My screening came back as low risk 1 in 5909 for Down’s syndrome and 1 in 100000 for Edward’s or Pataus’ syndrome. Feeling relieved and ready to tell work, although some people must have guessed because I look very pregnant 😂 Been wearing loose clothes to try to hide the bump!

Owlgirl14 · 23/02/2023 16:16

@Nik84 That's great news, I told my manager after my 12 week scan as I was starting to show being very slim and she said she did wonder the week before but thought it may have just been bloat.

Did you get a letter for your results, if so how long did it take? I've been told 3 weeks but would get a call sooner if it was high risk. Not heard anything yet and it's been a week now. So fingers crossed will just get a letter.

Nik84 · 23/02/2023 16:23

@Owlgirl14I was told it would be a phone call in 3-5 days if it was high risk and a letter in 2 weeks for low risk. I had my scan last Thursday and the letter arrived today, so only had to wait a week 😊

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 17:14

Hi everyone, am in bits this evening. Just had a call from the midwives to say that our Down's syndrome screening test came back as high risk (1:49) with my hcg level being the main reason as it was 2.5MoM I think she said. I'm normal weight and 29, and the NT fluid was average.

Has anyone else had anything like this? Feel really lost and in need of some more info x

allgoodthings84 · 23/02/2023 18:56

@Rainbowmamma23 I’m so sorry for your worry. There’s still 48 out of 49 chance baby will be fine. I know that doesn’t help you feel better. Have you been offered an NIPT test on the nhs? This is meant to be 99% accurate and most people who have one because of high risk combined screening go on to be low risk on this.

Owlgirl14 · 23/02/2023 18:57

@Nik84 thank you, my scan was also last Thursday so hoping mine comes early too. Had a call early Monday morning thinking it was bad news but they just said I needed to send another urine sample in as it was mixed cultures.

@Rainbowmamma23 Sorry to hear that, when did you have your scan. I've been looking at possible screening numbers and they do look scary but try to see it as 2 in 98 which effectively means 2% chance, so there's about 98% chance that all will be ok. Have you been offered further testing x

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 19:01

@Owlgirl14 and @allgoodthings84 thank you for your responses ♥️ have been offered the blood test OR the CVS testing. I think I'm going to go straight for the CVS in the hopes of a more certain answer x

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 19:01

Just waiting for the hospital to give me a date for the procedure ♥️

allgoodthings84 · 23/02/2023 19:07

@Rainbowmamma23 I don’t blame you for wanting to know. You see plenty of stories on hear of people having NIPT or CVS and everything being fine. Fingers crossed you’re one of those 💕

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 19:09

@allgoodthings84 thank you ♥️ after a loss in June, it's pretty horrific but trying to keep strong ♥️

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/02/2023 19:17

@Rainbowmamma23 have you been waiting for the results since the 15th? Such a long wait and to get a call 😔my midwife friend said it's only screening, the vast majority get a good result from the diagnostic tests xx

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 19:28

@ILookAtTheFloor no, just had our official Nhs scan on Wednesday and results today. Ah that's really reassuring, thank you!

It was only my hcg which was a concern - everything else was fine, so fingers crossed I guess.

Have been scrolling like mad through mumsnet to find people in similar positions and what happened/how they felt.

We don't have any appointments locally so I'll have to travel up to London, so hopefully will be in good hands ♥️

Amazing that you've got a midwife friend to consult with! That must be such a comfort ♥️

ILookAtTheFloor · 23/02/2023 19:34

@Rainbowmamma23 I think having the procedure is the best decision so that you'll know. There is a mumsnet board for antenatal tests and it's such a good resource - most people have a good outcome. Have you looked at what high HCG may mean if it isn't anything chromosomal? I know the papp-a can mean a small baby and taking aspirin but not sure about high HCG.

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 19:35

@ILookAtTheFloor thanks! I will have a look... feel a bit frazzled. Was hoping to call the midwives back with questions about it - like what could be the other causes for higher hcg but they were closed. Will try first thing if I don't find any answers online. It's hard because you can go down Google rabbit holes and feel worse sometimes!

thirdtimemummy101 · 23/02/2023 19:39

I'm sorry you had such a shock- wishing you all the best in the weeks to come. I know so many beautiful and kind Down syndrome children who are a true blessing to their parents x

Stargazer89 · 23/02/2023 20:05

@Rainbowmamma23 I'm sorry to hear that you have had a high risk but I know exactly how you feel because I had the dreaded call with my DD in 2020. Mine was also due to the bloods. I opted for the nipt test because when the consultant did a detailed scan he couldn't see any markers and it all came back fine. I had very low pappa and high HcG. I remember reading about it at the time that higher HCG can mean it's a girl - that was right for me.

Feel free to ask me any questions. I remember it like it was yesterday x

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 20:25

@Stargazer89 that's really interesting, I really appreciate you sharing your experience. Do you remember what your hcg level was?

I hadn't thought about the blood test like that, but like you all of the scan markers have been low so it's definitely something to consider ♥️

Stargazer89 · 23/02/2023 20:48

@Rainbowmamma23 i'm sorry but don't remember my HCG (i think i was told anything other than it was high) but remember my Pappa was 0.19 which was considered pretty low.

It's totally up to you what you go for but I had the option to decide on the day after the detailed scan that is done by a consultant. The screening midwife after told me that she would have done the same. I researched loads and asked the consultant lots of questions and although the NIPT is still only a screening tool it's very accurate for down syndrome. There are occasional false positives so they always advise a cvs or amino if you were to receive a positive from the nipt. but my understanding is that false negatives are extremely rare (my consultant said he hadn't ever come across one) so a low risk should be very reassuring. It's worth thinking about as it's non invasive and a CVS isn't always possible (as i found out the other week) due to placenta position.

Rainbowmamma23 · 23/02/2023 21:18

@Stargazer89 really appreciate you talking me through it. Thank you xxx

Owlgirl14 · 23/02/2023 22:33

How's everyone feeling? Have first trimester symptoms eased at all?

I've been feeling a bit better the last week but then the nausea/headaches have kicked back in at 14 weeks. The nausea tonight was the worst it's been so far! I thought the placenta was supposed to have taken over so you start to feel better 🙈

Cloudheaven · 23/02/2023 22:53

Not much of a FB user so don’t know if this is normal but I can’t find the FB group anymore - not on my friends list - please could someone send me another link for it please! Sorry for being so socials clueless!

Cloudheaven · 23/02/2023 22:57

@Owlgirl14 i’m 14 weeks and some bits have eased like the nausea (or maybe I’m just managing it better before I get to the nausea feeling, by eating porridge early on) but the headaches!! Had couple of days respite and now back again with a vengeance. Pretty much non stop for all of the 14 weeks so I’m now hoping for a 20 week respite or something 🤪

Ally345 · 24/02/2023 02:53

@Cloudheaven the FB group was deprecated, missed the reason why (from my notifications, seems there was a post and then it was closed). Not sure if an alternative was created

divorcingmumoftwo · 24/02/2023 06:15

The facebook groups are the best! Hope there's another created. If not I'm happy to.

allgoodthings84 · 24/02/2023 08:13

It was closed because wasn’t really being used much and the lady who set it up doesn’t really come on here. She’s part of another August due babies Facebook group called August Buns
