Hi @acaciabluebell I haven't had any spotting but if I remember correctly you also had IVF? In the 'pregnant after IVF' thread there are a few ladies that have had it, apparently we are more suspectible to it. Hope that helps put your mind at ease. :-)

Anyone have any dark brown discharge? I'm nearly 7 weeks. Last week I had a small pink bleed but everything was fine, I had a scan on Monday. And then since yesterday I'm just having these small amounts of brown. Is it normal?

I've been having some since Friday- am now 6 weeks today. It was very small amounts on and off, saw nothing for a couple of days then yesterday morning had a lot more (still brown), so GP send me to the EPU for a scan. They saw a sack and yolk that measured about right but said it could be too early for a heartbeat (I ovulated on day 16 or 17 so I'm likely a couple of days behind anyway). They weren't overly concerned. The Dr who saw me afterwards said I have a cervical erosion and that this can bleed easily after exertion or even straining, anything really, so I'm crossing my fingers that that's where it's coming from. I never had any with my first but I was a fair bit younger then!
Going back in 2 weeks for another scan.

acaciabluebell · 22/02/2023 10:59

@Malzzy thank you for sharing! I'm curious how did the doctor check for cervical erosion, was it on the ultrasound or a different examination?

@Malzzy thank you for sharing! I'm curious how did the doctor check for cervical erosion, was it on the ultrasound or a different examination?

she did an internal examination after the scan to get some swabs incase it was thrush or something, and said 'don't be surprised if you get some bleeding after this you have a cervical erosion', so I asked if that could be the cause of the spotting and she said 'yes if you have sex or exert yourself with exercise or lots of walking or something- it rubs against the vaginal wall and will bleed' TMI but I've been so constipated and I've read even straining with that can cause a bleed.

acaciabluebell · 22/02/2023 11:11

@Malzzy i see! I didn't have an internal examination so that could also be a possibility. I've also been constipated and straining a lot.

Jealousofchiliheeler · 22/02/2023 11:21

@DSP21 I've not had an ectopic before but I have similar pain and my GP has referred me for a scan so probably worth giving yours a call.

DSP21 · 22/02/2023 11:27

@Jealousofchiliheeler ahh thank you! When is your scan? Please let us know how you get on!

Jealousofchiliheeler · 22/02/2023 11:30

@DSP21 it's this afternoon, barely slept last night, the hours are going so slow!

AlongcameLainey · 22/02/2023 11:31

A relief to see this today!

As expected my dates were out by over a week so I’m 5 weeks today!

Back for another reassurance scan on the 8th March and then I’ll be discharged from EPU 🎉

@Jealousofchiliheeler ahhh i’ll be waiting on tenterhooks for an update!

@AlongcameLainey this is amazing!!! Such a relief!! These early scans were always way way waaay off for me with DD1 but caught up later, i guess the bean is just too small to be accurate. How amazing to see and you’re tempting me to book an early scan!

katherine123x · 22/02/2023 12:14

@AlongcameLainey ohhh yes! So happy for you

AlongcameLainey · 22/02/2023 12:19

Ahh thank you @katherine123x and @DSP21 .

so relieved - hoping this has contributed to my insomnia so I might actually get some sleep tonight…. I won’t hold my breath though 🤣

Had the community midwife on the phone to arrange my booking in appointment, starting to feel real now!

buckingmad · 22/02/2023 14:57

When are people contacting their midwives? My last baby I filled out a form and just waited for a reply but where I am now they want me to ring. I feel a bit silly ringing at 4+4! But I also know mat services are busy so probably best to get my appointment in soon. I was thinking I'd wait till my private scan when I'm 7 weeks and then give them a call?

Think it depends on where you live. I called at around 4 weeks and had my booking in appointment at 5 weeks. I'm in Central London, low risk second pregnancy.

PeopleAreToads · 22/02/2023 15:15

@buckingmad they wanted to do mine at 9 weeks, I'm 5+1 today and they only had two appointment slots left in the right week, so may be worth doing it before 7 weeks

Chanteuse · 22/02/2023 15:22

I self-referred to the midwife straight away, then about 5 days later I got my appt through. Mines on 07/03 so I’ll be 9+1 or 8+6 according to NHS date (I ovulated early this month so going off my Premom due date atm)

buckingmad · 22/02/2023 15:23

@fleur89 Thank you. With my first I filled in the form straight away (about 5 weeks) but didn't have my booking in appointment until I was almost 11 weeks. But I live 240 miles away from there now! Suppose there is no harm in ringing.

@PeopleAreToads This is what I thought may be the case! I just feel a bit like I'm tempting fate ringing so early. With my first I was no where near as anxious as this about it all, just pure excitement!😅

I'll give them a ring on my day off and see what they say.

Hankthehonk · 22/02/2023 15:40

My midwife just called today as well! The guidance where I live is to register with the health board as soon as you know you're pregnant, so I called last week when I was 4 weeks. Booking appointment is in for 11 March when I'll be almost 8 weeks.

SnookyPook · 22/02/2023 15:40

Hmm you've all made me wonder now! I was going to wait until I hit 6 weeks as with my first I rang straight away and they basically didn't want to know yet as it was so early. I think I'll wait until I'm at least 5 weeks though.

BeaKind · 22/02/2023 15:56

Eeek, I feel a bit silly calling already. I'm 4 + 3. Think I'm scarred though as my GP with first baby was horrible and really undermined me and told me my dates didn't work out etc. (PCOS so very irregular cycles). I was like LADY! Let me tell you how diligently I have been tracking I know EXACTLY when I ovulated lol.

Been feeling like it's not real but this afternoon have slowly started feeling crappy like I have chills and backache. Is anyone else having chills? 😰

NSx · 22/02/2023 16:31

I called too book as soon as I got that second pink line, it ensured I got dates for scans/ booking appts on the days that suited me the most, I must have been 3 weeks something 😂😂

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling straight away, gives you something to look forward to also.

those of you suffering from insomnia, is it all catching up with you? I’ve literally just fell asleep on my couch at 3.45pm 💀

Jealousofchiliheeler · 22/02/2023 16:46

Just had my scan, not an ectopic - phew! But really early so they said can't see yolk sac or heartbeat yet.
The sonographer also thinks I might have a bicornuate uterus, although she wasn't sure. She said if it is then there is a risk of preterm delivery. Wasn't mentioned in my last pregnancy and that went to term (in fact went nearly a week over, practically had to serve an eviction notice!) So hoping that means that even if it is then it's nothing to worry about. Interestingly I did have quite a big bleed afterwards that was never fully explained, apparently it can increase the risk of postpartum hemorrhage so worth knowing about.
Anyway I've got to go back next week so they can get the consultant to double check so hoping there'll also be more to see with the pregnancy too!
