I have a private scan booked for 12 March - I'm in Scotland and it was £55. I had one with my first as well and it was definitely worth it to ease my anxiety.

I've just been away with my husband for 3 Nights, a birthday gift we had booked for ages. I feel like a different person without the stress of work and the constant (lovely but tiring) job of parenting a toddler, she stayed with my parents. It was so lovely to have time together to talk properly about the baby too. We've been able to process it and feel excited.

I'm feeling so much better that I'm actually a bit worried my symptoms are subsiding...but I'm sure within a couple of days of normal hectic life I'll be exhausted and broken again soon enough...

VictoriaBlossom · 28/02/2023 23:21

@Baby1023 the smell of stale smoke on people walking past in a&e was just vile. And I used to smoke!
Luckily he was put in minor injuries, we were in and out within 45 minutes.

Normally I'd be anticipating a 4 hour wait in a&e, so we were pleasantly surprised.
Well done NHS we only had to pay £2 parking too as were there under 2 hours. Reeeesult

Toddlers nappy tho, I don't know how you're coping you poor soul 🤢🤢🤢🤢

VictoriaBlossom · 28/02/2023 23:23

@Hankthehonk I'm glad you've had some time out. It sounded like you needed it!
12 days til your scan, once the weekends done itll fly as it'll be "less than a week away" 😍

@Mumto4rugrats unfortunately it didn't end well for me 😢 I started bleeding about an hour after I sent that message. I was 5 weeks 5 days, according to Flo app.

I know a lot of people just have fainter tests so it doesn't necessarily mean a loss.
Hoping your pregnancy progresses well! x

Thankyou but I would be 6 weeks 1 day now and tests practically negative now. Symptoms went away a week ago, got a scan at epu tomorrow as I want to know if it was a late chemical pr a blighted ovum as the drs went me to keep some tissue for testing which I can if blighted ovum maybe but not if chemical. Just want it all over now. I've been in a right state since I found out last week that i was pregnant. I know by body ad I've had 4 children and this isn't progressing. I can stop the progesterone when I know as it always masks my loses as I never bleed until I stop taking it so will see what tomorrow brings xx

NSx · 24/02/2023 10:53

@Mumto4rugrats @buckingmad how are u both doing? 🤍🤍

I've got sn appointment at epu at 8 30am tomorrow for a scan. Teats practically negative now. Symptoms disappeared totally the last week. Just need to know what's what before I stop the progesterone as it always masks my loses as I never bleed on it. I would be 6w2d tomorrow. Just want answers now and want to move on. The past week has been horrific. I feel so sad and empty xx thankyou for asking xx

NSx · 01/03/2023 16:28

@Mumto4rugrats im sorry that you’re going through this, it’s truly awful. Hopefully you can get some answers tomorrow atleast, I’ll be thinking of u 🤍

Alexandra07 · 01/03/2023 20:04

@Mumto4rugrats I'm sorry you go though this. I hope you find the answers you need tomorrow.

Mumto4rugrats · 02/03/2023 14:11

Had scan today, would be 6w2d, my tests got much lighter over the space of the last 7 days ans my breast pain totally went away. I didn't feel pregnant anymore. I've not bled or had any pains due to the progesterone most likely masking it, apart from 3 nights ago I had what normally feels like when I have implantation pains, but can't be that as I'm 6w from last period. Anyway scan shown nothing, not even a sack ,which I knew it would be so, just wanted it confirmed, so I must have had a late chemical as usually they're around 2 days either side of my period but I was 5 weeks gone when I found out last week, so didn't even start the progesterone until then, usually I start it before the period due date when I test and get positives. Cbd said 1-2 last week 1/2 ago meaning 3-4 which was spot on date wise, then they got lighter. Had bloods done and levels are 11.2 which she said is an inconclusive result as anything under that is negative and anything over that positive so said I might have my dates wrong, I haven't, I don't feel pregnant anymore. I've got 4 children, I know what it feels like. I had strong symptoms a week ago for 2 weeks before rhat ,then they vanished. So I now have to stay on the progesterone another 7 days and if my home pregnancy test is still positive then I have to ring them and go for more bloods. If negative then I can come off progesterone if I've not bled before then. I feel better now I have answers but now feel I've been thrown in limbo again. I know my chances are zero as nurse said my numbers would be in the thousands or at least hundreds by now, so it's just falling slowly by the looks of it. I don't know what that pain was ,it was just like implantation but that was 2 days ago so no way I lost one and implanted a week later again. So that's a mystery. Ruled out ectopic as I have no symptoms, nothing seen around ovaries on scan ,and again numbers would be higher than 11.2. 11.2 at 6 weeks in nothing but because I'm in the inconclusive zone they can't say it's a miscarriage yet or a pregnancy either. I feel so exhausted and list. I just want to move on. Xx

@Mumto4rugrats I am so sorry, the whole situation is so emotionally draining. I don't think a lot follow this thread, maybe you can join us in the new thread, maybe someone else has been through that and can share experiences.

