@Ss32 how accurate are the size scans? I didn’t have one but all the midwives were adamant DS would be 7lb and I knew they were wrong and so did my mom (Same stature as me and could see how big I was). He was 9lb.

i think the biggest help for me in terms of the emergency c-section was my NCT classes where they had demonstrated how many people would be in the room and explained why. This made me much more relaxed about it all.

I don’t think they’re very accurate at all! My sister was told her baby would be 7-8lb, he was 4lb 13oz! With my little girl, they estimated at 37 weeks that she was 7lb 2oz, she came at 40+11(!) and was 8lb 9oz so I guess that was an ok guess(?)

AlongcameLainey · 04/04/2023 21:58

@PrimarilyParented not accurate at all! I had one at 37 weeks with DD1 and they assured me she would be 6-7 ibs and I had a brutal labour and she came out at 9ib11oz 😅😂

@Phoenixwings1989 i was bleeding for about 2 days after but not actual blood it was really dark like old blood. When i first had the bleed it was literally bright red fresh blood.
I haven’t bled since and its been a whole week so fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again but she did say if i get any spotting after this not to worry.
its so difficult to remain positive when you are bleeding, you automatically expect the worst but the chance of miscarriage at this stage is really low i think, like 1.6%
are you still bleeding now? Xx

Phoenixwings1989 · 04/04/2023 22:35

@LR94 I stopped bleeding this morning but when I went to the toilet two hours ago there was fresh red blood again the same as this morning. She did there was a huge chance I would bleed again and I might bleed multiple times. She said I needed to be contacting the hospital if and when I do experience it so they're notified but said as it was small she thought it likely it'll either bleed out or absorb itself.

It just makes me so nervous 😪

Hoping all will be well with your pregnancy 🤞

Chanteuse · 04/04/2023 22:41

@cruciverbalista gorgeous scan pic! I’m due 8th Oct too 🥰

My midwife said there’s a chance I may need a C-section depending on my growth scans later on. DH thinks I’ll need one cause babies are giant (like 10-12lb) on his side of the family 😳 so I’ll be keeping my options open for now!

monsteramunch · 04/04/2023 23:43

Oh dear, my finger has been sore for a couple of days and I've been popping in a little savlon and covering with plaster, cleaning a couple of times a day between plaster changes. Just took off tonight's one and even for a sporner like me... bleurgh. Red hot, tight skin and can feel my pulse in it, shudder.

GP is calling me about something else pregnancy related tomorrow so I'll beg them for some help with this too as the pain is super bad now and it must be infected as there's been puss 😬

Not sure if they'll want to give me antibiotics at this stage, I wonder what they'll suggest.

ForeverAndEvers · 05/04/2023 05:35

@LR94 nice to have someone with same dates, how are you feeling?

@monsteramunch weirdly I got a finger infection in early pregnancy with my first. I just self treated and regretted it as got quite bad (all cleared up fine eventually) so do think it’s worth speaking to a doctor.

ttcttc · 05/04/2023 07:11

I'm probably going to sound a bit dim but can someone explain to me how the blood tests work? I had bloods taken at my initial midwife appointment ... when will I get more taken? Or will I not?

Jealousofchiliheeler · 05/04/2023 07:21

@monsteramunch ouch that sounds super sore! Do you think it's worse because of weakened immune system in pregnancy? I'm really struggling to try and shake off a cold that I've had for over a week, still feeling grim and also got mild case of conjunctivitis now which I never get!

Alexandra07 · 05/04/2023 08:06

@Phoenixwings1989 I hope Bleeding stops soon. It's scary even if you know what causes it.

@ttcttc they will get bloods if you want the combined test at 12 weeks. If there are no health issues I am not sure you do more blood tests, I can't see anything in the NHS antenatal care. You will review your results at 16 weeks. You have an urine test in every appointment with the midwife.

Did you have an urine test at 12 weeks? The ones who had the scan already?

I forgot to take my pregnacare vitamins twice the last weeks and I felt worse the next day, has anyone had the same?

