Just found the new thread. Been catching up on all the thoughts on early scans, think we've decided to have one at 7 weeks.

I know having one doesn't reduce the risk of anything going wrong between then and 12 weeks, but think it will make me less anxious. It doesn't feel real yet and I cant really get excited because I'm not letting myself believe its happening

afinethingindeed · 19/02/2023 02:29

@amybooth I think it depends on the midwife. Mine did it at 24 weeks. I think it can be harder to find at 16 weeks so some don't try to avoid any stress. I heard lots do it at 16 weeks though. I remember feeling it was such a long wait between 12 week and 20 week scans - would have loved to hear her heartbeat then.

afinethingindeed · 19/02/2023 02:31

I feel like my number one symptom at the moment is insomnia. Wide awake currently 😞

braxxen · 19/02/2023 03:43

@afinethingindeed Hello! Also wide awake and hungry! Sitting in bed munching Ritz crackers at 3.30am

CB23CB · 19/02/2023 06:30

What even is sleep at this point! Confused

Ss32 · 19/02/2023 06:46

I think the lack of sleep is to prepare you for the baby coming! I slept more with a newborn than I did in pregnancy last time!

afinethingindeed · 19/02/2023 07:00

Haha I used to get so annoyed when people said "enjoy the sleep while you can" 🙄 like don't they know pregnant women don't sleep lol.

@braxxen oooh ritz crackers, now there's an idea for next time!! 😂

Beemug · 19/02/2023 07:11

Being vain for a moment to talk about skin!
I’m getting spots - anyone else? Mixed info on what skin care stuff for acne is safe to use in pregnancy so I’m using nothing dedicated for it ….which is probably not helping alongside the hormones!

NSx · 19/02/2023 07:39

Been wide awake since 5am, I don’t remember this happening to me before 🙃 .. actually soul destroying 😅

@Beemug my skin was wild the last time, I went to the doctors and I was prescribed Zineryt - can’t say it helped much tbh 😂😂😂 I tried everything … i have a carbon bar that I got last time but didn’t really use so might give that a bash if my skin starts again 😅 how many weeks are u?

I have pregnancy insomnia too but then I start to feel knackered by 9pm! 😡

Jealousofchiliheeler · 19/02/2023 08:42

@Beemug not currently having acne, one of the few things I liked about my last pregnancy was my skin cleared up a lot. However as someone with naturally oily and spot prone skin I have found that the one thing that really worked was The Ordinary niacinamide zinc solution. Initial searches seems to suggest it's safe to use in pregnancy, and it's actually reasonably priced for something that actually works!

Jealousofchiliheeler · 19/02/2023 09:21

Congratulations to those that have had good results on early scans!

I think I might actually be one of the few on the thread whose last pregnancy was pre-covid, and also work closely with maternity in my job. In case anyone is interested the standard care on early pregnancy back then was booking around 8/40(ish), dating scan at 12/40 in person midwife scan at 16/40 (and yes they did check for heartbeat but this was by no means universal and came with the caveat not to panic if they didn't find one) then 20/40 scan. My understanding is that 16/40 now is routinely over the phone. I went to almost all my MW appts alone, except a few at the end, partly because there was loads of snow and ice and I was worried I'd slip over! DH just came to scans. In booking they need to ask about DV so they prefer if partner isn't in the room, so I think it's good to go alone or else prep them to leave for a bit. Ask partner in advance if any family history of anything, if he has any medical conditions, or else prep them to take a call in the appt if you need to clarify stuff.

I think someone asked why booking apt can be 2hrs, they have a massive form to work through, screening for lots of different health conditions, previous pregnancies etc. So if it's first pregnancy and you have no pre-existing conditions they wizz through fairly quickly, but if you answer yes to some stuff, for example DV/mental health etc, they then need to ask for details of this, discuss referrals on if necessary etc. Or if you've had social care involvement, agin that's a tricky conversation. So then that takes much longer. And also if you've had several pregnancies with complications etc. Most trusts have different record systems and they don't always talk to each other well so if you've switched trusts they'll need to ask lots of the same stuff again. But for most you'll be out before that, but they need to give you the likely maximum time.