SnookyPook · 02/03/2023 16:56

@Mumto4rugrats I'm so sorry to hear that. How devastating for you. And must be tough for it not to have been completely conclusive from the medical care providers perspective, especially when you're certain yourself. I hope that it doesn't drag on too long for you. Sending a massive hug. 💕

Hankthehonk · 02/03/2023 18:22

@Mumto4rugrats I'm so sorry you're going through this, how horrible 😞

Natacat · 02/03/2023 18:43

@Mumto4rugrats I am so sorry. That sounds so emotionally devastating. Hoping you can get some conclusive answers soon xx

NSx · 02/03/2023 19:21

LaVitesse2022 · 02/03/2023 23:01

@Mumto4rugrats I'm so sorry you're going through this. It must be horrible and emotionally draining feeling in limbo. Sending you best wishes, take care of yourself x

Klex · 07/03/2023 14:39

Had my booking in appointment today and it was so positive.

I had quite a bad time with my son - I have a high BMI and I feel I was treated like I was stupid.

I was refused a water birth (I saw the letter between departments and the reason given was I might refuse to get out of needed (I wouldn't)) and the anaesthetist ignored a warning of a genetic resistance to local anaesthetic and left before checking it was working (it wasn't) the anaesthetist was rude and I ended up with an emergency c section.

Anyhoo, midwife is happy for me to be advocating for myself and is looking at helping me (such as making sure that it's in my notes that that anaesthetist is not to treat me unless there is literally no one else).

LR94 · 07/03/2023 17:50

@Klex thats awful you had a bad experience previously! Glad that is was really positive this time. What kind of questions do they ask? I’m abit nervous for mine xx

Mostly health based. Had bloods and a urine sample.

She asked if I felt I needed to talk to someone about last time but I feel I can't change that. What I can do is advocate for myself properly this time.

I find there's a culture in this country of keeping childbirth a mystery from new mums incase you scare them and I don't think it's helpful. There's things I didn't know how they really worked and would not have consented to if I knew. (Ie that scalp monitoring involves sticking a spiral needle into baby's scalp, it's not a benign sticker).

So I'm a big advocate of openness and honesty because I know it's better than a negative outcome caused in part due to naïvety.

LR94 · 07/03/2023 18:45

@Klex i’ve just googled that and its made me feel ill, surely that would be painful! I’m going to ask so many questions at my appointments they will be so fed up with me by the end haha xxx

Koalawhala · 07/03/2023 19:05

@klex my DD had the scalp monitor, it wasn’t explained at all when they put it on.

It’s tough to advocate for yourself, especially with your first because you feel everyone knows more than you but it’s so important. Lots of things went down during my first birth that I just wouldn’t tolerate now.

Klex · 07/03/2023 19:14

Thing is, when you are in the throes of labour you are less able to think straight and even if you are asked to consent to things I don't always think you are able to rationally balance things in your mind.

I got induced at 10 days over mainly because I was bored and wanted to max out my maternity leave.

No one warned me that it can accelerate the dilation - which some, including me, find it difficult to cope with the rapid progression of pain as opposed to a gradual one - or that it increases the chance of intervention.

This is the kind of stuff I'd find more useful than some of what we got in antenatal classes.

But yeah, the scalp monitor thing is horrific, but more so if not explained properly.

MeganC104 · 07/03/2023 20:00

@Klex it sounds as though you and me had similar experiences. I was induced for low pappa but later discovered it was only just under the norm and I could have just had extra monitoring (the doctor told me I HAD to be induced). The induction was successful but brutal and sons heart rate dipped so had emergency c section. He also had a "clip" put on his scalp which I later discovered wasn't a clip at all. This time I feel more knowledgeable but also feel like I have even less options. I wanted a water birth too originally but I'll never get one now that I've had a c sec. I would like to try a vbac if it's a good option for me. What about you?

AlongcameLainey · 07/03/2023 21:06

I had my booking appointment today over the phone.

it was all quite positive. They offered me counselling after my first labour with DD (it was brutal) but I declined as I’m at peace with my first labour now. During my last pregnancy I had severe migraines which turned out to be a pituitary gland tumour which was bleeding (confirmed post labour) so they have said I have to have appointments with the consultant to check whether I’m allowed to push this time - if not may be a c section which I would ideally like to avoid I think.

Bloods booked for Sunday and I have my last scan with the EPU tomorrow all being well - fingers crossed 🤞
