@Hlc86 I hope you are alright - just catching up on messages. Fingers and toes crossed for you that you get to go home soon. Hospital temps are awful some rooms are saunas and some rooms and freezing with air con blasting ice cold air .

@dresslol I had an ECV with my last pregnancy it was painful for me - but I’m super sensitive to touch, however I know someone else who had it done and said she felt very minimal pain ( I hope that’s the case for you) However the pain was worth it for me as I really didn’t want a c section I’m scared of large needles and blood. Fingers crossed you don’t have an emergency c section. Did they tell you nil by mouth before hand . For my ECV it involved two scans one before and after and then I had to stay in hospital for four hours as they checked baby’s heartbeat on the monitor .

dresslol · 13/05/2023 10:16

@Zaalfruit thanks so much for the advice, I didn’t know about nil by mouth, I wasn’t told and as it’s on Tuesday I doubt anyone would have got round to informing me. For how long before must I not eat?

I am expecting it to hurt, I find the midwife digging the tape measure into my pubic bone painful! But desperately don’t want a c-section so wiling to try anything.

Also trying the spinning babies moves recommended by other mums here, thanks all x x

Zaalfruit · 13/05/2023 11:03

My procedure was at 10am from what I recall they told me to stop eating 6 hours before just clear liquids like water are allowed . My best bet would be call the trust you are with and ask for their advise - do you require to be nil by mouth and a full bladder as those were the two things they requested for me . I remember the reason they said nil by mouth was just incase of an emergency c section. @dresslol sending you lots of well wishes and hopefully this will turn the baby .

Hlc86 · 13/05/2023 12:27

Feeling OK and like I say feel bad I'm taking up a bed, I'm still having the tightenings but not painful so that's a good sign, doc said I will be able to go home after my second jab so at least I will get some sleep tonight. Thank you all so much for your messages they are keeping me sane 😂.

@Belami I'm with the ladies who are being induced so I'm seeing various stages of their pain atm 😔

BobbySD345 · 13/05/2023 13:09

When the midwife had a feel on Thursday she said baby is head down but not engaged and lying sort of wonky. I can tell she is still head down as she gets hiccups and i can feel her whole head and upper body move really low down. I just had some caffeine free Pepsi max I got as a treat as it costs a bomb doesn't it but its given her hiccups lol. I always feel bad.

@Hlc86 I bet being on the induction ward is tricky seeing the various stages. Hope you get to go home after tonight's jab !

firsttimelondonmummy · 13/05/2023 16:30

@BobbySD345 my little one is also head down but wonky too and I am 34 +2.
On the note of Pepsi, after the cinema last week I was so anxious and had such bad heart palpitations and couldn’t work out why.
Neither me or my partner realised Diet Coke had caffeine in and I’ve not had any caffeine my whole pregnancy and we’d had a large one at the cinema 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

BobbySD345 · 13/05/2023 19:47

@firsttimelondonmummy Ah thats interesting re position. She basically said they'd see me again on 22nd and see where shes lying then! Hoping she straightens up.

Coke is my absolute fav! I always have sugar free but I've also been avoiding caffeine. I bet baby was doing somersaults after your cinema treat !

BobbySD345 · 13/05/2023 20:15

Random but does anyone know if we are meant to avoid gel nails or acrylics etc incase we need a c section? I can't remember anyone telling me that last time but I've just booked in for nails again.

I had gel nails for my last birth and will be again this time. I don't think it's a problem, they can also put the oxygen monitor on your toe. But they were able to measure mine on my finger even with gel.

Zaalfruit · 14/05/2023 07:21

Hiya all !! Is anyone else getting swollen gums . My swollen gums have reappeared and I don’t know what to do . I know we can’t use bonjela - well the pharmacy said it’s not tested on pregnant women so don’t risk it. I don’t know what to do the pain is immense giving me a migraine . If anyone has any tips or tricks please provide I would really appreciate it x

tigerlily0 · 14/05/2023 08:56

Can anyone recommend either a swaddle(s) or sleeping. They weren't really a thing with my other kids, well sleeping bags were but more when the baby was older.

C1umsyGiraffe · 14/05/2023 09:13

@tigerlily0 we've got a couple extra large swaddle Muslims and also got these - I didn't want to pay a huge amount for them cause she might not even like them! But I've heard really good things about the love2dream swaddle as well?

@Zaalfruit that sounds horrible I'm so sorry! No tips or tricks here im afraid but hope it goes away soon!

