@Rowanandremy : I'm solidly in favour of two middle names too! My parents each have one but I and all my siblings have two. We've given this one two middle names as well as both DH and I had someone we wanted to honour.

If we have a second I'd love to continue DH's family's tradition of allowing the siblings to choose a middle name too so next baby will probably have two middle names as well!

BCxx · 18/06/2023 21:36

@Rowanandremy thats a good idea 😊 at least that way you can both buy stuff and don’t need to have a set budget when she can just offer to buy what she wants

@BB1993 cant believe you’re finding out at this time but also so exciting! My placenta hadn’t moved by that time last time but it did move at the next scan so there is still time 🤞🏻 In a way I think it’s more exciting to find out now than at say 16 weeks as really you have ages to wait until you meet the baby at that stage and it’s hard to even imagine whichever one it is but when you’re finding out now it’s happening really quite soon!

overwork · 19/06/2023 11:55

I went to look around a nursery today. It was a bit overwhelming! It just looked like chaos. Children looked happy though. And they have ducks and rabbits.
We have 3 within walking distance so going to view all of them before deciding, but, as we want to start mid year we might be best signing up to all 3 and then seeing where has a place.

sally16 · 19/06/2023 15:23

@overwork you are very organised!
If a nursery isn't chaotic I wouldn't pick it haha! Gotta have somewhere all the kids are happy and having loads of fun 😆

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 19/06/2023 15:26

@overwork we did this last week.

It was very overwhelming, but needed to get on that waiting list which we did so it felt very worthwhile.

overwork · 19/06/2023 15:46

That's a great point about the chaos! They can go and run all their energy off there. I got the impression that if we weren't on waitlists soon we wouldn't get a place but I imagine that's normal around here.

HRSC · 19/06/2023 17:01

What is the consensus on swaddles? I’ve been told that the brands Love to Dream and The Happiest Baby are very good but they’re very expensive! And I’m reluctant to buy something that isn’t going to last long and will need multiples of… has anyone bought any swaddles or used any in the past and recommend them? I’ve been looking on Vinted and even though they’re cheaper they still are quite expensive… Not sure what to do

DesertSnow · 19/06/2023 18:50

Ah so pleased a few of you are also going with two middle names.

@BB1993 I think this is an exciting time to find out, as it's not long to go till you meet him/her, doesn't matter what other people think.

@Rowanandremy Glad you got through the wedding ok - I was exactly the same. Weddings + hot weather +being heavily pregnant is definitely not a good mix.

@overwork ah you're so organised! I really should get on this, I don't want to think about how competitive places are in London 😩

BB1993 · 19/06/2023 19:10

@overwork thats what we’ve done :) signed the future baby up to two nursery’s for next spring / summer.

I think it might go crazy next year with the change in funding coming into effect! I booked them back in April after the announcements. Thankfully we’d already seen a few of them from when my we looked for my toddler. Unfortunately where my son goes, only takes them from 2 so will be multiple nursery drops off on route to work next year !! 😂🤪

sally16 · 19/06/2023 19:11

This baby is already on the list for ds nursery 🤣 the manager put him on when I told her I was pregnant 😂 it's adhoc so was going to pick it anyway again haha!

BusyBushBaby · 19/06/2023 19:50

This baby went on the nursery waiting list straight after the 20w scan. The most popular nurseries book up >1 year in advance here.

DomesticElf · 19/06/2023 22:51

Yep, same here. Went on a nursery waiting list around 16 weeks pregnant 😬 For the nursery we are using for the DS and want to use for this one, the waiting list is very long.

@HRSC I used Love to Dream ones with my DS. I bought them because he loved to sleep with his hands up (and still does at the grand age of 2 years 8 months!) and Love to Dream swaddles allowed for his arms to be up. Also, they come with transition detachable "sleeves" which I found useful for getting him to adjust our of swaddles when he began to roll. They wash well too. Planning to use them again with this one (that reminds me, I need to find where all this stuff is!).

BCxx · 19/06/2023 23:06

@HRSC love to dream here too. I didn’t buy them last time and had just bought the big swaddles made of muslin material. We used them for the first two weeks but my husband struggled to do it tight enough and I was recovering from a section and struggling to get out of bed every time to go round to do it for him. He kept wriggling one arm out the top. Two weeks in I ordered the zip up love to dream one with their hands up and we used it from then on. It was a bit expensive for what it was so I didn’t think we’d need another one but I wish I’d just bought another one. I sat drying it with the hairdryer one night because it had got wet! I’m using the same one again and also bought a second one this time round but I want to try and do the same as last time and struggle through the first two weeks of proper swaddling first. Terrified to change anything 😂

BCxx · 19/06/2023 23:09

@overwork why do I picture the ducks and rabbits cowering in a hut like the toys in Toy Story when they’re waiting on the kids being let into the sunshine room or whatever it’s called 😂

Paintandpots · 20/06/2023 04:13

In regards to swaddling, we just used the baby blanket. Not sure what to do now though with the nights being so warm, can you swaddle a baby if it is too warm at night? Question for the midwife i think. A friend told me to use a baby muslin for summer swaddling.

