also what I meant to include i above is that it's unusual to have normal drlivery after c section, normally if you have c section they recommend c sections thrreafter due to rupture risk, but you can have 'normal drlivery' after c section but they normally are inclined against it and suggest if you subsequently want normal deliveries not to have c section first and if you have repeat c sectins: 3 children are the most you should ideally have re the level of scarring/stitching involved rd uterus and risk of rupture etc during subsequent pregnancies.

P1pk · 24/06/2023 17:11

@BMK thank you for the info! So useful as I really need to look into c section now to be able to ask questions when I get my appt.

@BB1993 I am 32 weeks today so hoping I can get in for another scan! Today I feel like I need to get myself in gear and sort my hospital bag and order other bits too so I am at least prepared for whatever the outcome.

Anyone else feeling so lethargic today?

BCxx · 24/06/2023 18:38

@BMK glad things are still going well for you, you definitely need a pregnancy pillow! So good 😍

I still think of her most days too, find it very surreal after speaking to her so much on here ☹️

sally16 · 24/06/2023 19:30

@Sjw30 you can opt ofcourse!
I was induced due to spd and had terrible polyhydramnious and would not recommend induction.
I was told at a consultant app at 16 weeks the reason my son didn't engage was there was too much waters basically bobbing him away from my cervix. So everytime I contracted he would just Bob away 😂 and the induction didn't work anyway as my cervix didn't dilate so it was a total waste of time and torture!
Others will ofc have a different experience but they said since he wasn't engaged at the sweep they would have known it would have been difficult:(
Ended in emergency C-section which was lovely anyway so was a happy ending haha!

sally16 · 24/06/2023 19:34

@BMK your totally right!
I was induced at 37 weeks for absolutely no medical reason and it was horrendous.
This time I'm having a section at 39 weeks but happy to push baby myself if he comes early!
Mostly due to not wanting to be not driving etc! But mainly unsure if we are finished with 2 children or want a 3rd and don't want a difficult 3rd section etc!

So many pros always thrown about and not enough 'horror' stories. I was told if I chose to be induced this time it would be the balloon which is why I opted for section too! I've seen that balloon! They say they induce to make it natural and that's why it takes so long.. but want me to have my cervix manually opened.. no thanks 😅

Sjw30 · 24/06/2023 20:21

@sally16 I think that’s what’s scared me a little, is it not working and needing a cs in the end anyway! My last scan 2 weeks ago I was on the brink of being classed as “severe” and them wanting to discuss induction, so I’m just preparing for Mondays scan! Hopeful it’s disappeared completely like 🤣

sally16 · 24/06/2023 21:03

@Sjw30 ask the method of induction they will use and ask for all the info you can!
I wasn't told anything.. was just told we will induce you tomorrow, come at 10am etc.
I could only go on what my mum had which was a drip and I was here 5 hours later.. nothing like my events 😵‍💫
Have a look into induction techniques and see what you'd be happy with etc! Defo go in with information to see how they perceive the events etc.
it's better to make an informed decision than trusting others xx

Sjw30 · 24/06/2023 21:04

I’ll read up a bit more so I’m prepared If the fluid has increased or not ☺️ thanks @sally16

sally16 · 24/06/2023 21:13

@Sjw30 also I was told by fetal medicine unless there was a reason for the fluid (something wrong with baby) then they'd let me have went to 42 weeks!
Be prepared for the people in the room to be paddling when your waters go though 😂 midwife offered to break my waters in theatre for the surgeon and they said nah.. and DP said everyone had wet feet 🤣

