Hi guys. Another new thread here.
Baby #2 for us. Currently 17wk5. Baby due 24th Oct.
20 week scan on 9th June - planning to not finder out sex. We didn't with our 1st and loved the excitement of not knowing. We literally bought a pack of 6 white babygrows to take to the hospital and then when our DS was born we got loads of boys clothes from family & friends as gifts.
This worked well for us as I felt he did wear everything more than once.
My sis who found out she was having a little girl bought loads of clothes herself and then all the gifts from family too. She felt as though alot of it was wasted either only worn once if at all. Some stuff still had tags on when she took it to the charity shop xx

@VictoriaBlossom cobgratualtions!

I was exactly the same. Had a name picked for a boy and everything!! So stumped for girls names now 😅

AlongcameLainey · 13/06/2023 10:46

@VictoriaBlossom that should have read ‘Congratulations’ 😅

Koalawhala · 13/06/2023 10:51

Congrats @VictoriaBlossom! lovely
to hear about so many positive 20 week scans too. I feel like it’s going really quickly, more than half way already

VictoriaBlossom · 13/06/2023 11:23

doeandfawn · 13/06/2023 08:10

Congrats @VictoriaBlossom! Glad it’s not just me that was convinced it was the other sex. Take your time getting used to it. Are you still telling the father it’s a girl? 😹

No, the bugger busted me-
He came to the scan and sat in the waiting room while I went in with my mother in law

So yeah he's buzzing cos deep down he wanted a girl

Saturnsmoon · 13/06/2023 11:25

@VictoriaBlossom congratulations! I’m half expecting this to happen to us. We’re not finding out the sex but I am so convinced it’s a boy that if it turns out to be a girl I think it will be a genuine shock and require some getting used to. So far have stuck with gender neutral stuff although feeling myself more drawn to ‘boys’ clothes. Very cute that your mil had come prepared!

VictoriaBlossom · 13/06/2023 11:26

@Saturnsmoon

Mate I've already bought boy clothes I was so convinced it was a boy

I'm in so much shock I'm repeating myself

NSx · 13/06/2023 12:42

@VictoriaBlossom congratulations 🩷🩷 lovely news! ❣️

LaVitesse2022 · 13/06/2023 14:21

@DSP21 omg is that what these are? I've been feeling pressure down uterus and against the pelvic floor, like a tightening, especially when I'm walking. It sort of comes and goes. I had no idea you could have Braxton Hicks so early on! (I'm 22+4)

DSP21 · 13/06/2023 14:45

@LaVitesse2022 I had no idea either! I was thinking oh lord the baby isnt coming is it 😂 i had them solidly the week i went into labour

LaVitesse2022 · 13/06/2023 15:11

@DSP21 this is way too soon but apparently Google says they can happen as early as 16 weeks! Mine are not really painful, more an uncomfortable pressure, especially when I'm more active, like belly is about to burst. Is that your experience too? Feels like my belly had a growth spurt these last couple of weeks, I'm starting to wobble a bit like a penguin 😅 That's what I get for bragging recently that this pregnancy business was a breeze! (I was lucky enough to escape nausea in first trimester)

DSP21 · 13/06/2023 15:22

@LaVitesse2022 mine feel like intense tightenings that last for a maybe 5-10 seconds then relax, tummy goes hard feels very tight. That’s not what contractions felt like so im staying relaxed! Other than that I too have been bragging about how easy breezy pregnancy has been!

ttcttc · 13/06/2023 15:41

Had 20 week scan today at 21+3.
We didn't find out 😬
Can't decide if I think boy or girl, anyone else want to guess?

I am positively smug that I'm having a boy, only because my in laws were pissing me off by endlessly saying it was a girl.

I sneezed - having a girl.
Threw up a lot - girl.
Baby moved a lot - boys are lazy, it's a girl.

I'm delighted the little fella proved them wrong.

Until they started telling me all about his football team - because a girl obviously couldn't like football. I told them that regardless of the sex, if the child liked football, it was unlikely to support their loser team :D

lighthousechristmas · 13/06/2023 16:37

I told my father in law i saw baby kick yesterday, and he replied by saying sounds like a boy?! Like what? Haha everyone is convinced i'm having a boy (myself included) so will be a huge suprise if baby ends up being a girl

peonygirl · 13/06/2023 17:05

Another one with the 20w scan done today - all well, baby very active and cooperative, I finished in less than 20min :) he was so cute, showing all his fingers and toes. All measurements spot on, placenta at the back.

