@firsttimelondonmummy I'm 33 weeks coming up to 34 weeks and we installed the car seat a couple of weeks back. We also built the moses basket and next2me at the weekend. Mainly did it to get our 3yo used to the idea of him sharing his space with a new addition though ! Get sorted whenever you're ready! It's exciting x

Ephesus1010 · 11/05/2023 23:31

35 weeks, first pregnancy (IVF) and went to get checked on Tuesday as had period like cramps and back ache. Braxton Hicks are here! Baby is breech so her moving her head up and under my ribs is making it more uncomfortable I think. Lots of people saying to me that she is getting ready to make an early appearance but I'm terrified of going into labour when she's breech as would prefer a c section if she's still in this position. Got midwife app tomorrow and a 37 week scan to check position and consultant saying if head down then they would recommend an induction at 40 weeks due to IVF. Feeling a big overwhelmed at the moment tbh having had a fairly good pregnancy and been feeling excited. Just trying to not let the anxious thoughts take over!

PurBal · 12/05/2023 05:53

@BobbySD345 we have just moved our 22mo into a “big boy bed” for similar reasons. Whilst the baby will be in with us to begin with I didn’t want DS to feel like he was “losing” his bed or anything. Really struggling to get the idea of a sibling through to him, and I’m worried about how he’ll cope. We bought a story (he’s not interested), and I talk about the baby in my tummy, but he seems nonplussed. Nanny friend has suggested bringing it up in everyday conversation more so going to try that.
@Ephesus1010 I can understood why you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s all getting so close too. One step at a time.

Kelvie103 · 12/05/2023 06:16

@Ephesus1010 it's my first pregnancy via IVF too and I've been told the same about an induction at 40 weeks if he's not here by then. I'm not really sure why, there seems to be alot of mixed info out there. One consultant I saw didn't say much about it the other said it depends on the doctor but she personally would recommend it. Just hoping I go into labour naturally before then as I heard an induction makes it more painful. Hope your baby turns. I think at my hospital a breech baby always means a c section.

Ephesus1010 · 12/05/2023 06:25

@Kelvie103 the consultant that mentioned it said that the hospital usually recommends it with IVF as their view is there was obviously something stopping us getting pregnant in the first place so they just want to make sure baby arrives safely. But she did also say I didn't have to go for it etc etc so I think if I get to that point and everything is still just fine then I would decline. Especially as our infertility was never fully explained, and my pregnancy has been pretty straightforward, so I have no reason to think that there would be anything to worry about at 40 weeks. Hope you're doing well though - I still can't believe its actually happening tbh so I think as it gets nearer that's why I'm feeling a bit more overwhelmed!

@PurBal thank you 😘😘😘

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 06:54

@PurBal it's a good about moving him now because there is likely a bit of disruption as he gets used to it I'm afraid. Better now than when baby is here. We still have occasions where our DS sneaks into our bed (he did at 1am and 5am this morning as he has the freedom to wander in and out since moving from a cot). We left it as late as possible as he isn't a climber so he was in a cot until around 4 months ago and he's 3.5. We knew we had to do it before baby arrived and it's something new and exciting for them isn't it.
Your Son is much younger but yes agreed keep talking every day, just pass small comments. Do you know the gender ? "Baby sister might like this" "do you think baby brother will watch iggle piggle too?" "I wonder whether the baby will like to play with this". Things your Son can easily associate with. It's easier for us as DS is older but he will now often come out with lines like "baby sister will like to share my snacks" "baby sister won't have my blankets, she can have her own" unprompted. We also try and get him to cuddle my tummy and listen to her and we have involved him in folding clothes and socks etc into her drawers (he loves sorting) and building her crib. He chose a teddy for her and he is looking after it until she comes (we will see if he does give it up...!) I wrote an essay there sorry but hopefully some of it helps.

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 06:59

I finally had my 28 week midwife appointment yesterday (I'm almost 34...) and all was apparently fine. Baby is head down but lying to one side. They said they don't worry about position until 36 weeks and even then there is time for her to move/be moved.
I'm a bit anxious because first baby I had GD and had consultants and scans every 2 weeks at this stage and was told I'd be induced at 38 weeks. He came at 37 but I always knew there was a plan if that makes sense. This time I'm just.left to it and the idea of going past 38 weeks being uncomfortable and just waiting and waiting is so unappealing to me. Especially as the PGP seems to be getting worse and worse! I'm hoping they give me an idea of her size at some point as I tore badly with DS and he was only 6lb9oz. I've been told ill tear again in the same place 🥺

AngelBlue12 · 12/05/2023 09:14

@BobbySD345 i tore really badly with DD1. But only a tiny tear that didn’t need stitches with DD2 and she was waaaayyyy bigger! Try not to worry

Hlc86 · 12/05/2023 09:29

I tore badly with my daughter and then had to be cut as she was a forceps delivery and weighed 6lb, they assure me I won't tear this time but it is a worry of mine.