BMK · 24/06/2023 22:06

I'm only putting it out there as induction seems so harmless but when you look into it ,it's only 40% likely to succeed in first time mum's and I think maybe 60% in others BUT it induces a more painful labour re intensity of contractions and if it doesn't work you end up with c section whether you wanted or not and why do they want to press it absent medical reason. Also FYI sometimes they say about the baby maybe being 'too big but actually they find it very difficult to reliably measure the baby as to.weight- it's just a guess. My babies were both large but they were both long not fat. A lady who had 3 children when I was pregnant with my 1st warned me about that : explaining that teh head is the largest part and they can measure that, so the rest comes out no problem after the head. Just for anyone who hasn't thought too much, just ask questions and do a bit of research as I was initially blindly going along with whatever I was told, until started to look into things and it didn't all so easily add up.
Thanks @BCxx @sally16 and @P1pk . @sally16 I wasn't sure either as you never know what life will bring and actually as really wanted a girl but got 2 boys it turned out another was going to have to happen (and God only knows where that would stop if this weren't a girl..)

Rowanandremy · 25/06/2023 08:14

@BMK so sorry you are also in a lot of discomfort! Baby boy was transverse again last night that made me sick, again, so he’s still happily flip flopping about in there and digging his limbs all over to get comfortable. I’m 34 weeks today and he’s already been head down and then twisted so his bum is under my ribs and his head is by the hip opposite to his bum - if any of that makes sense. I didn’t get on with the pregnancy pillows I bought/was gifted which was a real shame as they seem to make a difference in terms of comfortable sleeping - I’ve just been wedging the duvet under bump and that’s done it for me 😂hope you are able to get some much needed good sleep!

Thank you for all of the talks about inductions, I’m seeing my midwife when I’m 35weeks and if baby keeps moving to the transverse position the conversation of either inducing when we know he’s in the right position or if we go to an elective c section. I’ve never been inclined towards induction if Im honest though I couldn’t tell you why before reading everything here. I did say to the midwife at my last appointment that if he’s still changing position I’ll most likely opt for a c section over induction but she wasn’t my normal midwife so the conversation will probably be had again.

BMK · 25/06/2023 15:36

@Rowanandremy how do you know when he goes transverse or where his head is? It sounds good that his head is at hip/ie not so far from where it's supposed to be. I don't have an appt for another 2 weeks- when I'll be 36 weeks,so am thinking of having a private scan such is my level of concern at baby not being right way at this stage!
Also @sally16 and @LS888 and I think @Rowanandremy how come you all buy new mattresses etc? I have usually bought 2nd hand everything and saved a fortune. It's generally all in perfect condition as people take such good care of things and babies just outgrow them. I know that it can be a case thst you don't like not knowing or not knowing it's "clean" etc.

LS888 · 25/06/2023 15:46

@BMK NHS advice is to buy new mattresses for each child. Think it’s to do with risk of SIDS. We have got our Moses basket, next to me and cotbed from friends and family or second hand. So just being extra cautious. My friend used the same cotbed mattress for all of her children and then passed it on to us. I have bought most other things second hand and have just made sure I have washed them well. But wasn’t sure about the mattresses so just bought new.

sally16 · 25/06/2023 15:47

@BMK not even meant to use so longs previous for baby apparently :(
The next to me one is a bit manky anyway and the pram so was replacing them anyway!

Rowanandremy · 25/06/2023 15:50

@BMK when he’s transverse I can visibly see him across me and I can feel his head/bum on either side of me and it’s very, very uncomfortable. When he’s either head or bum down I can feel pressure down low and his head/bum will either be central of my stomach or he’ll be towards my ribs which I can see the outline of. Very strange at times and sometimes he’s scrabbling about in there which feels very weird! I’d be tempted by a private scan but don’t trust that he won’t move after I’ve had it 😂 he’s attempted to be transverse four times today, been diagonal twice and then remained head/bum down for the rest of the rest of the time.

Regarding buying a new mattress we’re going off of the advice from the lullaby trust about not using second mattresses.

