@doeandfawn thanks so much for your response! I’m 35 so imagine I’m slightly older which impacted the odds etc. but like you say.. still very low risk! Just fretting all the time!! sorry to hear about your appointment today. Why won’t they tell you the sex? I haven’t heard of that before. It’s pretty poor of the NHS as they will have the info there surely on the scan & not everybody can afford or wants a private scan! I have my 16 week appointment next week, not sure what to expect really but I don’t think they scan baby, possibly check the heart beat but I think that’s only some trusts! Hope you’re okay xx

doeandfawn · 17/05/2023 17:05

@Mldn 27 with no health complications and our numbers were quite similar so I’d say yours are really good!

We’ve booked a private scan for tonight to hopefully find out 🤞

Mldn · 17/05/2023 17:10

Oh good luck @doeandfawn ! Let us know how you get on - exciting xx

LaVitesse2022 · 17/05/2023 17:29

@doeandfawn my 16-week appt was super quick, midwife checked my urine, blood pressure, took bloods for the Rhesus screening and talked about the glucose test. That was it. Oh, she also explained that they'll start plotting baby's growth in a chart from next appt.

Some hospitals' policy of not revealing the sex is to prevent sex-selective abortions, especially in communities where there's a strong preference for males over females. It's not a medical necessity either, so although annoying for us I can understand why they may not want/need to reveal that information.

OrionNebula · 17/05/2023 18:56

It's so deeply depressing that there is a need for some hospitals not to reveal the sex due to sex-selective abortions 🙁 I get why they have that policy and of course it is not a medical necessity. It's just so grim,

Alexandra07 · 17/05/2023 19:17

@doeandfawn i didn't have yet my 16 week midwife appointment but reading others' comments checking the baby's heartbeat is not anymore the normal thing to do, but some midwives still do. Maybe in a similar way the sonographer may still tell you the sex if you ask. I hope you find out the sex at the scan.

Duv · 17/05/2023 20:38

Hey everyone, I'm 18 weeks 5 days and I'm not sure if I'm feeling baby kicks or digestive movements - it's very ambiguous if I am. I just wondered can anyone confirm where someone at around 18 weeks should be feeling baby movements? I'm assuming anything too high up is stomach? Does it have to be really low down? Below belly button? Basically I have no idea where my organs are anymore!

LaVitesse2022 · 17/05/2023 21:05

@Duv I'm 18+5 too! It'll be a bit below the stomach but not in the intestines. I don't really know how to explain, the pangs that I get (and at this stage they've just been pangs, really) I can tell they're not stomach rumblings nor wind. They feel a bit more random.

LaVitesse2022 · 17/05/2023 21:07

Apologies if people have already gone through this, but any recs on good, soft and comfortable maternity leggings? I've been living in my lulumenon buttery soft ones but can tell it's only a matter of time before they feel too tight in the belly 😬

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 17/05/2023 21:07

I have been feeling odd movements for a couple of weeks now and I still keep answering "I think so" when people ask if I can feel him. I just want to have my scan on Friday and see him okay in there then I think I will believe and be more confident that it is baby boy I can feel moving

SillyOldBear3 · 17/05/2023 21:30

@Duv I'm 18+2 and movements are very ambiguous too, where I'm not sure if it's baby but think it most probably is! It's hard to pinpoint where mine is, I suppose just below belly button but it either feels like my belly is doing a somersault, or like a faint fluttering. I think it's normal at this stage and will get more obvious over the next few weeks 🙂

Saturnsmoon · 18/05/2023 00:58

@LaVitesse2022 I have just bought a new pair of Lululemon aligns and have sized up 3/4 sizes. It seems to be mainly the waistband that expands the rest of the legging seems to stay the same so I’m hoping I’ll still be able to wear them afterwards too. I am thinking of trying the love leggings (they have been rebranded) but need to order them next time I’m in uk we postage abroad is silly money.

peonygirl · 18/05/2023 09:18

@LaVitesse2022 I bought maternity leggings in H&M, they are super comfortable and they are dark black so not see-through. They were only £10 and have a comfy support for the belly.

