Batch cooking 100%. With my first I made two weeks worth of meals in advance and froze them, it was such a lifesaver! Doing it again this time.

FLA92 · 12/05/2023 19:24

@Algor1thm what sort of thing did you batch cook?

I am worried about how much bigger the baby is going to get! She already moves / rolls around so much it can be really uncomfortable and she pokes out of my belly so much when she moves sometimes!

Does everyone else find that?

I got kicked in the ribs so hard it took my breath away yesterday and I’m 34 weeks so still have a bit to go…!

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 20:42

You are all so good with the batch cooking thing! My friend did that too and said it was really good for the first couple weeks. We have a small upright fridge freezer and there is zero space in the freezer so batch cooking isn't an option for us unfortunately. We are also terrible at taking things out to defrost and really bad at changing our mind on what we want for tea lol.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 12/05/2023 21:03

My freezer is stocked. I've made bolognaise, fish pies, cottage pies, curry's and veg stews.
Maternity leave started today. Cat celebrated by delivering me a mouse!

Seeing the consultant Monday so will have a better idea of how long I will have before bubs arrives.

tigerlily0 · 12/05/2023 21:08

Iv been looking for disposable maternity underwear. I had some for my other 2 births. Similar to incontinence ones, I thought incontinence ones don't work for period/bleeding? Or is it the other way around.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 12/05/2023 21:23

Oh and a reminder. Fathers day is June 18th. I have pre ordered DH's card and gift. Its his first and I want to mark it.

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 22:14

@DrinkingAllTheGin I need to sort Father's Day !

I wasn't sure if they had to be period pants rather than incontinence pants either.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 12/05/2023 22:16

I used Tena pants during my miscarriage and they worked fine. I've bought more for post birth.

Belami · 12/05/2023 22:20

What did you get him @DrinkingAllTheGin ? Ive been looking on Etsy for something cute for dh today 🥰

PurBal · 12/05/2023 22:28

@tigerlily0 ooo you may be educating me. I could find regular disposable ones (described as maternity briefs) that you can then put a pad in but couldn’t specifically find maternity ones with the pad. The incontinence ones seem to have a pad and I saw a blogger from the US using Always ones. I’ll have to open the pack to see. I did use regular incontinence pads after a week or so with DS1 as a relative had some spare and they were thicker that sanitary pads.

tigerlily0 · 12/05/2023 22:38

Yea I think I read u can use incontinence ones as period pants but can't use period pads as incontinence ones. I remember getting maternity ones , but that was like 8 years ago. I might just get incontinence ones and add pads inside them. I only bled for like 10 days anyway, don't remember bleeding for very long

firsttimelondonmummy · 13/05/2023 00:16

@Mistymeow thank you for sharing, that is reassuring 🙏🏻
I’m so glad all was ok with your little one ❤️

So update

I'm still in hospital, it took ages to be seen in fact I was left in one room for 7 hours without seeing a soul, but nevermind

I had tightings and pains all day and night when I was hooked onto the monitor, they done this swap on me which was so uncomfortable I could have cried, if it comes back negitive you are not likely to go into labour in the next 2 week but if it comes back positive you have a 50/50 chance of going into labour in the next week.. So of course mine came back positive, then they all started to panic, said how I was too small bump measuring only 28cm so sent me off for an emergency scan, baby is on the small side but just within the 10th, then they had discovered she has now flipped again to transverse so then they panicked about that saying she would have to be born via c - section. So I had 1 steroid jab at 8pm last night (that was bloody horrid I won't lie) and I'm due to have another one at 8pm tonight, and then they said I might be able to go home? The pains have eased off so I'm hoping so. Just a heads up the wards are hotter than ever I couldn't sleep as was so so hot and uncomfortable and the lady next to be was bouncing on her ball most the night 😂. I'm hoping baby stays in for at least another week so she can mature her lungs and develop abit more, she's esitamted at 3lb at the moment so hasn't grown much since my 28 growth scan, but we will have to see 😢. Sorry for the long post

Algor1thm · 13/05/2023 06:38

Bolognese, curry, soup, stew... that sort of stuff that freezes well. Then freeze it 2 portions at a time so you can just take a meal out and dinner is served. I can't recommend it highly enough - you don't want to be thinking what's for dinner immediately post partum.

@Hlc86 oh wow, wishing you all the best! Glad you've had the steroids now so baby will be ready whenever they make an appearance.