Funfamilytimes · 14/05/2023 11:18

@Zaalfruit I had the worst gums in my first pregnancy. Best thing I can suggest is going to the emergency dentist today and get antibiotics. It’s the only thing that helped me and then sign up for gum treatment too… like a hygienist but a special one and you go more regularly.
They will say to try to hold off until the baby is here but if it was an emergency/needed outside of dentistry they would give you antibiotics anyway.

Hope you get some sort of relief soon because tooth pain and pregnancy is a horrible combo!

firsttimelondonmummy · 14/05/2023 12:35

@Zaalfruit ditto to what @Funfamilytimes said.
I’ve had a hygiene and clean every couple months since becoming pregnant and it’s hugely helped.
(I can’t actually explain how badly mine bleed 🤦🏻‍♀️).

The only caveat with antibiotics I’d say whilst pregnant is that check which ones they want to prescribe as some can have long lasting effects on the baby’s teeth. My DH has terrible problems with his teeth and the dentist said that it will probably be because his mum was on antibiotics in the second or third trimester (we checked and she was)

My gums bleed sometimes - dentist suggested gargling salt water...

Just catching up on the thread - how are you doing @Hlc86?

Zaalfruit · 15/05/2023 07:02

Thank you everyone for your advise about what to do. I called my dentist and they have no appointments until mid June not even a single emergency one I don’t understand . I am going to try and ring around different places today to see if I can find another dentist. I don’t think they will give me antibiotics- I have an allergy to most antibiotics, penicillin, aspirin it’s very frustrating. Also I’m due on the 1st of June and full term now technically so they treat me with caution . I did try the gargle with salt it helped slightly just making the pain go away for a bit .

Mistymeow · 15/05/2023 07:14

@Zaalfruit I have periodontitis (severe gum disease) so I know all about bleeding gums, you have my sympathies! I had treatment last year and fortunately haven’t had bleeding this pregnancy. But I highly recommend a hygienist and to go private if you can afford it (I went with Bupa). If this isn’t possible you can use corsodyl mouthwash which should help ease the symptoms. I also use the interdental brushes and a gum brush which stops any bacteria/plaque forming which makes bleeding worse (might be very sore at first though). Careful using corsodyl as it can stain the teeth if overused. Not an easy fix but hopefully all will settle once baby is here!

dresslol · 15/05/2023 07:14

@Zaalfruit gosh, due the 1st June, it’s all really happening now!
I’ve got an ECV appointment on Tuesday, the thing where they try to turn the baby from breech to head down, there’s a low risk of needing a c-section on the day or of labour starting soon after so I’ve got today to get everything ready, haven’t even packed my hospital bag yet!
Hope you’re feeling ok in this last bit of time.

Fredthespider · 15/05/2023 08:24

@Zaalfruit trying to get a dentist is so frustrating right now. I believe you can call 111 and they will be able to get you an emergency appointment (hopefully locally!) as they have a rota of dentists who take on emergency cases.

I’m seeing my dentist on Wednesday for my 4th filling in 6 months 😫 plus a clean which is much needed. They originally advised me to go and see the hygienist but they cost £70. Thankfully now they’re going to do it under the NHS free cover.

Fredthespider · 15/05/2023 08:25

@dresslol fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Hlc86 · 15/05/2023 10:43

Well they have sent me home, they have managed to stop my contractions and my waters are still intact so they are confident she will stay in for at least another week (touch wood) I've been put on bed rest for a week which is a killer for me but needs must and I'm so glad I am home as I actually managed to get sleep last night. Things for hospital bag, definitely snacks and drinks as the food is awful and I wouldn't bother if anyone is taking a dressing gown as the wards are so so hot, I sat in my bra and nickers most the time 😂

firsttimelondonmummy · 15/05/2023 11:48

@Zaalfruit private dentists usually have better availability.
Might be worth giving some a call?
I think my hygiene and cleans were around £80 a go but so worth it!

So much dentist talk. The sore gums sounds awful and we can't take anything like nurofen liquid tabs can we ! Poor you, I hope you get it sorted. I've got an appointment tomorrow to have the side wall of my molar re built. I've had an issue with that tooth for a couple of years and he patched it up around 12 months ago but I have severe dental anxiety so the appointment tomorrow is all I can think of. I just really hope he is able to patch it up again for now.
For those saying they can't get any dental appointments we really struggled getting DS and my DH in anywhere but finally somewhere local opened up their waiting list and it's about 2 weeks for an appt there. I'm fortunate in that I am on denplan and can usually get same day for any issues if necessary so that might also be a shout? Something like Bupa or Denplan?

I've been doing some more hospital bag packing today. Done the "spares" bag for the boot of the car!