LaVitesse2022 · 18/05/2023 09:23

@Saturnsmoon and @peonygirl thank you for the recs! I was wondering about getting away with the lululemon ones but in a size up. But I'm also curious about the Love ones, I've seen lots of people raving about them in other threads on here. Definitely gonna check out the H&M ones too, they're incredibly cheap!

doeandfawn · 18/05/2023 10:10

We found out sex last night! Baby very healthy and placenta out of the way which is a relief. We’re keeping the sex a secret just between husband and I until they’re born. Anyone else not telling people?

LaVitesse2022 · 18/05/2023 11:43

@doeandfawn congrats! :) Must be really great knowing, one way or the other. From close friends' experiences, the baby moves from being this abstract concept to an actual person. Can't wait to find out next week!

We're keeping it a secret to reveal at our wedding in July 😊 It'll just be close family and friends so a nice opp to involve our baby in the celebration!

doeandfawn · 18/05/2023 12:33

@LaVitesse2022 it’s wonderful knowing! They definitely feel more real now. I was genuinely surprised, I had a strong feeling the whole pregnancy they were a different sex so finding out threw me a little! Think they feel more real to hubby now too which is wonderful (he was already very excited but now he’s over the moon).

Doing it at your wedding is such an amazing idea! Gives you time to enjoy knowing as a couple before sharing too. Have the best time at your scan!

LaVitesse2022 · 18/05/2023 13:43

@doeandfawn it's funny you say that because I also have a strong feeling it'll be one sex and know I'll be thrown now if it's not! The good thing is we've agreed a name for each so that's sorted either way.

It'll be nice to know it just us for a bit but I'm worried if I'm gonna be able to keep it a secret for 2 months! 😅 It's the first grandchild for both of our parents so the excitement is huge in both sides and I know they're itching to know (and me to tell!). Do you think you'll be able to keep it a secret until birth?

xLMCx · 18/05/2023 13:44

So I had my 16 week appointment today and I asked about hearing the baby's heartbeat. She told me that they do no offer this because there have been times when they haven't been able to locate it (because of how small the baby is) and parents going into a flying panic about not finding a heartbeat. We did listen to the baby's heartbeat at my request and everything was great. I think she was happy to do it because this is my second baby so I expected that to be part of the normal appointment like last time. I think if it's your first they won't bring it up because they wouldn't expect you to know any better. Hope this helps!

doeandfawn · 18/05/2023 14:31

@LaVitesse2022 first grandchild for both sides here too! I’m hoping we can, we told parents quite early that we were pregnant and they told everyone despite us asking them not to say anything so we’re keenly aware that if we say anything then everyone will know.

@xLMCx I had a home appointment so she had nothing with her sadly! Thanks for clearing up.

The H&M leggings I got lasted about 5m, but Tu are quite good.

I have Love Leggings too, but just to warn, they're quite fleecey going into summer. Tu for the day, LL for night!

peonygirl · 18/05/2023 15:02

I had my 16w appointment today and all my blood results are fine, even iron levels are ok. So relieved. After the bleeding scare last week and horrible first trimester maybe I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Midwife also checked the baby's heartbeat and it was strong, loud and very fast - the baby was active, changed positions moving around. I have a scan booked for Monday so it will be nice to see them again too. And finally finding out if it is a boy or a girl :)

monsteramunch · 18/05/2023 15:05

Ah that's amazing news @peonygirl!

peonygirl · 18/05/2023 15:20

@monsteramunch thank you! I was really so happy, first time in this pregnancy that I feel I have some positive news to share :) I am now on self-imposed rest for the next 3-4 days because I had a really busy last three days and I feel we both need to slow down a bit.

Midnight00 · 18/05/2023 16:04

Does anyone know when we'll receive the Mat B form? I'm filling in forms at work and they've asked for it. My next midwife appointment isn't till July so maybe GP can do it it at 24 wk appointment?
