I see it as it’s a lovely surprise whenever you find out. It’s magical when they are born even if you already know if it’s a boy or girl. It’s all individual preference 😊.

We told my mum last night and I told my dad this morning. I had to do it over the phone as he doesn’t live local to me and when I see him weekend after this one all of the family on his side will be there (grandparents birthdays) and I wanted him to know before the extended family find out. I was dreading his reaction but he said it was great news. We are telling my daughter next week, probably Friday as I’ve ordered her a big sister tshirt to open. We have ordered scratch cards for his parents (not together) as want to make it exciting for them as it’s their first grandchild

Regarding finding out the sex or not, we kept it as a surprise for our first and it was magical. However this time I just cannot face the thought of having to sort out all the clothes with a newborn and toddler to look after, so I think we’re going to find out!

My scan put me at 12+3 yesterday so I’m due on 28th August. I have an anterior placenta, which I’ve read makes it harder to feel movement? I don’t remember what I had with my girls, I was much more relaxed about everything then 😅 I’ve told my children and they are beyond happy. Will have to wait another 2 weeks to tell my parents as they’re on holiday! I need to wait a few days for screening results if high risk and the sonographer wouldn’t say if she saw any risk but I saw NT was 1.8mm, is that in the normal range? I wasn’t worried about all this in previous pregnancies, age brings worry 🤨

Best of luck to those having scans soon xx

Haven't posted yet, been too paranoid, continue to be very paranoid, I have my 12 week scan later today and I have scanxiety off the scale!! Terrified of mmc although I've been very sick and I'm showing already at least but could mean nothing (third pregnancy after a huge gap). Someone please talk me down!!! Very worried about the screening part as well as I'm almost 36 and feel ancient this time!!

We tried for over 2 years before falling and expecting it to be snatched away at any moment!

@ILookAtTheFloor deep breaths mamma! What time is your appointment, can you literally plan to fill every minute leading up to it with some distractions?

What I say to myself: chances of a mmc are really low, I have pregnancy symptoms, worrying literally has no effect on the outcome, it is beyond my control.

Let us know how it went later x

@ILookAtTheFloor sending you good vibes and luck ♥️ what time is the scan? Completely get the whole scanxiety, following mmc. You are just so worried ♥️ each pregnancy is different, you got this xxxx

@DandelionPockets it's 12:20. Dropping my girls off with SIL at 11 and heading there with plenty of time. Feel sick and not just the normal sick! I've had no scans, nothing. I took one test when I was almost 6 weeks cos I'd had a chemical the previous month. I had a digi all ready to confirm, was too terrified, it's gathering dust in a drawer right now!

Loving all the different takes on finding out the sex btw! Really intriguing to me the different mindsets.

@Nik84 what a cute scan! I got 1.8mm too. When I googled it said it was fine, and that it would have to be quite a bit more than that for it be a concern. Still, waiting for the full results and trying not to think about or worry!

@Nik84 I found out I've got anterior this time! Was really hoping for posterior, for reassurance of movements following mmc - but hey Ho! Sounds like everyone is different with when and how much they manage to feel it! Fingers crossed ♥️

@ILookAtTheFloor I felt the same yesterday, also have a big age gap and I’m 38. I held my breath expecting there to be nothing, then the little baby appeared. I saw the heartbeat flickering and sobbed. I’m not usually emotional, but it’s been a long wait to check all is ok. Deep breaths and don’t overthink, you’ll be fine.

@DandelionPockets Thankyou 😌 Glad to hear it’s normal, I have to refrain from googling or I end up falling down the rabbit hole 😅

Welcome @ILookAtTheFloor and good luck for the scan today! I am sure everything will be fine, but understand the anxiety.
As others suggested, try to fill the time with things that don't require thinking like playing Candy Crush on your phone or watching TV :-)
Keep us posted!

@ILookAtTheFloor It will soon come round and hopefully you'll get the reassurance you need. I hadn't had any scans either until yesterday so I do understand the worry but I looked at it that MMC in 1-5% of cases which is rather low. So you have a much better chance that everything will be ok, so try to focus on the positive numbers (95-99%).

Please do let us know how you get on x

@ILookAtTheFloor I'm also 36 so similar to you with the screening, my NT measurement was 1.5mm which seems to be quite low. Anything below 3.5mm I think is ok. I was told if the tests come back high risk then they would ring otherwise results back by letter within 3 weeks.

@nic84 I wasn't told anything about placenta so assume everything is ok. That NT score is fine, anything below 3.5mm is good I believe. Congrats on the scan, I keep looking at mine, still can't believe it's real! I got dated 6 days ahead as well which puts me at 13+1. x

Has anyone looked into the nub theory for guessing the gender of 12 week scan? I've had a look but can't see a nub on our photo typically!

Report
Rainbowmamma23 · 17/02/2023 11:24

@Owlgirl14 I can't a nub in mine either! I posted on peanut and everyone said girl though ♥️

Report
Owlgirl14 · 17/02/2023 12:22

@Rainbowmamma23 It will be interesting to see if the nub predictions are right. We feel it's a boy, also measuring ahead by 6 days and one person said can't see a nub and one said boy!

@Nik84 I had an anterior placenta with my daughter and have again this time too. They don’t expect you to feel obvious movements/kicks until up to 24 weeks. I can’t remember exactly with my daughter but know it was after my 20 weeks scan. This baby NT was 1.3mm at 12+4 and I googled away and doctors don’t worry about anything 2.9mm or under apparently (at 12 weeks) so yours isn’t a concern at all either. I’ve not told my daughter yet as want to know I’m not high risk first on the combined screening. The scan but was all good just waiting on the rest. I’ll hear in 3-5 working days (Wednesday latest) if high risk so we will tell her next Friday if all good 😊
