@LR94 If your bleeding is heavy or painful you should definitely call EPU xx

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 05/04/2023 09:04

@LaVitesse2022 @MeganC104 thank you, I'll check with my midwife today as I will be 18+5 on the day the appointment has been given to me. It's my first pregnancy and I don't have a clue what's normal

Chanteuse · 05/04/2023 09:09

I don’t have any further appointments booked! I know we’re supposed to have one with the midwife at 16 weeks and I’m also supposed to get bloods at 15 weeks - nothing yet 😬 I also can’t contact my midwife as it’s changed and I don’t have a contact number for the new one 😩

Needtobuildabridge · 05/04/2023 09:23

@monsteramunch Create a salt soak for it. It's really works.

Create a mixture of boiling water and seawall, let it cool until you can stand it, and then put the area in. Sea salt draws out infection and helps to relieve the pressure in the area. Hold it in there for 10-15 minutes.

I'm really not into 'alternative' medicine, but this actually works. I imagine that the salt causes more liquid to move out due to osmosis.

@MeganC104 mine has only just in the last few days started to improve, and I’m 12+6 x

Needtobuildabridge · 05/04/2023 09:38

@monsteramunch seawall is supposed to say sea salt 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thanks so much for this, it's super helpful and I'm going to try it this morning! We only have table salt but I assume that's probably ok?

Hi ladies, when are you all planning on telling friends etc about your pregnancy? I am 11 weeks today and one of my friends is becoming suspicious as I have been too poorly (with nausea and sickness) to go out for dinners etc. I saw my baby’s heartbeat at 10+3 on Saturday so I’m hopeful my chances that there will be a heartbeat at the 12 week scan will be fairly good 🤞 I just feel so unsure of when to start telling people as I feel there will never be a ‘safe’ point in pregnancy but much better chances things will be ok now heading into the second trimester maybe? If that makes any sense 🤣

peonygirl · 05/04/2023 10:25

@MeganC104 I am also 10+1 still nauseous all day long. I am on sick leave as I can't stand any smell and am very weak. I shiver and shake when I go out so was staying indoors the last 8 days. I feel totally incapacitated and foreign. It's so unlike me to be unwell. I am really hoping I get better after week 12. I am forcing myself to eat but cooking is also a struggle; nothing smells OK.

Koalawhala · 05/04/2023 10:28

@Summer022 its hard to decide when to tell people, I told a good friend really early on because she was staying with us and going to an event where I would usually drink. I trust her not to tell anyone else though (other friends did ask her if they thought I was pregnant). I guess it’s also about whether you would want to tell them if something went wrong.

We haven’t told any family yet as I can do without the in-laws excitement and hoping to have NIPT results so can tell family all is well (as they’ll worry about my age - only 42 but they are worriers!)

peonygirl · 05/04/2023 10:31

@Summer022 tell them when you feel ready not when you think you should tell them.I told my closest friends because I am a recluse and my behaviour is so unlike me they were really worried. One was visibility relieved that I was telling him I was pregnant and not that I had cancer. I look like a cow chewed me and spit me out so I understood his panic :) some of my friends even advised not to tell everyone because not everyone will be positive about the news and I don't need negatively. I love how they take care of me and I took the advice - I haven't told anyone out of my close circle yet and don't plan to until I start showing.

BeaKind · 05/04/2023 10:31

@Summer022 I had scan on Mondayabout the same as you at 10+1 and all looked ok but not had screening yet as it’s too early. That’s the only thing that I’m worried about but we’re planning on telling our parents this weekend (we need my mum to look after our little boy for my next scan appt so think we’ll just be honest).

Hoping that if anything is found with the screening we’ll just tell them but we would have probably told them anyway even if we hadn’t revealed we were expecting if that makes any sense at all 😬

I think we’ll tell friends casually when we see them but not shout it from the rooftops.

BeaKind · 05/04/2023 10:34

@peonygirl aw bless you. Hope you feel better soon. I felt a bit rubbish last week but much better this week even though I’ve got a cold now. But food smells are fine thankfully!

Summer022 · 05/04/2023 10:36

Thanks ladies, I definitely agree on telling people when you feel ready and not because you feel like you have to tell them. I have a bit of a situation as I am a bridesmaid later in the year for my friend as she wants for me to have a dress fitting, but she’s having fertility struggles herself and I just feel worried about telling her, though I need to at some point because of the dress etc. Maybe a gentle text would be a good idea so she can respond in her own time. A tricky one to navigate. Xx

Alexandra07 · 05/04/2023 10:51

@Summer022 i have a couple of friends with fertility issues and a couple who want a second child but not their partners. I will let everyone know with a text after my nipt results come back(I am 41 so worried). There may be more having issues I am not aware of. I'll make a big thing announcing it to my daughter and parents/parents in law. Only one friend knows. If I have to terminate the pregnancy because of the nipt results, I don't want to have to explain to anyone.

NSx · 05/04/2023 10:55

@ttcttc what my midwife said is that they can send it from the hospital, but it takes ages to get out the hospital through the mail system so said it’s quicker to post it ourselves she gave me it in a prepackaged sealed envelope that was already paid for next day guaranteed delivery. I’m still waiting on my results 😵‍💫 they should have been back yesterday so who knows 😅

Ah right I follow now. I always thought bloods spoiled if they weren't kept cool. Shows what I know 😂 x

monsteramunch · 05/04/2023 11:25

Having a panic now.

Doctor called about my latest blood test results. Overactive thyroid they need to treat right away apparently, so they want me to come in this afternoon to discuss.

Said absolute lowest level they're happy with is 0.55 (normal range is 0.55 - 5), mine was 0.8 early March and 0.05 last week. So he said that means mine is rock bottom and the lowest the test can measure.

Obviously I've googled and I'm now massively panicking about the risk of miscarriage and still birth 😞

Feel stupid for worrying about my bloody finger now.

Has anyone else had similar issues in this or previous pregnancies?

Sorry was 0.08 early March that was meant to say.

Alexandra07 · 05/04/2023 12:00

@monsteramunch I have unreactive thyroid so I have been monitoring it. I already take medication for it. I haven't been through what you have, but just wanted to say that the numbers will change shortly after you start medication. It's great they spotted it early on and you will discuss about it today.

Alexandra07 · 05/04/2023 12:05

@monsteramunch just to add, have a look here:
https://www.btf-thyroid.org/pregnancy-and-thyroid-disorders-guidance-for-patients
It's from the British thyroid association. TSH should be below 2.5 during pregnancy.

EMcG3 · 05/04/2023 12:37

@NSx - have you heard from the NHS yet today?? Also, I was just thinking that they told me that they would call me with results last time and they did not - I had to call them.

NSx · 05/04/2023 13:27

@EMcG3 they’ve literally just phoned me right now.
Low risk for all 3 trisomy’s 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
I am so relieved, my heart was literally beating out of my chest waiting to hear the words, I was terrified.

have you heard back today? If not I hope they get back to you soon 🤍 last time when there was bad news they contacted me via phone too, so I would imagine they would call you.
I did ring them yesterday though but the results weren’t back yet and they did advise they would call me as soon as results were in!

sending you a big hug xx

EMcG3 · 05/04/2023 13:42

@NSx - yes! I have, and same experience - low risk for everything! We spent so long reading the results it took a long time to remember that foetal sex was on the results too. I did not actually believe that it would be ok and am surprised it is - that was a huge burden for a long time.

I'm so pleased that it is wonderful news for both of us.

LR94 · 05/04/2023 13:43

How much has everyone been paying for your NIPT tests if you don’t mind me asking? Online i can only see them for like £400? Xx
