34 weeks today. Apparently I'm 'so small'. Three times iv heard this just this week. I was smaller than this with my first and he was 8lb 2. I literally never comment on womens prego bellies, I know ppl don't mean it in a nasty way but it makes you feel like you have to justify ur pregnant self!

I don't think you look small! People say such unhelpful things, why do they feel the need to comment on bump size?! I often get told I have a "neat" bump, I think people mean it as a compliment but it's weird, and unhelpful as my last baby was born early as he was not growing as he should I don't want to hear that my bump is "small" or "neat".

Has anyone else found that their bump is getting a bit more uncomfortable now, sometimes a bit sore? I'm finding the Braxton Hicks a bit more uncomfortable than I was (but not painful) - they make me squirm about in bed when they happen 😂. I don't tend to notice them in the day but I'm the evenings they are quite frequent.

AstroH · 19/04/2023 21:32

@tigerlily0 your bump looks perfect to me. Spot on for 34 weeks and very neat.

I have a scan tomorrow at 8.15(!) because I’ve been in twice for reduced fetal movement. Baby was absolutely fine both times I went in (including yesterday) so hoping everything is okay but still a little bit anxious.

C1umsyGiraffe · 20/04/2023 06:33

@ireneadler101 my MIL said my bump was near the other day but she actually said "you've got such a neat bump right now" ...almost implying it'll look un-neat later? Was so unsure how to take that 😂

Hlc86 · 20/04/2023 08:49

Hey ladies, still got an upset tummy today but think it's more bug than pregnancy related, midwife told me to just drink plenty and get plenty of rest (easier said than done 😂) so I've had a couple of days off work which they have been absolutely fine about as they know I'm not one to call in sick, so currently laying in bed with a coffee and a rich tea biccie. Question has anyone else packed their other half's a change of clothes in their hospital bag? When I told my mum I had she looked at me as if I was nuts 😂

Kelvie103 · 20/04/2023 09:20

@Hlc86 I think my husband is planning to take his own bag! Our nct leader suggested partners take a spare t-shirt and a toothbrush and plenty of snacks and drinks for themselves.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/04/2023 09:47

@Hlc86 I had the idea to pack DH a bag. Flask of tea, t-shirt, antiperspirant, snacks. Obviously we never got to use it as all happened so fast. DH instead sat beside my bed for 10 hours not eating or drinking just panicking. I kept telling him to go get a coffee whilst I was drugged up on gas and air and epidural but he refused to leave me. I don't think he would have used hospital bag I would have packed him. Definitely a charger for phone though as his phone ran out of charge after being awake 36 hours. I sent him home to wash and sleep whilst I was moved to ward as pointless him being there.

DD has gained back to her birth weight at least now. She's 3.2lb yesterday. They told me if I bring her in some clothes she can come out of the incubator and go in a small crib instead. I've had to order some 3lb clothes from Next to pick up today as nowhere has them in stock in store. 5lb clothes bury her!

firsttimelondonmummy · 20/04/2023 10:02

I’d be extremely concerned if my partner couldn’t/ didn’t pack his own bag for hospital.
I’ve told mine what I think he will need but as a grown man and so I trust that he’s more than capable of packing for himself as he does for holidays etc.
I’d advise asking your partner to read ‘make your birth better’ if you think he’s going to be panicked/ a flapper when the time comes as no one needs that in labour 😭

As a grown man, I trust *

My DH has never had a hospital bag, he’s shared my charger and I’ve always popped a bottle of water in for him but other than that it’s never been needed.

My biggest tip for first time mums is that there will probably be a point around transition that you will struggle to focus on what the midwives are saying to you, at this point your DH’s voice will cut through the fog so prep him before hand that if you seem unresponsive to what they are saying for him to repeat it to you. It’s amazing the difference it makes.

Mamma2bee · 20/04/2023 10:18

this is a bit TMI but anyone experiencing loose stools at the minute? I’m near 32 weeks and bit worried about early labour - had a bloody show, have dropped and have the urge to go to the toilet (solidly) all the time and actually am going about 3 times a day. Sorry definitely TMI but just wondering if anyone else in same boat?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 20/04/2023 10:53

Tbf the only reason DH panicked was because my blood pressure dropped and dropped DD's heart rate so we were surrounded by doctors about to rush me for caesarean. Then also afterwards when the placenta was stuck and they were preparing me for the surgery. He went through this with DD1 and I know it brought back all the memories for him again. I didn't notice, I was in and out of it mostly. He did flap though when the midwife told him to press the emergency button and he was like Which one???? 😅She just ran out into the hallway instead to shout for help.

BobbySD345 · 20/04/2023 12:49

@Kelvie103 @Hlc86 I'm laughing at the spare tshirt advice as I'm sure it's more from a "they might want to freshen up" approach which makes perfect sense but in our case it would have been even more handy given I grabbed him so hard when in established labour with our DS that I tore it 🤣🤪

Fredthespider · 20/04/2023 14:22

Last time we had a ‘take into the hospital’ bag and an ‘if we’re still here’ bag that we just kept in the car. It meant it was accessible but also not in the way.

