It all seems to be going so fast all of a sudden, can’t believe we’ve had the first baby born and now we’re all talking about hospital bags and not feeling ready. My dw says if it had been left to me we wouldn’t even have anything to put the baby in once he arrives 😂 I’ve been far more stressed about the house and some works that need doing but timescale has been iffy with the contractors so it’s looking like the work could get done around a newborn which is absolutely not what I wanted but it is what it is.

So sorry so many are struggling with sleep, I typically wake up between 2.30/3.30 needing the toilet and then struggle to get back to sleep. The last few nights have been a lot cooler and I’ve conked out quicker and not woken up needing the toilet but I’m sure that won’t last 😂

@BCxx I'm with you on almost wishing the weeks away but making the most of the time with your toddler. I’ve spent the morning painting a ceramic money pig and bird feed with my 4 year old and she’s had a blast. We’re off to soft play tomorrow too for a play date with her best friend from preschool and that’s always fun.

So lovely to see some familiar names back on the thread ♥️

A few weeks ago I was wondering if I booked my mat leave too early (I finish next week when I'll be almost 34 weeks) because work seemed to be winding down. Then I got put on the most intense project this past week - the client was super stressed and it was a lot of me starting work at 6am, finishing at about 9pm and working weekends.

The project finished today and I'm now thanking my lucky stars I'm finishing next week just in case I were to be put on any more projects like that. It gave me zero time to think about baby prep and the stress made me sleep sooo badly. Must have slept about 3 hours on Friday night.

I've just started buying some stuff for my hospital bag and we aren't even living in the house that this baby will have a nursery in if that makes anyone feel better 😂 for my son I think we did his nursery when he was about 8 months old - we moved house when I was pregnant with him and his room needed completely stripping and plastering from scratch so we couldn't even go in there for ages.

Totally relate @BCxx on trying to make the most of time with your toddler (but also not wanting to be pregnant anymore!) My son has been sooo sweet over the last few weeks. Trying to just enjoy it but in the back of my mind I'm wondering how we'll cope with the newborn phase and how he'll adapt to having our attention split. And sure it'll be fine in the end and he'll ultimately have a little friend to play with!

CityKity · 27/06/2023 16:08

@BMK thank you for the reassurance! It always seems like from the outside everyone else is super organised so I already feel like a bad mother that I’m not on top of everything. But you’re right, a baby doesn’t even need a nursery for months so I shouldn’t beat myself up that room is currently full of boxes from the move that we never unpacked 😅.
Ive been very lucky recently in being loaned a car seat, Snuzpod, sling, dokatot from friends so at the very least the baby will have somewhere to be put down and transported! Still need to buy a pram and all of the endless little bits, but not starting from zero does feel a relief. The midwife was lovely the last time I saw her and said even without a hospital bag, in the very worse case that baby comes early, the hospital really will have everything you need.
You’re so right about self care though! I desperately need to get a pre-baby haircut so I don’t feel like too much of a slob post baby. I’m really bored of my current limited maternity wear so on one hand want to buy some nice clothes to feel better this last month, but it also feels like a slight waste of money at this point!
Random question to non first timers - what did you wear to give birth and also to go home
in? I’m living in leggings at home but wonder if thats too tight/uncomfortable to rely on wearing post birth?

Marmaladebear · 27/06/2023 16:30

@CityKity I had a vest on for labour, naked bottom half - then went in the birthing pool and got my top wet so from then on was just naked in labour (bringing a bikini this time in case I want to use the pool again). Went home in a baggy dress which I plan to do again since it's likely to be hot!

BMK · 27/06/2023 16:41

@Marmaladebear did you buy a house??was it your husband that was going solo looking st houses? If so I thought you thought you had one but then weren't convinced it was 'the one'?(forgive me if I'm mixing you up with another!)
@CityKity no absolutely not: maik thing is to feed ,change and keep your eye on the baby; almost everything else doesn't matter. They can't even see for is it 3months?(*just recognise black and white things..) I wore a nightdress both times (same one) and it's coming out again! The very best most amazing feeling is when you get the time post baby arriving to have a hot shower and time for you with no more pregnant belly, albeit still bleeding etc, and get to put on your new pjs etc! Apart from devouring the best tasting tea and toast, the shower and new pjs is my favourite bit. Albeit if bfeeding you need pjs conducive to that, otherwise it's on/off ,on/off and a bit annoying

Marmaladebear · 27/06/2023 16:45

@bmk great memory! Yep that's exactly what happened, he's going up again this weekend to see three - there's one that we absolutely love so hopefully it looks like the pics etc and we get an offer accepted! If not then we will pause on looking for a house for now until after the baby is here. Baby doesn't need their own room for a while yet anyway!

BMK · 27/06/2023 16:46

@DesertSnow hope you're ok- glad placenta holding up. And the other lady who has had potential contractions at 31wks!!??(how is this possible!/did you have loads of sex!?wink) albeit that said a local girl who lives elsewhere went to a wedding in Spain at 28 weeks and the baby came over there(*I'm not sure if sth happened that the baby had to be delivered or if she just went into labour though)

BMK · 27/06/2023 16:51

oh that's super exciting @Marmaladebear and the others who are also in the market for changing house!**you definitely don't need to force it for now; just do it once and right if possible. The right house will come, you kind of just know it. I'm going to buy or build in the next year: just waiting to see if 2 almost perfect houses go up/are available for sale before I buy a site that just has ruins. However we have a house, albeit it's not one I love but at least there's no pressure. But no point putting yourself under extra pressure if it doesn't feel perfect and you don't absolutely have to just find somewhere!!
