@Baby3herewego good, I feel a bit guilty posting here sometimes with everyone else going through what they are as if it wasn’t for feeling him kick and my bump I genuinely wouldn’t know I was pregnant.
How are you getting on?

OP posts:
Baby3herewego · 17/04/2023 15:46

I’m fairly good. Have a few dizzy/fainting episodes last week. Acid reflux has stared to kick my butt and hits hard at night which has kept me from sleeping but other than that all is good.

Hlc86 · 17/04/2023 16:52

Has anyone else been getting the braxton hicks tightings? This last week they have been hitting me hard and my whole tummy goes so tight you can practically see the outline of baby 😅, I never got these with my first and can't say I'm enjoying them

C1umsyGiraffe · 17/04/2023 17:19

Just had my 31 week appointment and measuring 2 weeks behind so have now been put in for a growth scan because I'm small! Last time I had one because I was big, hard to keep up 😂😂 but I'll definitely take an extra scan if e gets to make sure she's happy and healthy!

DrinkingAllTheGin · 17/04/2023 17:43

I've got my 32 week scan and consultant tomorrow morning. At my last midwife appointment, last week, bubs was transverse. Hoping they have moved!
Tomorrow they are checking to see if my placenta has moved from blocking the exit snd checking growth as I'm an older mum.

toomanysausages · 17/04/2023 17:43

@Hlc86 yes! I think they're horrible! I have been getting them for a little while now but just a few times a day - don't you find it quite uncomfortable? I was sick twice this morning which brought them on too. Wonderful start to the week 🤣

Hoppyhops · 17/04/2023 18:16

I’m glad I’m not the only one doing renovations. We’ve had our walls knocked through and our kitchen being totally remodelled. Everyone keeps asking me if I’ve got the nursery sorted but we’ve only just had a hob and oven fitted after being without them since the end of January. The kitchen isn’t anywhere near finished but I’m just thrilled to have something to cook on! I’ll get round to the nursery eventually 😅

With braxton hicks, can they be brought on through over exertion? I was carrying boxes and spent most of Saturday bent down sorting through cupboards for this new kitchen and I was nakared with a sore back and very tight belly in the evening! I had wondered if it was braxton hicks but, as I’m only 30 weeks, didn’t know if it was too early to experience them?

Hlc86 · 17/04/2023 18:55

@toomanysausages yes I think they are horrible and uncomfortable, I've been getting about 10-20 a day at the moment but like @Hoppyhops said I don't know if over exertion has been bringing them on as I'm too stubborn to take it easy 😅. I've read some woman start getting them as early as 25 weeks so don't think 30 weeks is too early to experience them, I'm 31 weeks now so not much in front of you @Hoppyhops

Hlc86 · 17/04/2023 18:56

@DrinkingAllTheGin good luck with everything tomorrow and hopefully baby has turned and placenta has moved x

PurBal · 18/04/2023 06:10

@DrinkingAllTheGin hope all goes well today, I also have a scan to check my placenta this week (Thursday).
@Hlc86 @Hoppyhops I have been wondering about BH. I’ve been getting tightenings for a while (I think 24/25 weeks ish), discomfort more than anything and usually in the evenings and exerting myself. Also didn’t have them with DC1. Maybe it’s something else…?

Leaf86 · 18/04/2023 16:03

I have a couple of “baby supplies” questions!

Do you need a mattress protector for a pram mattress? I have one for the crib.

If I am planning/hoping to BF, is it worth getting a bottle or two in case or would it be sensible to wait to see how I get on? I don’t want to buy a load of stuff I don’t need, but equally I don’t want to be stressed about not having a bottle if he needs a FF.

Is a changing bag essential? Is it just that they’re more useful because lots of pockets ? Could you get away with a travel changing mat and a normal rucksack?

DrinkingAllTheGin · 18/04/2023 19:29

My scan went well today. Placenta is now away from the exit, bubs is getting big and at 4lbs 13oz is and looooong legs.
Still laying transverse so hopefully they move but midwife was not worried. All positive.

firsttimelondonmummy · 18/04/2023 19:36

@Leaf86 Have you thought about expressing?
I’m going to try and breast feed but to also pump and feed breast milk from a bottle meaning I can have some me time should I wish be that to have a date night and have my mum look after little one or should I wish to catch up with a friend.
A close friend had a baby last year and by the time she realised she wanted to do some bottle feeds due to the demands placed on her baby wouldn’t take a bottle and it really broke her.
I know personally for my mental health my partner and mum being able to help with feeds is a huge thing.
Each to their own but something to consider ❤️

If you do go down that route we got a full set from Tommy Tippee.