Snacks for your birth partner are the main thing I’d suggest. My husband started eating my snacks towards the end of labour. I was NOT impressed and he’s frankly lucky to be alive. He knows this time that my snacks are mine and he needs to sort himself out.

Belami · 20/04/2023 14:48

Sorry just coming on here to have a little moan as I feel so boring repeating myself to everyone irl!!

But hows everyone been sleeping at the moment?? Literally up so much in the night , got so fed up last night at 3am I felt a bit like I was going to cry 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ started dreading going to bed!!

I have pgp so probably why it's so uncomfortable, my hip and my bump just go completely dead after laying on them for an hour, my lower back constantly kills and omg the pain in my public bone when I roll over 😅 jeeeeeesus. Constantly feel like a need a wee when I don't. It's horrendous!! Lol roll on 9th June!!!

Fredthespider · 20/04/2023 14:57

@Mamma2bee sorry I meant to reply to you too! I’ve been having loose stools, but if you’ve also had a bloody show I’d say it’s worth getting in touch with your midwife to be safe. I know you can lose your plug and regrow it, but if you’ve had bleeding with it too I’d get checked out.

BobbySD345 · 20/04/2023 15:23

Has anyone sought advice on Braxton hicks recently and can share what they were told? I've been getting tightenings for the last few days that last about 10 seconds ish but they're every couple of minutes for as long as I'm sat still to monitor them. I thought braxton hicks was just a few random times in the day you get a tightening. It's making me feel a bit sick and uncomfortable and I wasn't sure if i was meant to go get checked out ?!

Hlc86 · 20/04/2023 15:52

@BellaTheDarkOverlord so glad she is back to her birth weight and she can go in a crib, bet you're counting down the days you can bring her home.

Thanks for all the suggestions re other half's bag, I've just put a change of clothes, toothbrush and antiperspirant in with my bag as mines quite big 😂. He won't be a flapper when I'm in labour if anything he will be too chilled and that will probably annoy me 😂.

@Mamma2bee I would say if you have had a bloody show then to contact your midwife, might be best to get checked out?

@BobbySD345 I'm currently the same re the braxton hicks, I didn't think they was supposed to be as frequent as they are and I never had them at all with my first daughter

BobbySD345 · 20/04/2023 15:58

@Hlc86 I had them with my DS (I think) for about 4 days before he was born. They didn't hurt they just felt like tightening across my belly button. They would happen every 5 mins or so initially and I started to write them down but then on day 4 my waters went (I was 37+2). I never did ask whether they were BH or the start of actual contractions so now I don't know the difference. Just feels a bit odd to have them this frequently like every 2 mins or so but I am only 31 weeks.

PurBal · 20/04/2023 16:50

DH took a spare t shirt with DC1. And it’s a good job because the first meconium poo happened down him…
Had placenta placement scan today and all well out of the way! Also got a cute scan photo of his little face 🥰

DrinkingAllTheGin · 20/04/2023 20:30

@Belami sleep? What is sleep?
DH has a cold and sounds like a chain saw, the cat likes to climb on me, at 3am, and I have the worst restless legs.
Last night I split my time between fruitlessly trying to sleep in bed, having yet another wee, and the sofa.
DH did say he would take the sofa but was so deeply asleep I couldn't wake him.
He is away Friday and Saturday nights so I can starfish (as much as I can right now) and have a peaceful couple of nights. Can't do anything about the cat though!

toomanysausages · 21/04/2023 04:52

@Mamma2bee would suggest contacting midwife just due to bloody show.

Braxton hicks a lot of the time. If I hold a wee, after a wee, when I pick something up, vacuuming/mopping, general tidying. Sometimes just sitting about! I don't know if they annoy baby too as sometimes she'll have a squirm afterwards!!

Belami · 21/04/2023 10:34

@DrinkingAllTheGin bless you 💗 I feel for you with the restless legs and the cat situation . My fur baby just wants to sleep on my stomach at night and I constantly have to move her off as it's already uncomfortable without her adding her weight to it 🤣 I had to shut her out of the room the other night & that's really not like me.

Me and dh have slept in separate beds for ages now and I still can't get comfortable:(

@toomanysausages I get them like this too! It just feels like my tummy has gone hard. Get them a lot when I have a shower

firsttimelondonmummy · 21/04/2023 14:27

Is anyone feeling great and enjoying this last trimester?
I feel like it’s often a bit doom and gloom on here and feel awkward posting when I’m not having any issues (touch wood) and enjoying pregnancy.
I obviously feel awful for anyone having issues but it would be nice to see some positive posting/ mums to be loving life and to feel like there are people that can relate on the other side of the spectrum.

Mamma2bee · 21/04/2023 14:35

@firsttimelondonmummy I go between feeling great and then miserable and awkward about 10 times a day lol! We had our 31 week appointment yesterday and I felt great, was able to sit waiting for an hour, felt petite and comfortable and happy and just in a wee bubble...then wee man started rib kicking at bedtime which changed the mood ever so slightly