MeganC104 · 05/04/2023 08:08

10+1 and still feeling really nauseous. Threw up quite a bit this morning and need to go into work today. I thought you were supposed to start feeling better after 9 weeks 😩

LaVitesse2022 · 05/04/2023 08:26

@Alexandra07 it was only blood tests at 12 week scan for the combined screening, no urine

LR94 · 05/04/2023 08:26

@Phoenixwings1989 so i’ve literally started bleeding again this morning! But its not really the same as last time. Theres alot of it and its really dark, sorry for the tmi.
She did say spotting would be normal after but this is like an actual period!

cruciverbalista · 05/04/2023 08:28

Sorry @MeganC104 I'm over 13 weeks and it's only just starting to improve a bit I'm afraid.
@Alexandra07 I don't think it's standard to give a urine sample at the 12 wk scan - midwife had asked me for one as the last one had been contaminated, but everyone at the appointment was a bit confused by it.
@Chanteuse yay due date twins 😍

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 05/04/2023 08:35

@ttcttc I asked about bloods at my booking in appointment and my midwife said next time they were taken would be at my 26 week appointment.

Is anyone rhesus negative? I have just had an appointment letter through with a date to go and get the anti-d injection in May. It's looking like a busy week in May, I have my 16 week app with the midwife, this injection at the hospital and my 20 week scan all within a week of each other

Yes had bloods and urine at 10 week. All normal from what I can tell on the app. Yrone says NR so not sure if that's not recorded or not reported or it's ok lol

I had bloods at 10 week app. But I think she maybe did mention bloods later for the testing of the three chromosomals. I was wondering more about the nipt etc. it's my first baby and I'm a bit unclear x

NSx · 05/04/2023 08:45

@ttcttc I was lucky my NIPT bloods and booking appt were the same day (different hospital) and the nurse who took my NIPT bloods took my booking bloods aswell so I didn’t have to give blood twice.
I had to then take the bloods to the post office to post to the lab, im not sure if it’s the same where you are?

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway im also rhesus negative, my experience last time was that I had to have anti d a few times as I had a bleed and also an amnio so an antid is done anytime something invasive happens

LaVitesse2022 · 05/04/2023 08:46

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway I'm rhesus negative and I got a letter from the midwife about having a test first to see if baby is R positive before having the injection (if they're negative you don't need to). No date yet though

firstlittlefrazzleontheway · 05/04/2023 08:49

@LaVitesse2022 my midwife also mentioned a blood test to check baby's blood type to see if I needed the injection or not and then I got this letter through so I'm quite confused

Phoenixwings1989 · 05/04/2023 08:50

@Alexandra07 there was only old blood there when I wiped before I went to bed and this morning. You're right about it being unsettling still. I find myself dreading going to the toilet because I don't want to see any blood.

@LR94 sorry to hear your bleeding again. Did they mention how big the hematoma was at all? The Sonographer said mine was small but there was still more bleeding to come she thought likely. It's all so worrying. Do let them know though. I'm going to speak to my midwife today and let her know the findings of the private scan. Probably don't need to but I feel like I'm being proactive at least. Hope the bleeding stops for you soon.

@MeganC104 I thought the same but it has only got worse and I'm now 12+4. When I was pregnant with DD the nausea never went just fluctuated day by day. I've gone off everything. The only things I can tolerate are soup, crisps and lightly buttered bread. The rest makes me 🤢

LR94 · 05/04/2023 08:52

@ForeverAndEvers I have been feeling fine actually, the sickness and nausea has slowed down however i’m bleeding again now which I was expecting but is also a panic. I’ve got 9 days until my next scan, not sure whether to call EPAS but she did mention I could bleed again.
how have you been feeling? Xx

ttcttc · 05/04/2023 08:56

@NSx I've no idea what the procedure is her. I'm in Cumbria. I don't think we post to the labs ourself but will soon see.

LaVitesse2022 · 05/04/2023 09:02

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway according to the NHS website the anti D injection is usually administered after 28 weeks so maybe your appointment is to check baby's blood type?

MeganC104 · 05/04/2023 09:02

@firstlittlefrazzleontheway I'm rhesus neg. They usually give the first anti d at 28 weeks unless you've had a bleed. They usually test for babies blood group around 15 weeks.
