@Rowanandremy poor you! Hope baby settled soon!

@DesertSnow glad you are managing to hold out a bit longer and baby is happy in there for now 🤞🏻a section sounds like a good idea for you given your circumstances. Are you still having a lot of monitoring? Have you finished work yet?

I have packed my hospital bag apart from clothes for me as I will add those nearer the time. I’ve left my husband in charge of snacks and drinks etc. which he is yet to get.

Our nursery is still no where near being done 🤦🏼‍♀️. Our plasterer cancelled this week as he wasn’t well. So we have done everything we can do in there until it’s plastered. We are up cycling some second hand furniture so painted that at the weekend. Everyone in my NCT class has finished their nurseries so feeling a bit behind!

ChloeN · 26/06/2023 10:44

@P1pk Ive got my visit today, I’ll let you know what it’s like!

DesertSnow · 26/06/2023 11:01

@LS888 Yep, still being closely monitored. I'm still working as I think I would drive myself crazy otherwise, with having even more time to worry, and I can work from home. Originally planned to work until 39 weeks but we shall see! I've recruited my mat cover and done my handover notes so if I have to go off early then shouldn't be an issue. If it's any consolation, we haven't even done a nursery, so you're miles ahead of me 😂

@DesertSnow glad you are being looked after! Work is probably a welcomed distraction for you - good you can work from home too and start your mat leave when you need to with your cover ready to jump in!

I have two more days work to go and finish on Thursday! I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do with myself for potentially a month but it will be nice to have some down time hopefully. The midwife who completed our matb1 form made a mistake on it (her number I think) so we’ve had to get another copy and send that off again. So still don’t know when/if I will be able to claim maternity allowance from. Hopefully it’s sorted this week 🤞🏻

BCxx · 26/06/2023 12:34

@P1pk ive got a health visitor coming out to the house this time, it was over the phone with my last baby due to covid so I’m not sure what this one will be. On the phone it was mainly about feeding last time, she asked if I was organised for baby etc, asked how I’d be feeding and when I said colostrum and then formula she gave me a big lecture about how I should breastfeed so I just went very quiet and that’s all I remember from the phone call 😂 kind of dreading the feeding conversation this time as I’m planning to do colostrum then expressing (if I can) as well as formula but I think sometimes once you make any sort of hint towards breastfeeding they can really try to force you into it when im really sure that’s not what I want 😬

BCxx · 26/06/2023 12:38

Im feeling very behind on the nursery front and the hospital bag in fact! Hoping the main bits of the nursery are done for next week and I have a bag of my clothes now sitting out with the basics in it but really need to get the baby clothes washed and sorted out to put some baby things in a bag. Can’t imagine having to try to explain to my husband what to put in a bag if I ended up in hospital, he’d probably turn up with my son’s clothes thinking they were baby sized 🙈

unluckyinlife · 26/06/2023 12:43

It feels so odd to me that we have our first August baby born already and that people are starting their maternity leaves. I can't believe how near we are now.

I finally had my booking in appointment within my new area and have an urgent consultant appointment and scan on Friday as some of my notes from thr previous hospital do not add up to my recollection.. apparently I had sepsis when I gave birth last time despite going home the same day with no antibiotics or medication?? And the baby appears to be dropping centres very quickly. Think it's now gone from 60 to 48 down to 28 percentile according to my old notes.

They said if it hits 10 percent, I'll be given steroids and baby will be delivered as it will be deemed safer out than in! I still have no bags packed, nothing set up and no nursery sorted so maybe I need to make a start.