Apologies for the massive post and also if this has already all been said, I've been writing this for ages in between also trying to get DC to tidy room!

I have terrible night sweats. I get so hot

MeganC104 · 19/02/2023 09:35

My cold has now become a sinus infection. I feel like my head is going to burst. Grateful morning sickness hasn't kicked in yet cause not sure how I'd cope. Did another test today line is slightly darker but still quite light compared to control line

NSx · 19/02/2023 09:50

@MeganC104 this was me yesterday. Constant migraine and couldn’t breathe through my nose, hear in my ears, I took paracetamol and drank loads of hot water with lemon and honey and have not left my house/bed since Friday - this seems to have subsided but now I have a chesty cough 😂😂😂😂 … this all started on Tuesday from a sore throat, sore sinuses 😭
@Pregnancychatter pregnancy insomnia is real 😭

ali2021 · 19/02/2023 10:01

Hi everyone! Also didn't realise the previous thread had continued...enjoying catching up! Lovely to see some positive scans.

Currently 6weeks, due 15th Oct. I've a viability scan booked with my consultant on Friday at 6w+5d. Since the scan was booked, I've become incredibly anxious and convinced there's going to be nothing there. I've never had many symptoms apart from fatigue and backache and this has me so worried. Anyone else feel the same before a scan? Don't know how I'll get through the week.. days are dragging!

fleur89 · 19/02/2023 10:40

@ali2021 my scan is Friday too, I'll be 7+1. Finding the wait very difficult. I gave birth to DD1 in the private systems in Hong Kong and of course this was much more comprehensive. I was scanned at 3 weeks to confirm pregnancy and had hcg levels measured 2 days apart to check progression. Then heartbeat scan at 6-7 weeks, progress scan at 9 weeks, NIPT at 10 weeks and NT scan at 12 weeks, etc. This really helped with my prenatal anxiety until you can feel the baby yourself and feel more secure in things. I'll definitely be doing dual track with private, it's 10000 percent worth it for me. Particularly in the early stage and towards the end when you want to check size, position and fluid levels etc.

braxxen · 19/02/2023 11:25

Just had a call from hospital to confirm my self referral - seems I missed my DOB from the referral.

From everything I've read, I'm expecting an appointment in the next two weeks (I'm 8 weeks atm). I wish they'd just tell me when as hard to organise with work!

Chanteuse · 19/02/2023 11:33

I’ve had terrible hip pains last night 😫 was almost like sciatica. Hopefully that’s temporary 🥴

PeopleAreToads · 19/02/2023 11:37

How are you all managing social plans now? I've got so much on that keeping it secret will be challenge!

Things worrying me most are a weekend away with friends when I'll be 10 weeksish. And I'm a bridesmaid at my sisters wedding in the summer and we're due to look at dresses when I'm about 9 weeks

katherine123x · 19/02/2023 11:58

@PeopleAreToads same here. Bridesmaid in June. I told her this week!! Just so she knows I'm not being awkward and we can arrange a bit closer!

acaciabluebell · 19/02/2023 12:38

6+2 here and recently each day around midday-ish I get the worst nausea/unsettled stomach and heartburn. I keep burping constantly and the burps taste sour/like sick and make me gag. Ughhhh. Anyone else experiencing this? I thought it's way too early for heartburn.

I had this a few days ago, was horrible but luckily it only lasted one evening / night and went away :) ginger tea helped with this 😊

MeganC104 · 19/02/2023 13:02

@NSx mine started Wednesday. Head and face hurt so much. Pharmacist suggested a salt water spray because it's drug free. I'll see if it works

Jealousofchiliheeler · 19/02/2023 13:09

@acaciabluebell I've had some episodes of absolutely wicked heartburn and I'm still not even 5 weeks! Google seems to think it's because of rising progesterone....