I'm currently on route to the hospital as been having period like cramps since 3am this morning and back ache and she hasn't wiggled much since they started so they want me to go get checked over, I'm 34 weeks today

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 09:43

@AngelBlue12 thank-you! That's definitely reassured me!

Fredthespider · 12/05/2023 10:04

Hope she starts wriggling for you soon @Hlc86 xx

firsttimelondonmummy · 12/05/2023 10:38

So all, update on the midwife front.
She was actually nice today.
Said even if I hadn’t had a private scan to show he was measuring small she would have sent me for a growth scan as my bump is 30/31cm and I should be 34/35cm (no surprise as I’ve known I’ve got a tiny bump for weeks).
Growth scan booked for Monday so just keeping everything crossed he’s a healthy but small baby 🤞🏻💙

Hope everything is ok @Hlc86 🤞🏻❤️

I’ve had my induction date through for next week, I’ll be 37+1. Feeling very weird now knowing this will be the last weekend just me and my partner and don’t know what to do with myself 😅

rllrsk8 · 12/05/2023 12:44

@firsttimelondonmummy try not to worry, small bump doesn't necessarily mean small baby, just as big bump doesn't necessarily mean big baby, as I found out! And then again is seems like when the baby arrives the measured size is all wrong, anyway! Glad it was a more positive appointment today and that she's sent you for a scan though, hopefully give you some reassurance that everything is ok.

Fredthespider · 12/05/2023 12:50

@rllrsk8 I’m hoping that’s the case for me, I’ve been measuring up at the 90th the whole time when my last two were always around the 50th. I’m a bit worried this one is going to be a beast! Last ones were 7lb and 8lb.

PurBal · 12/05/2023 13:19

@BobbySD345 my midwife said you’re less likely to tear with subsequent babies.

@Hlc86 hope all is well. Thinking of you.

@firsttimelondonmummy glad that it was a better experience this time! I agree that small bump doesn’t equal small baby. Keeping you in my thoughts.

@Ally1992 you must be so excited!!!

firsttimelondonmummy · 12/05/2023 13:44

@rllrsk8 @PurBal unfortunately in his case it does as we had it confirmed earlier in the week in a private scan he had dropped from the 50th (28 weeks) to the 12th percentile (33 weeks).
Just hoping all is well with him and he’s just a small baby which runs in the family 🤞🏻💙

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 13:46

@Ally1992 eek so exciting!!

@PurBal fingers crossed on the tear front 🙈 I've bought all the bits in readiness like Peri bottle, witch Hazel pads etc.

I also got some absolutely enormous Sanitary towels that I saw on Amazon and everyone raves about them because its basically like wearing padded pants or a nappy. I can put the link if anyone is interested.

PurBal · 12/05/2023 13:47

@BobbySD345 please do, I bought some incontinence underwear…

Belami · 12/05/2023 13:49

Oh wow!! Why are you being induced again @Ally1992 ?? Sooo exciting!!! 🥰

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2023 14:48

@PurBal I heard those black incontinence underwear are a good shout. I keep forgetting to pick some up. These are the pads I got...

Check this out! amzn.eu/d/h6VUqyw

Ally1992 · 12/05/2023 17:19

Thanks everyone I’m very excited!!

@Belami I have type 1 diabetes and it’s recommended at 37 weeks as the placenta doesn’t do very well in the last few weeks.

I’m nearly done washing his clothes, moses basket sheets etc. going to batch cook some stuff over the weekend and clean the house as much as my body will allow! Anyone have any other recommendations to get prepared?

rllrsk8 · 12/05/2023 17:33

@Ally1992 I've been clearing some space on my phone ready to take lots of photos and videos - a little job you can do with your feet up!!

Took my car to be cleaned, inside and out

Stocked up on any household stuff like washing liquid in preparation for lots of laundry (and bought more pegs for all the small clothes!!)

Next on my list is to buy some birthday cards and presents for family as we have lots of June birthdays already so going to get that done now.

And don't forget to do some things you enjoy doing that you might have less time for soon!

Mistymeow · 12/05/2023 18:36

@firsttimelondonmummy just to reassure you in my first pregnancy baby dropped centiles a fair bit in the third trimester, and at the 36 week scan she had stopped growing. I had her by C section at 37 weeks and in her case the scans were accurate, she was a tiny 4lb 8oz. Perfectly healthy and soon caught up, and no NICU. They think her static growth was because I had a small placenta. It’s really good they are scanning you, they won’t take any risks and I’m sure all will be well x