I had raised blood pressure and they totally freaked out. No protein in my urine, no pre-eclempsia symptoms but they measure me all the time due to my age. I literally walked away after 3h40min because I had enough (no food, no evaluations, no follow up just waiting). They told me they'll let me know what the doctor says so I am waiting for decision if I need medication or not. I know medication lowers my blood pressure too much and then I am feeling very tired and fainty so I am not keen on this but it will be what it will be.

Lovely to see everyone doing well with the scan. @ttcttc I am rubbish in reading scans but my guess would be a boy. Maybe just because I am rooting for team boys :)

cruciverbalista · 13/06/2023 18:24

@peonygirl glad the scan went well but sounds awful being stuck at hospital like that. How high was your BP? Mine was elevated (130/85 I think) last week, along with vision sparkles and I had to go back for a check with the midwives on Monday. It had dropped more so hopefully I'm off the hook now. I do appreciate them wanting to keep an eye on it as preeclampsia really scares me but I can see how frustrating that would be especially if it feels like age is your only "symptom."

peonygirl · 13/06/2023 18:36

@cruciverbalista yes, I have no symptoms and I suspect the blood pressure only rises when I am in a hospital setting. I measured at home, at midwife's appointment, went to Boots - all good. I got to the hospital and it was 144/94. They checked again and it was even higher - so they asked me to take a pill and wait for some additional reading, hooked me on the machine and left me there. Super hot and stuffy waiting room, my readings were 127/80, then 114/75 then 108/65...I started to feel really weak and drowsy. I demanded to lay down knowing that will regulate my blood pressure and sure it did. All other readings for next 2h were normal around 127/75 which is what my usual readings are. They since called me and asked to come back this Thursday for additional readings - let's see how that goes :)

I feel this pregnancy will be all fab with the baby, all down with the mum :) I already had all the issues possible while the little boy is having a blast in the tummy. I guess I can only be grateful as long it is all well with him, I'll take care of myself somehow.

cruciverbalista · 13/06/2023 18:46

@peonygirl might be white coat syndrome, hope they leave you be after Thursday. My mom always says the harder the pregnancy, the easier the birth ;)

JoanneV · 13/06/2023 18:50

Just had my 20w scan. All good but like @VictoriaBlossom and @AlongcameLainey was literally calling the baby him and by the name we had picked and sonographer said it was a girl!

Shocked but delighted. Overall just so relieved everything was okay.

ttcttc · 13/06/2023 18:53

@peonygirl i keep changing my mind.
Also, sounds a right rigmarole at the hospital. Far too hot for sitting around like that. I left today and they rang me to go back and see the consultant so I drove back thinking wth.... they just wanted to say my scan was fine 🙃🙃

Also I have anterior placenta but defo feeling movements. Anyone else?

xLMCx · 13/06/2023 19:27

@ttcttc I went for the 20 week scan today and was told that I have an anterior placenta. I'm definitely feeling some movements but they feel different from my first pregnancy where the placenta was not anterior so I'm not entirely confident they are baby movements. The sonographer did tell me to contact my midwife if I have not felt anything substantial by 24 weeks though!

We found out that we are having a little girl 🩷🥰 showing her sassy side already as it took 40 minutes to do all of the checks with he rolling around everywhere. The nurse also told me I was having Braxton Hicks but I don't recall actually feeling any, if I have I've probably just put them down to stretching pains 🤷‍♀️

Good luck to anyone else going for scans

doeandfawn · 13/06/2023 19:47

Scan went well for us too today! Was very short and we got told nothing other than baby looks fine but that’s about par for course with our trust (we’re with Forth Valley). Did notice baby was measuring a week bigger than they should have but tech wasn’t worried. We were in and out within 20 minutes including having to leave and empty bladder halfway. Very glad we got the 16 week private scan as it was far more informative and in depth!

peonygirl · 13/06/2023 20:59

@doeandfawn well done on the scan! I am sorry you didn't get to see or hear more about the baby, it really depends on who's conducting these tests. I was very lucky, she told me everything, step by step. I usually have a lot of questions 😊but this sonographer was so great I didn't need to ask anything and we were done in 20min. They would have looked at all elements of internal organs, face (eye sockets, lips so there's no cleft), length of legs and arms, fingers and toes, spine and special part in the brain that looks like a dumbbell which is responsible for coordination. So if they told you the baby is fine this means they have seen all these elements well developed. Our babies development in general is finished. They only grown and gain body mass from now on. Fascinating isn't it?

Great to hear everyone had a good scan!
Halfway through!