Any one else feeling their baby kicking is keeping then up at night? He is definitely getting stronger in there and fogies a lot at night i assume trying to find a comfortable position. 😆

Rowanandremy · 20/06/2023 04:40

@CremeEggsForBreakfast I love that there’s more for two middle names than I first thought! Growing up we were classed as unusual for having two middle names but I always liked it. With dd we each honoured someone too and are going to do the same again. Oh I love that idea! Mind you dd would suggest diddums because that’s her favourite name for everything at the minute, not sure her brother would be impressed with that growing up!

@BCxx thats what we’re hoping, we don’t want her to waste money on things we have a lot of but we also don’t want her to overstretch her budget. Plus this way we get a shopping trip together and hopefully we won’t feel guilty for one reason or another for whatever is bought.

@overwork that sounds a good idea to look around all of them and get on the lists. When we looked around for dd, because of covid, we couldn’t view when children were in so it was a bit strange but we loved the nursery and the staff we did meet immediately put us at ease. Controlled chaos is good, sometimes DD’s preschool sounds like there’s a herd of elephants in the room when we pick her up 😂You’ve reminded me to check if we are on the list, we had spoken to the manager but with the funding changes next year I don’t want us to miss a spot.

@DesertSnow it was a lovely wedding but I am in no hurry for another one 😂 especially when heavily pregnant and wrangling kids, though dd was an absolute star. We’re all still feeling tired from the day, it was worth it but good god my feet 😂 what an earth possessed me to wear heels?

@Paintandpots Definitely getting stronger, it feels like he’s trying to rearrange my insides 😂 night time can be the worst, if I can’t get comfortable and keep moving it keeps him awake and moving which then keeps me awake and uncomfortable - a vicious circle. Some positions he gets in makes my skin feels soo tight and it’s quite painful - not sure that’s the right word for it but he’s definitely more active than dd ever was.

BCxx · 20/06/2023 05:46

@Paintandpots there was a heatwave for us last time and this was what I was clueless about. I used the very light swaddles and a vest at first but our house was so hot. We didn’t have the swaddle up bag at that point but could have probably used that as it’s only 1 tog or just had to go with a vest. In the hospital they seem to swaddle them with a blanket regardless of the time of year

overwork · 20/06/2023 09:54

@BCxx funnily enough whilst we were wandering around the nursery we commented that our only frame of reference for what a nursery should be like was the one in Toy Story 3! Though hopefully with less toys coming to life

sally16 · 20/06/2023 12:06

@overwork ds nursery is pretty basic for babies and 'Tweenies' but has good sensory stuff! Dunno how much stuff they can need for babies I suppose haha!
His preschool room is pure chaos 🤣

overwork · 20/06/2023 12:14

No - you'd think it would just be lots of hugs and a nice nap space for the babies! I'll be an expert on them by the end of the week

Rowanandremy · 20/06/2023 21:51

Had the midwife today. Baby boy decided last night to go from head down back to transverse - which was horrendously uncomfortable and made me sick. The midwife has now discussed ‘other options’ for in case he keeps moving from the correct position, ironically he was back in the head down position when I was there but has tried twice to move transverse since we left the doctors. If we get to 36 weeks and he’s still changing positions it’s looking likely that I will need a c section and because of how quickly dd arrived - I’ve been told before that i shouldn’t hang about once labour starts - it will most likely be an elective as the best course of action as the midwife said today that if I went into quick labour while he was transverse it would be quite dangerous.

BCxx · 20/06/2023 23:16

@Rowanandremy jeez that does sound uncomfortable! Are they looking at a csection early (before 39 weeks) if that’s the case or hope you hang off until then?

Rowanandremy · 21/06/2023 06:52

@BCxx its honestly the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been and my stomach muscles are so sore, when the midwife and the trainee midwife were feeling his position and measuring him I was wincing. I forgot to say that hes also measuring 3 weeks ahead of himself which they aren’t worried about but if it’s the same at 36 weeks they’ll send me for a scan and if at that scan he’s transverse then most likely a c section will be booked in for before 39 weeks - just because they don’t want me going into labour and he’s in the wrong position, my labour with dd was quick and that’s added to the feeling of rather be over cautious.

LS888 · 21/06/2023 07:09

@Rowanandremy hope baby moves and stays put for you. How uncomfortable for you! xx

DesertSnow · 21/06/2023 15:29

@Rowanandremy ah naughty baby boy doing somersaults already - fingers crossed he goes head down and stays that way 🤞
