@BobbySD345 @tigerlily0 I had some really good advice from my Bump & Baby midwife and did a plan for all types of birth (water, natural no water, instrumental and c section) and wrote what my preferences were and deal breakers in all scenarios and made my partner learn each incase I’m a bit out of it.
I am a control freak and so wanted to have as much control as possible even if I didn’t get plan A and ended up at plan D.
Having this will help me personally to keep calm even if things don’t go to plan as I know they often don’t.
Might not work for every one but worth mentioning incase 😊

@tigerlily0 @Algor1thm @BobbySD345 thank you! I don't have a birthing centre near me, it's just a hospital with access to a birthing pool so I may not even get change to use it if someone else is in it tbf .

I would like to start in there though as I say, having a nice warm bath always does wonders for me generally so I thought it may help!

@Belami gas and air is fine for water births 😊

That's so good to know 🥰 thank you

Anyone else having pains? I had 3 hours of period cramps on and off last night including back pain. Had to take paracetamol. I said to DH “I’m not in active labour, but this is something and could be the start”. All stopped now but wondering if this is likely to come and go over the coming days/weeks? MW very unhelpful, I think I wanted reassurance and she said I needed to go in to be assessed if it happened again and that “braxton hicks shouldn’t hurt” (I know). DC1 22mo was in bed and I knew I wasn’t in labour but also only 35+2 so I guess I just wanted to be told “this is in the realms of normal”. Didn’t have any braxton hicks or pains prior to waters breaking with DC1 (although I did lose my mucus plug) so I feel this is outside my knowledge.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 10/05/2023 16:48

@PurBal my back has been aching for days. I took 1 paracetamol last night and another today. I am a FTM so no clues as to what the early signs of labour might be but at 35 + 2 I'm hoping it is not yet!

Hlc86 · 10/05/2023 18:00

I've been getting the pains and back ache for the last few weeks I would say, like you I didn't have any braxton hicks with my first daughter but this time round I get them alot, they are very uncomfortable and sometimes my tummy goes so tight it feels like it will rip 😣

Algor1thm · 10/05/2023 18:27

I've been having lots of BH for weeks and they definitely can hurt. Some of mine have been quite intense, and clearly I haven't been in labour as baby isn't here yet. I'd only go in to be assessed if they were regular and getting closer together.

Algor1thm · 10/05/2023 18:27

Meant to tag you @PurBal

I'm a FTM so I'm not 100% sure what I should be feeling but since this morning I've had symptoms you get just before your period is due, like a low mild ache and "warm" feelings on and off. I've also had such a bad back for about a week now. Baby has noticeably dropped in the past 10/14 days....

I've had Braxton Hicks for a few weeks now and this feels completely different.

I'm 35+5 so hoping they sit tight for a little longer!

BobbySD345 · 10/05/2023 19:47

@PurBal it irritates me how unhelpful midwives can be in these kinds of situations. If you take my 1st pregnancy for example, I had Braxton Hicks type tightenings for 3 days leading up to my waters going and then once the waters had gone, I got to 6cm without any pain, just the Braxton style tightenings. It was nothing like what I thought it would be re labour pains. I have had some not very nice pains recently and considered going in but after moving about a bit, going for a walk, it's stopped. I think if it stops with a change in position or movement and/or pain relief, you're safe that it's probably baby in a funny position or maybe trapped wind. But any nasty pains that continue for hours you should go and get seen !

Funfamilytimes · 10/05/2023 21:37

@PurBal I’m having the exact same. Braxton hicks brought on by the baby moving I think. But yep painful! And I have to stop walking with it because of the pressure or lean back in my chair. My fiancé is getting very bored of me saying “feel how hard my tummy is!”

PurBal · 11/05/2023 07:51

@Funfamilytimes @BobbySD345 @hanc66 @Algor1thm @Hlc86 thanks for
your replies, not had the really bad cramps since and feeling reassured hearing from you all.

justbelieve · 11/05/2023 12:56

I posted a couple of weeks ago about baby being breech - had my 34 week scan today and he’s head down!! Hoping he stays that way now 🤞🏻I bounced on the ball lots throughout the day (used it when working) and started walking the dog more; not sure if that helped, but sharing as I know there were a few of us with breech babes!