I'm looking forward to seeing baby Friday however and hope everything is looking well. X

unluckyinlife · 26/06/2023 12:49

I wanted to add for any FTM or mums making birth decisions I have had one induction and one natural birth and my induction was a much nicer experience. I was a FTM who had threatened early labour at 34 weeks and baby wasn't doing well. I had the pessary and labour started at 37+2. My contractions were significantly less painful and although my waters were broken at 11pm. My full labour lasted only 45 minutes! I pushed twice and he was delivered. It was nice to experience delivery and my healing process was very quick. I think had they left things a day longer my son wouldn't be with us as he was quite unwell. My daughter I was 41+1 I laboured for about 7 hours, my pushing phase was an hour long, and the whole thing felt out of my control which I didn't like. Given the choice I'd probably be induced again to give me a sense of control (and so I can organise child care and get my husband back from work) xx

ChloeN · 26/06/2023 13:27

@P1pk health visitor was lovely, she asked about mine and my partners jobs, safe sleeping, support that we’ve got around us and how we plan to feed!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 26/06/2023 17:45

@ChloeN so glad you got on well with the HV.

I don't think I see mine in my area until after baby is here.

EsmeSusanOgg · 26/06/2023 18:49

Glad you're ok @DesertSnow -- also way more organised than me. Mat leave starts in 3 weeks. I have not done my handover notes yet....

LS888 · 26/06/2023 19:12

@ChloeN glad your health visitor visit was good. I asked our midwife after our NCT class mentioned it but they don’t come pre baby around here. But will come once the baby has arrived.

Rowanandremy · 26/06/2023 19:23

@DesertSnow @LS888 so far no signs of him settling down 😂 he does have epic tantrums when he can’t achieve the transverse position which is quite funny.

So interesting hearing about hospital bags being packed, we packed the baby bag yesterday with some things left to get and dw has outdone herself with lists for us all 😂 quite rightly saying if it were left to me we wouldn’t have anything ready in time. I did get most of the things on the list when I went out today that’s a start on my bag but I’m sure there’s loads left to find that’s scattered about the house. We’ve started washing his clothes in preparation which has made it all very real in a way that building furniture up hasn’t.

All the talk of natural vs induction vs c section has been fascinating and definitely made me think over all the options again. I had a natural with dd that was pretty textbook and pushing wasn’t long at all (which is why they don’t want me to faff about getting to the hospital this time round) so I’m lucky that I’m not opposed or scared of that but inductions have always been something I’m not keen on, mostly because I seem to have heard all the stories about it taking forever and it being more painful or ending in a c section anyway. C sections are something I definitely need to look into more seeing as it’s on the table for me at the minute but obviously if it needs to be that route then it will be, I’m more concerned about being in the hospital longer because of dd and what recovery can look like as after having dd I found recovery to be pretty brutal.

sally16 · 26/06/2023 19:25

I got a letter from hv to say due to staff shortages she won't be visiting until after midwife discharged us, then she phoned and said 'I'll be out to see your son anyway so I'll just do the paper work at the same time! I know all your details anyway.. are you booking or bottling?' 🤣🤣🤣

sally16 · 26/06/2023 19:26

Boobing.. not booking haha!

airmaxJ · 27/06/2023 05:15

35 weeks now and got the past week or two I've really been struggling to sleep, I thought it was the heat but tonight it was alof cooler through the night and I still can't switch off. Just thinking all the time, what still to get done or organised etc and overthinking things. I'm just venting on here sorry just getting it out .
Hope everyone is fast asleep still and doing well x

sommeliermama · 27/06/2023 05:54

@airmaxJ I've hardly slept at all tonight so I'm with you! Some nights I'm super tired and sleep like a log and then other nights I'm up worrying and thinking about absolutely everything. Definitely been too warm at night for the past several weeks which hasn't helped

CityKity · 27/06/2023 06:12

@airmaxJ @sommeliermama I’m
the same! 35 weeks today (arghhhhhhh) and have lost the ability to get comfortable at night, so have been up in the night a lot the last 1/2 weeks, even though my bedroom is fairly cool. Have been trying to nap in the day any chance I get.

Like a PP I took a step back from this thread after AnnieApples news which really hit hard, but have been lurking to see how everyone is getting on.