Fredthespider · 13/05/2023 06:55

@Hlc86 thanks for updating us! Sorry it’s not better news but I’m glad they’re being thorough and getting baby ready. Fingers crossed the scan is a little off on the measurements and that she stays put a little longer xx

Ally1992 · 13/05/2023 07:01

Hope everything is ok and you get to go home soon @Hlc86 is that a definite that it will
be a c-section now?

Hlc86 · 13/05/2023 07:16

Thank you ladies, means alot 😘.

@Ally1992 if she goes head down again I could potentially deliver vaginally but won't know untill later when the doctor comes in this morning, which will probably be midnight tonight 😂 knowing them

BobbySD345 · 13/05/2023 07:26

@Hlc86 Sorry to hear you're going through all this ! I had the preterm labour swab too. Apparently if it comes back positive but they want baby to stay in there a bit longer they can use something to try and keep him/her snug a bit longer? It's a clever test! Mine was negative so I knew I had a couple of weeks without her making an appearance. That ends on Monday but midwife said she isn't engaged yet. The units are Boiling aren't they. I remember with DS1 I was literally in a vest and pants the entire time and didn't care if people saw my backside to and from the toilet lol. I've packed short and vest PJs this time and not bothering with a dressing gown.

BobbySD345 · 13/05/2023 07:29

@Hlc86 Hopefully the doctor will see you this morning and not keep you waiting too long 🤞🏻 Don't worry too much about their size estimate, they got it wrong with our DS. It is so difficult once you are past a certain point for them to assess how big baby is.

C1umsyGiraffe · 13/05/2023 07:33

@Hlc86 hope you ge to go home soon! Sounds so stressful :( fingers crossed baby stays in there a little while longer!

Batch cooking sounds great, need to make some room in the freezer 😂

I've got some incontinence pads and some disposable underwear and pads just in case. Thought I was doing well at keeping the bag quite small but I keep finding things to add 😂

ireneadler101 · 13/05/2023 07:37

@Hlc86 - if it's any comfort, exactly the same thing happened to me in my first pregnancy (positive fibronectin swab, lots of tightenings, steroid injections) at about 34 weeks but I didn't end up going into labour! Baby was delivered at 36w by c section as he was measuring small (less than 5th centile) but he was perfectly healthy and is now a very energetic 2.5yr old! I hope it all goes well for you x

Mistymeow · 13/05/2023 08:19

@Hlc86 ahh sorry to hear you are in hospital earlier than anticipated. I had similar with my first, small baby and transverse (although no early labour signs). They are more likely to move transverse when they are small because they have room to move. I actually found the second lot of steroids nowhere near as bad as the first so hopefully you will be the same. Just to warn you with a transverse baby they often don’t allow you to leave hospital in case of cord prolapse during labour (but this is very rare). The good thing is they’re fully aware and will take great care of you and baby and won’t take any risks. My baby is transverse again so I’m likely to be admitted from 37 weeks until c section at 38. Hope you can get some rest x

Hlc86 · 13/05/2023 08:19

Thank you all for your messages they are bringing me lots of reassurance, my next jab is at 8.34 pm tonight apparently (very precise) so I hope I will know more answers then, I feel OK in myself today tho and feel very guilty about taking up a bed. There is one of the partners in the bed next to me and he has been snoring his head off since 8pm last night! How to men manage to sleep through everything, his poor partner was crying in pain at one point too 😣

dresslol · 13/05/2023 08:57

@Hlc86 what a lot to go through, hope baby flips the right way round and you get to go home soon.
I had a routine scan yesterday and baby is wrong way round. Ugh, I was totally unprepared for this as she’s been in the right position for a couple of months now. I have to go for an ECV on Tuesday afternoon, when the dr tries to manually turn the baby. I’m getting anxious. There’s a 1 in 200 chance of ending up in an emergency c-section that day.
If she doesn’t move it looks like a c-section. I’m not happy!
also very jealous of all you organised peeps with batch cooking completed! Very impressive. Will have to try to get some done too

Belami · 13/05/2023 10:02

@Hlc86 oh bless you lovely, that sounds stressful. Glad you're in good hands though! Are you on a ward with labouring women then? I bet your so tired with all that noise going on around you. Hope your pains continue to subside ❤️

@dresslol sorry to hear that, isn't there still time for bebe to move into the right position? Did they ask if you'd prefer a manual turn or c-section? Hoping she moves by herself 🤞