BCxx · 25/06/2023 17:59

Ive got a lot more stuff second hand this time round (especially clothes now vinted is a thing!) or it’s mine from last baby but I’ve bought a new mattress for the moses basket, snuzpod and second hand double buggy. The first two were mine from last time but even with a mattress protector on (and occasionally it wasn’t if it was being washed or both were), my son projectile vomited all over the moses basket so many times and I feel like the mattress is the one thing you can’t really clean properly so bought new ones of them (luckily only about £30).

chickpea1982 · 25/06/2023 18:43

Re: inductions, I was induced with my second at around 38 weeks (I had obstetric cholestasis), and it was absolutely fine. It was quite nice actually, as I had a toddler at home and so got a bit of a break when I went into hospital! It took a day or so to get going. They started with a sweep, and then a pessary - I think after that they put me on the oxytocin drip. Nothing happened for the first day, so I just lay in bed, reading books and having food brought to me (absolute bliss after being 38 weeks pregnant looking after a toddler!). Eventually labour started, I had an epidural as planned (my first birth experience was horrific so this time I knew I wanted an epidural from the start), and DS2 was born about 8 hours later. Compared to my first, it was a dream! Based on my experience I would choose induction over a C-section any time.

Marmaladebear · 25/06/2023 21:19

@chickpea1982 that sounds great! I had an epidural last time too but it was a last min request - were you allowed to eat knowing that you had an epidural upcoming? I've heard people say they weren't allowed to eat when they asked for an epidural from the start which is one thing putting me off asking for one in my birth plan because I feel like I really need to be allowed to eat to have the energy for labour!!

chickpea1982 · 25/06/2023 23:00

@Marmaladebear I honestly can't remember anyone restricting me from eating or drinking either time I had an epidural, but it was a while ago now so maybe I just can't recall. Though, once labour started I didn't really think about eating! Personally, I'd choose not being in immense pain over being a bit hungry 😄.

BMK · 25/06/2023 23:09

@LS888 @BCxx and @sally16 thanks re that- I wasn't aware at all of that. @Rowanandremy wow: that's pretty incredible that he can move so much still given that you would think there's a lack of space, but also good to know they can still move so much!! Makes some sense of what I'm experiencing as sometimes I swear my groin is being tugged and get that lightening crotch thing and other times in same say she's definitely across,so I think I'm imagining one; but now realise the movement must be constant!

BMK · 26/06/2023 00:24

@Paintandpots -if my recollection is right!- did you get the job/promotion etc?

Paintandpots · 26/06/2023 01:49

No @Paintandpots i dont know amything abut a job and promotion.
It must be about someone else on the forum?

Rowanandremy · 26/06/2023 07:26

@BMK to be fair to him I think it’s getting more difficult space wise. Yesterday he attempted the transverse position 5 times but could only hold it for less than 10 minutes and even then it was only 2 out of the 5 times. The other 3 times he’d get across and almost immediately have to move to a diagonal position. He seemed to be diagonal for a fair amount of time, had a mini tantrum when his last transverse attempt failed and then went head/bum down 😂 I’m hoping it’s a sign that he won’t keep attempting it due to lack of space and he’ll concede to being head down but he seems quite stubborn… no idea where he could get that from 😂😂

DesertSnow · 26/06/2023 10:23

Eek @Rowanandremy, sounds so uncomfortable!

@BMK thanks for the info re. induction/c-section. I think from all the research I've done that if they do decide to bring baby early due to the placenta issues, I'd rather go for a c-section. Seems like induction can work really well, but only if your body is ready for it - and as I wouldn't be full term and have never laboured before, I think it would be an uphill struggle. Plus I really don't want to risk causing any extra stress to the baby.

We finally packed the baby's hospital bag at the weekend, now just to pack mine. Even if they don't decide to bring the baby early, it's still only 33 days till my due date 😮Feeling so disorganised!

P1pk · 26/06/2023 10:34

@BMK really useful info!
@DesertSnow I am kind of feeling the same as you re: induction. Being my 1st time if placenta doesn't move I may just opt for c section as I don't want any last min issues causing trauma. It would help me feel a bit more in control too!
Hopefully I hear from doctor next week to decide best route fwd.

Has anyone had a letter through about a health worker visiting home? They are coming next week and I'm not sure what they will do/say?