Really behind on work handover, nursery prep, buying baby things, hospital bags etc. It’s all getting v overwhelming. I seem to be focusing on trying to improve everything in the flat I hate which is distracting me from baby things.
Getting more nervous as the weeks go on, my fundal height measurements are dropping percentiles, and the midwife didn’t seem worried at the time, but seeing it plotted on a graph later in the day did worry me slightly. Looking forward to the 36 week scan next week to hopefully see that all is going well.
Hope you’re all doing well!

airmaxJ · 27/06/2023 06:21

I think it will help if we focus on getting 1 thing kind of organised first . I did the hospital bag and I'm glad that's ready . I'm actually trying to sort out probably lots of things at once and that's probably pickling my heavily pregnant brain lol , no wonder I can't switch off .

HRSC · 27/06/2023 08:37

@airmaxJ i totally relate with you! There is so much to sort out in my flat as we’ve only just moved back in after a major renovation and there are things everywhere which is totally stressing me out!! I keep starting jobs and then getting distracted and moving on to another, leaving lots of half finished tidying/organising in my wake 🤦‍♀️ Also had an appointment with my doctor yesterday and she’s a bit concerned that I’ve been having mini contractions (I’m 31 weeks) and so has basically ordered me to stop and lie down (which my husband feels very vindicated about as he has been telling me this for a while 🫣) still have lots to get for the baby though - borrowing a Moses basket and crib and all the clothes so need to get them asap 😬

airmaxJ · 27/06/2023 09:19

@HRSC have you got a list written down or a list app on the phone? Sounds like you have a lot on your mind. Yes rest and try doing 1 area at a time maybe ? Good luck with it all x

unluckyinlife · 27/06/2023 09:43

I use an app called todoist to organise myself. I find it helps to break stuff down into small tasks under different categories. Mine are work, house, family and baby currently. You can put target dates by them or just leave them there and my app gives me gentle reminders that I wanted a certain task done by a certain day etc. Xx

BMK · 27/06/2023 10:24

Helloo all, good to have you back @CityKity and I can also relate to you all where you feel like nothing is done; but don't worry!!! All you really need is a car seat to bring the baby from the hospital in,some vests and sleepsuits for the baby and don't forget the baby hat amd a light blanket. Then nappies, wipes and either your boob or bottle feed. Oh and well somewhere for them to sleep like pram, moses basket or cot etc.
Don't fuss. The baby will sleep at least 75% of the day and you will have months to organise your flat and to do list before the baby is able to move an inch!
Now I've probably forgotten sth re the above but pretty much everything bar those essentials can be brought to you in hospital, including everything for yourself- albeit ot is better to have a hosp bag for you plus 1with the things for the baby in it,ready.
I have none of this done, haven't even thought about the house and have never done a nursery!! It's been an evolving process. I however am going to start looking at teh 2 hospital bags and when I have those done I'll feel mega impressed with myself and kind of v organised!(';)

BMK · 27/06/2023 10:33

@airmaxJ and @CityKity I couldn't believe taht I was reading 35 weeks!! I was like 'wow- that's so far on/so close' and then I realised I'll be 35 on Friday! Let's just try somehow to relax and "enjoy" these last 4/5/6 weeks by caring for ourselves as much as possible. I plan on going to stay in a hotel for a day, having reflexology and going shopping (which will be basically not much shopping but eating/sitting outside an Italian restaurant for a few hours.
I am still doing some work but wfh and am self employed so only have one more client meeting next week and nothing else save paperwork, which is great as I genuinely feel enormous (bigger than both last times- albeit it's subjective as I'm not actually enormous but to me I am) and feel a bit breathless from doing v little recently! So to all you out there- put yourself first for this last stretch as you will not sleep much for weeks months or maybe a year (as with mr with 2nd baby) when baby appears. Now is when you look after yourself as you may not get to post baby- depending on their sleep pattern /habits etc

BCxx · 27/06/2023 13:14

I’m in the early risers club just now too.. been waking between half 5 and 6 every day since the heatwave started weeks ago and now it’s cooled down but I’m still waking at the same time. Usually I’d open my eyes at that time and be able to go straight back to sleep but it’s like I’m wide awake.. I think your body must do something when you’re this pregnant to make you feel less tired in preparation 😂 would appreciate just being able to have a long lie one day until maybe 8!

Partly wishing the weeks away now but the other half of me is clinging onto every second with just my toddler 🥺