We also got a set of these incase I can’t BF so that we don’t get into a stress in hospital if things don’t go as planned.

@Leaf86 a changing bag is definitely not essential. I found our pacapod great for the compartments and the feeding and changing pod but a lot of changing bags on the market are just essentially a bag with pockets. You could always see how you go without and then order one if you get FOMO lol.

Re feeding, my friend asked me this exact question a few weeks before her DD was born and I suggested she got a couple of bottles if it made her feel more prepared about the situation but said just Amazon prime everything or sending a family member to Boots if you end up needing it ! You'll save a lot of money on potentially unnecessary items.

Re a pram mattress protector, we used moses basket sheets on our pram bassinet mattress and then a muslin for under DS head. They get such sweaty heads !

Hope this helps xx

Leaf86 · 18/04/2023 20:30

@firsttimelondonmummy thank you! Yes - am hoping to express at some point, I have been given a haakaa and if I get on with BF, will purchase an electric pump post birth. Maybe in that context it does make sense to get some bottles. How late did your friend leave it before the baby wouldn’t take the bottle ? I know you can’t introduce too early as it can impact BF, but I don’t want to leave it too late either !

@BobbySD345 super helpful, thank you! The pacapods do look great…

Hlc86 · 18/04/2023 21:22

I'm going full bottle feeding, with my first my milk never came in and the midwife and hospital made me feel so shitty about it but this time I've been firm from the beginning and told them. Of course each to their own but bottle feeding will work better for our family situation and means the other half can do the odd night feed 😅. I've gone for aptamil milk for our little one just purely cause that's what our first daughter had and she got on well with that, and just ordered the starter packs for the hospital bag.

Re changing bag, I agree just a normal bag or backpack will do and the only difference is the changing bags have more pockets, which alot don't get used anyway as everything after awhile just gets shoved in them anyway 😅

@DrinkingAllTheGin glad scan went well and placenta has moved, and still time for baby to turn, and sounds like a good weight too 😍

Funfamilytimes · 18/04/2023 22:20

who ever it was that said the comment about laying in your back but supported by a pillow thing… wow! I tried it last night and slept through the night! The least amount of pain I’ve had in ages! Thank you!!

firsttimelondonmummy · 19/04/2023 08:39

@Hlc86 no judgement here! I bet that if you surveyed women who solely breast fed vs bottle fed that overall bottle feeding mums mental health would be significantly better given feed sharing and less pressure etc.

@Leaf86 I think baby was around 10 weeks.
I think I’ll start expressing around 5-6 weeks (all being well) and pray that he takes the bottle 🤞🏻

Hlc86 · 19/04/2023 09:33

@firsttimelondonmummy yeah I definitely agree.

Been having alot of pains all through the night and got quite a bad upset tummy (sorry tmi) I don't know if it's something I ate or I should call the midwife, but I don't fancy the 40 min drive to the hospital without a loo stop 😢

AstroH · 19/04/2023 14:11

Hey @Hlc86 thinking of you! Hope the tummy trouble has cleared up and things have improved. I felt so sick for a lot of last night not sure if it’s all about digestion slowing down. Did you go in in the end? I went in yday because babe’s movements had become fainter. Spent an hour on the machine and they thought they seemed fine. Put my mind at rest somewhat.

Zaalfruit · 19/04/2023 15:05

@Hlc86 did you contact the midwives. I got a weird belly too . Hope it’s not the troublesome two year old giving me her germs 😫😫😫 I called the midwives and they old me just to drink lots of water and monitor if I feel really weak .
I am going to bottle feed only this time. I breastfeed exclusively for 9 months and I felt happy that she was sustained but I was envious of my husband and everyone else . Also as it was lock down I felt super isolated . I got the nuby rapid cool as well so very excited about that. I wish I had enough milk to express - as this would have made my life easier but for some reason I couldn’t express nothing would come out.

DrinkingAllTheGin · 19/04/2023 19:06

I went to boots today to pick up more vitamins as well as my prescription. Vitamins on 3 for 2 . Had a realisation that I won't need 3 packs, so picked up a post birth pack. Madness!

C1umsyGiraffe · 19/04/2023 19:11

@DrinkingAllTheGin I had a similar situation the other day! Crazy to think we're close enough not to need more than 2 packs of vitamins 😂

Buying pram this weekend, DH been so good and has said I can get whichever one I want as he knows it's important to me and I've found the one I want for 780 but it's still so much money and struggling to pull the trigger!