He is measuring a bit big, so have another scan for 37 weeks and then consultant will advise options regarding whether an induction is recommended etc… all feeling very real 🙈

rllrsk8 · 11/05/2023 17:11

@justbelieve great news about baby turning! Agree it's starting to feel very real. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow and have consultant appointment next week to discuss being induced. Just going to ask lots of questions about the benefits and risks of being induced or not as I don't really want to be induced, but will see what they say!

firsttimelondonmummy · 11/05/2023 18:05

Hey all,
I currently have a number of things in storage (my prams, car seats, rocker etc).
When would you all get these out & install the car seat etc?
I’m currently 34 weeks for reference.

OP posts:
dresslol · 11/05/2023 18:17

@rllrsk8 if you get the chance I’d recommend reading, ‘In your own time’ as it is a really thorough study of induction. I am seeing a consultant due to being over 40 but with no other risk factors and I have refused an induction at 40 weeks unless a medical reason arises in the meantime.

PurBal · 11/05/2023 20:19

@firsttimelondonmummy I am 35+3 and just got stuff down from the loft today. Probably be another week by the time I’ve washed the car seat covers / Moses basket sheets etc.

Yay @justbelieve

firsttimelondonmummy · 11/05/2023 20:23

Thanks @PurBal so as I thought around 4 weeks before I’m due.
I’m so impatient and just want it all home now 😂

OP posts:
Funfamilytimes · 11/05/2023 20:43

@firsttimelondonmummy I did it all really early because of the nesting phase. Really good job too because our newborn car seat was broken so we’ve had to order a new one. The cot is already up and waiting… but I think I’m probably being a bit keen really. Hoping they’ll come early and all that 😂

DrinkingAllTheGin · 11/05/2023 21:05

I'm 35 weeks and we fitted the car seat at the weekend. As we are first timers we wanted to be able to practice getting it in and out!
The nursery is pretty much ready and all my clothes are washed.
I finish work tomorrow. No idea what I'm going to do with my time!

rllrsk8 · 11/05/2023 21:23

We fitted the car seat and built the next to me crib earlier this week at 36 weeks (After I'd taken my car for a wash and valet at my local Asda - £20 well spent because there's no way I'm up to vacuuming inside my car at the moment!)

But I think you should do it whenever you are ready - if it makes you feel prepared and you have space then go for it!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 11/05/2023 21:28

We live in a flat. Will use the next to me crib at night, but where would you put baby for day time sleep? In the crib, or somewhere in the living room? Can I put them in the nursery crib? Obviously with door open. So confusing

rllrsk8 · 11/05/2023 21:32

dresslol · 11/05/2023 18:17

@rllrsk8 if you get the chance I’d recommend reading, ‘In your own time’ as it is a really thorough study of induction. I am seeing a consultant due to being over 40 but with no other risk factors and I have refused an induction at 40 weeks unless a medical reason arises in the meantime.

@dresslol Thankyou so much for sharing - our appointment next week is for the same reason but also don't have other risk factors and so far everything has been pretty smooth (touch wood), so I'm happy to talk about it but reluctant to agree without good reason. Of course don't want to put myself or baby at risk but there's definitely plenty of good reasons not to be induced.

Hope all goes well for you for the last few weeks, not long to go now!

firsttimelondonmummy · 11/05/2023 21:32

@Funfamilytimes I built everything as it arrived so I could check it was all functional so it’s just a case of picking it all up.
But yeah I’ve been nesting for weeks 😂

@DrinkingAllTheGin we have a Moses basket for the living room.
Supposedly the closer to you the better for a better sleep.

OP posts:
BobbySD345 · 11/05/2023 23:19

@DrinkingAllTheGin I think when newborn you need baby in the same room as you. We have a moses basket and a sleepyhead for the living room and a hauck alpha bassinet/highchair for the kitchen which she can sleep in so she is always with us x
