Great news @peonygirl!

Baby is kicking away like mad today, it's great to feel. No doubt tomorrow she will be super quiet and send me into a panic again!

Itsokaymama · 18/05/2023 16:28

@Midnight00 they gave me mine at my 20 week scan

@monsteramunch thank you! I was really so happy, first time in this pregnancy that I feel I have some positive news to share :) I am now on self-imposed rest for the next 3-4 days because I had a really busy last three days and I feel we both need to slow down a bit.

Ah I bet, you've had such rotten luck I've been thinking of you and so pleased you had a nice experience!

I need to be good and rest too. Have had 3-4 medical appointments a week for the last few weeks (I've got a couple of underlying health issues, all is ok just being monitored to check them all) and I'm bloody knackered. On top of working full time! I work for myself which is good as I can be flexible about appointment times but also means there's nobody to pick up the slack or cover me.

Is anyone else self employed planning their maternity leave? I'll be taking Maternity Allowance for four months then starting part time again I think.

Hi ladies! Had my 20 week scan this afternoon, all okay, baby looked fine I’m just measuring slightly above the top line on the belly measurement, they said nothing to worry about but have to go back at 24 weeks and I have to have a blood test for gestational diabetes. Anyone had this/heard anyone this has happened to? I don’t need this anxiety 😫 x

Alexandra07 · 18/05/2023 20:10

@LaVitesse2022 I bought love leggings after reading about them. They are too warm, even the thinnest ones. And i don't think they go high enough to cover belly. I am not sure I'll be able to use them till the end of the pregnancy. I got some Asda ones, much thinner but also they have definitely more room for a growing belly.

@Midnight00 you get the matb1 at 20 weeks scan. Can you call the hospital or midwife and ask for it? I think your work needs the details of pregnancy like due date and start of maternity by the time you are 25 weeks(you can change it later).

@LWestYorks I am sorry that the scan made you worry, hopefully is nothing serious. And you get an extra scan!

I had an appointment with a consultant today. I am 16+5. He was very reassuring for a change! He said that age doesn't increase the risks unless it's your first pregnancy, and even then it's not a big thing. He said that if you are older and the first pregnancy went well, second one should be fine too, which was a relief! Midwife appointment on Monday now!

Mollydolly5 · 18/05/2023 21:32

Marking my place!

Midnight00 · 18/05/2023 21:38

Thanks @Itsokaymama @Alexandra07 for the info. Annoying, I should have checked before my scan. I'll get in touch with midwife and see if it can be emailed

EMcG3 · 19/05/2023 06:19

@LWestYorks the measurement issue happened to me today, so she re-measured and decided it was fine. She mentioned they are so small that even being a tiny bit out has a sizable impact. She also said that because all of the other measurements were in line, it didn't seem likely the belly would be out of line. I don't know much about GD, but the people who I know that had it were not particularly impacted, beyond the annoyance of the diet.

LWestYorks · 19/05/2023 07:25

@EMcG3 Oh did it? Wish she had re measured me 🤨 I’ll just have to see how I get on at 24 weeks when I go and have the test done!! All my other measurements were fine!

Saturnsmoon · 19/05/2023 07:58

@LWestYorks I had the gd test done at 16 weeks due to family history putting me at higher risk. It wasn’t pleasant (the drink is gross) but it was very much manageable and hopefully the results from that will give you piece of mind.

As @EMcG3 said the people who I know who did end up having GD weren’t really impacted beyond having to be more mindful of diet and a few more appointments along the way.

Summer022 · 19/05/2023 08:37

hi ladies, how does everyone feel about the 20 week upcoming scans? Mine is still 3 weeks away today but I’m really nervous! I think because it’s the anomaly scan it frightens me, but so far everything has been positive so I need to try and think positively. Does it worry anybody else? Xxx

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 19/05/2023 08:38

@Summer022 my 20 week scan is today at 2pm, as much as I'm looking forward to it I've been a nervous wreck all week with worry in the back of my mind that somethings wrong

EMcG3 · 19/05/2023 09:10

@LWestYorks if all the other measurements were fine, I reckon your baby is fine and all you're facing is a bit of inconvenience. Which... ya know .. as if you weren't inconvenienced enough already, but not much to worry about.

OrionNebula · 19/05/2023 09:29

@Summer022 mine is 29th and a bit nervous. I'm in Ireland and still a bit haunted by some of the stories heard during the 8th amendment referendum.

monsteramunch · 19/05/2023 09:32

Good luck for your scan today @firstlittlefrazzleontheway

I'm always so jealous when other people are getting to see their little one again 😂

Cant wait for my 20 week one, another week and a half to go so not too long!

cruciverbalista · 19/05/2023 09:39

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway Mine is this afternoon too! I can't wait but yes, feels like this is definitely some kind of 'last hurdle' (I too have been reading so many horror stories...). Praying baby has the right amount of kidneys!

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 19/05/2023 09:47

@cruciverbalista I have also read loads of horror stories this week and I don't know why I do it to myself!

monsteramunch · 19/05/2023 10:01

Good luck to you for today too @cruciverbalista Flowers

cruciverbalista · 19/05/2023 10:01

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway it's like the more it happens to someone else, the less statistically likely it is to happen to me. I know that makes no sense haha. I'm drawn to it like a rubbernecker

peonygirl · 19/05/2023 10:06

@cruciverbalista all will be fine, you'll see. I read so much online in the first weeks after IVF I totally hyped myself into all possible horror stories. Then every single medical professional told me to not read anything on the internet any more and that they will keep me informed (I am a researcher so hard to deal with patient :) I have so many questions). So far this has really worked - they tell me what I need to know at each individual stage, they are open with any potential complications but then also offer how to fix them or control them so that keeps me content. I think it is best to just relax, the baby feels all our stresses so the best I can do for them is not to worry too much :)

Summer022 · 19/05/2023 10:14

Ahhh good luck to all having scans today and onwards! Let us know how you get on, all will be absolutely fine ❤️ I have three weeks to wait for mine and it feels like a lifetime. I would definitely relate to it feeling like a ‘final hurdle’ in a sense. Just wanting it all to be ok. xxx

cruciverbalista · 19/05/2023 17:39

How did you get on @firstlittlefrazzleontheway ? My scan went well, had to jiggle around a lot but she got all the measurements eventually. Baby is groovy. And it's a boy!!!

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 19/05/2023 17:40

@cruciverbalista my scan went really well too! Baby behaved for all measurements but I had to have a good wiggle to get him to change positions so that we could get a photo. He was being a monkey and didn't want to show his face but very happily showed that he was a boy😂

Glad your scan went well

peonygirl · 19/05/2023 17:59

@cruciverbalista and @firstlittlefrazzleontheway congratulations on two little boys! One already proudly showing off hahaha. So cute. I am happy you both had great scan results.

It looks like we are having more girls in the first half of October and more boys in the second :)
