apparently that’s common with the heat and dehydration so glad it’s not just me. Sat in the doctor’s there for an hour and of course started right back up wriggling away! No hard kicks yet though so no footballer here haha.

I've put myself on a strict regime of filling a litre bottle, using that to fill a pint glass, and drinking half the pint glass every half hour. As soon as the pint is empty - refill. As soon as the bottle is empty - refill.

Doing this ONLY JUST keeps my pee in the hydrated zone. But amazing for sleep and concentration.

But then I think I've got HG and am still being sick. A whole other story! I was quite surprised to realise that I fell into the category for HG a couple of days ago, because I've kept raising and discussing my symptoms with medical professionals, and keep getting told its normal. But at my worst point I was throwing up six times a day whilst on drugs. And yet my midwife told me it was "better to come off them if I could" - they're the only thing keeping me vaguely hydrated, and they don't harm me or the baby!

peonygirl · 15/06/2023 16:23

@thecatsthecats oh I am so sorry you are still struggling with nausea. I can only sympathise as I had it rough too. I didn't throw up that much as you did and had no pills prescribed but I was sick like a dog for weeks, non stop. It is definitely not normal to be this poorly still in week 20, maybe keep bothering them with complaints how hard you're finding it? I think unless I am outspoken nothing happens.

AlongcameLainey · 15/06/2023 16:36

Hi all,

is anyone experiencing swelling?

I have some very swollen ankles and a lady I work with has just put the fear of hod in me and told me it could be a sign of pre eclampsia!! 😫

I am already scheduled for diabetes checks next month because of previous baby size and some other symptoms

Smiffette · 15/06/2023 17:41

@thecatsthecats haha yes probably!

When he gets bigger I'm sure I'll feel it!
I'm sure I read that over the next 5 weeks they have a big growth spurt

LWestYorks · 15/06/2023 18:19

Has anyone had the GTT and can shed some light? I had the drink and blood tests this morning and waited 2 hours. I’ve looked on my pregnancy notes and can see the below. Does this mean I have it or not? I’m confused…

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 15/06/2023 18:35

@LWestYorks if the reading they got was 4.4 then that is classed as a normal blood sugar level but not sure if I'm reading it right

Ss32 · 15/06/2023 18:47

@BeaKind i was emergency section last time and can’t decide what to do this time.
I m leaning towards VBAC but keeping an open mind to both. All the medical professionals are just so laid back about it, I wish they could give statistics as to how likely I will need another emergency section if I go VBAC. I feel like I really need to request more info about my first birth as I’ve never really understood why she just decided to not come out naturally!

LWestYorks · 15/06/2023 18:54

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway thank you - I will call them in the morning.

Alexandra07 · 15/06/2023 21:26

@AlongcameLainey it's hot and you are pregnant, your ankles will obviously be swollen! Mine are very swollen!

AlongcameLainey · 15/06/2023 21:28

@Alexandra07 thats what I thought as it’s been happening for a few days.

I need to ignore peoples opinions I think 😅

Mercifully it is no longer THAT bad, but it doesn't take much on a warm day to really set you back.

I'm very narked that the midwife recommended I came off the tablets based on nothing whatsoever. What's the point in asking me if anyone is causing me stress or difficulties if you're then going to recommend something pointless that makes my life stressful and difficult!?

It's miserable being so sick, it's nothing useful to bravely battle through it. No wonder pregnant women are at risk of depression if perfectly treatable symptoms are dismissed!

monsteramunch · 15/06/2023 21:34

So my urine test at my midwife appointment today was flagged as having high leukocytes.

And now I'm having pains in my side when I wee. Which I'm doing even more often than usual (which is already loads) so thinking I might have a UTI. Ugh.

The midwife said earlier that they're sending my sample to be checked due to the high reading and I'll get a call if any issues. So do you think I should just sit tight and wait to hear back? Or let them know I'm getting some pains?

Sorry to ask what is probably a really mundane question!

monsteramunch · 15/06/2023 21:35

@thecatsthecats

You poor thing still having sickness, that's bloody awful Flowers

Do you walk around a lot?

I am trying to walk in the cooler parts of the day, 15m at a time only, but I've still switched down to just my engagement ring, which is bigger than my wedding ring.

AlongcameLainey · 15/06/2023 21:38

@thecatsthecats sadly, this week I have been glued to my desk throughout the day as we are short staffed but I have a very active almost three year old so when I’m not at work I’m certainly packing in the steps.

Ah yes I had to give up my wedding rings a couple of weeks ago

peonygirl · 15/06/2023 22:36

@monsteramunch if the pain is sharp and severe, don't wait, call antenatal department. If it is an infection they'll give you antibiotics and you'll be fine but don't delay so that the possible infection doesn't spread. If pain isn't severe try to drink lots of liquids and see if this eases the symptoms so you can wait for the report tomorrow. I am not a doctor but this is what I would do.

Phoenixwings1989 · 16/06/2023 10:51

Ugh. The nausea is worse now than it was in my first trimester. I do get a good day now and then but usually I'm nauseous all the time. I don't have an appetite either at all and just eating for need rather than wanting to. Though when I do eat it's not much because the nausea is worse when I do than when I don't. It also happens with fluid intake too.

I spoke to the midwife about this at my twenty week check up and she said there was nothing she could prescribe as I wasn't throwing up and I could keep things down no problem. She even made a joke about it saying it was just one of those things I'd have to put up with. It's not being uncomfortable she said but at least it's better than throwing up.

I'm also a bit clogged up with constipation (sorry TMI). I am going but never feel like I am empty (again sorry TMI). I suspect it is down to my lack of appetite and nausea.

I'm nearly twenty three weeks and still waiting for my symptoms to improve. It's tough.

WhatTodoALL · 16/06/2023 11:00

I haven't written for a while. I have to go through monthly growth scans because of the notch in my placenta arteries (not sure I am explaining it right).

I had an ultrasound yesterday and at 24 weeks my baby weighs 730gr! Yay!

doeandfawn · 16/06/2023 11:06

@Phoenixwings1989 I’m completely with you, the heat has made the nausea almost unmanageable. I’m hungry all the time but no food sounds palatable. Trying to make sure to get enough water and not judge the food choices I make because at least I’m eating.

@WhatTodoALL yay glad they’re growing well! How have you found the growth scans?

peonygirl · 16/06/2023 11:57

@Phoenixwings1989 and @doeandfawn can you eat fruit? Maybe melon, strawberries, later on ripe peaches, that would give you extra liquids? I cannot imagine me being still nauseous, I had enough till week 16. Unfortunately some women suffer throughout the pregnancy but I find it hard when midwives just dismiss things as "normal pregnancy". I do hope things improve for you both soon.

It was great! I love that I can see her every month! 😊

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 16/06/2023 12:24

I've been feeling regular strong movements for a couple of weeks now until yesterday when they slowed down and felt weak, today I've not really felt anything. I've been trying to contact the maternity assessment unit with no luck so I'm assuming they're on lunch but I'm starting to worry now- I'm worrying about baby but then I also start to worry that I'm being silly and calling unnecessarily

Thank you - saw doctor this morning and he could see my results from yesterday just came through and I've got a UTI so have antibiotics now. Hopefully they work soon!
