@Janefx40 Thank you, I hope your chat with the mental health midwife goes well. I’ve been seeing the perinatal mental health midwife now for over a month and it has helped.

I find that my midwife sort of rushes our appointments, I am sure they are just overworked and overbusy but when you’re anxious and feel like they ignore your questions etc it can be really hard!

I am a first time mum with the added anxiety from my losses, but just wondered if anyone else has anxiety about going over due date? Is this normal

Blue2020 · 03/04/2023 15:39

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl thankyou, he appears to be doing well so far. He’s now having light treatment for jaundice, apparently it’s normal when they are early.
I don’t know if I mentioned he arrived at exactly 35weeks so not too far off the 37week mark. He was 5lb4, we’ve called him Elijah.

Im doing ok. Im on the post natal ward at the minute, so I can pop and see him when I like. Although I’m spending half the time just wiped out. I don’t know if it’s the surgery, pain killers, the bp medication.
@Janefx40 Thankyou. Hopefully it will be a good recovery.

Good luck to everyone, I’m sure if won’t be long before you are all meeting your little ones.

ArrrMeHearties · 03/04/2023 17:49

Was meant to have just a growth scan today.... That has turned into being admitted as my consultant thinks I might have a blood clot on my lung 😢 had been getting a really sore pain in my right side and was very short of breath last night. Said to her today and now ill have a ct scan tomorrow to see what's what.
On a brighter note wee man is cooking away nicely and is now 5lb 2oz at 32+3. Back on 1st may for final growth scan. I won't get to go past my due date so if he's not here by then I'll be induced otherwise it's he will come when he comes

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 03/04/2023 20:29

@Blue2020 congratulations! As a fellow neonatal unit mum, let me know if you have any questions - it can be tough but the nurses are great!

MO22 · 03/04/2023 21:41

@Blue2020 congrats to you and what a lovely name for your little boy. Hope you are recovering well. X

Janefx40 · 03/04/2023 23:42

@ArrrMeHearties sorry to hear about the blood clot. Assuming you are staying in tonight. Let us know how the scan goes! Xxx

ArrrMeHearties · 04/04/2023 00:17

@Janefx40 i am indeed in for tonight. Hopefully get some good news that I don't have a blood clot as the thought of 2x daily blood thinning jags on top of 4x blood glucose fingerpricks does not fill me with joy at all

Blue2020 · 11/04/2023 06:38

@Myotherusernameisaferrari how are your little ones doing? The neonatal unit have been so great. Hes out of an incubator and in a cot now. It’s working on his feeding to make sure he puts on weight and doesn’t need the tube before it’s removed, I think he’s getting there.

@MO22 thankyou, I’m getting there in terms of healing I think. I just have to remember not to rush back into a normal routine and undue any of the recovery.

@ArrrMeHearties I found out after the csection that I have to take blood clotting injections for 6 weeks. I heard it’s typically 10 days but I had enough criteria that they made it 6 weeks. Hope you are doing well, I realise that was a week ago. Did they say if you needed them?

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 11/04/2023 21:47

@Blue2020 glad to hear your little lad is doing well! My two are in a cot - we've had some issues with reflux which I'm hoping we may have sorted. We're also working on feeding - I suspect we're a few weeks out from going home but starting to move in the right way!

ArrrMeHearties · 11/04/2023 23:07

@Blue2020 i ended up thankfully not having a blood clot but I'm back on iron tablets as my ferratin is at 9 atm. The jags didn't nip when the needle went in but the stuff going through the needle does nip and I had to try not rub the site as the 2nd day of them I did and I bruised. I had them while in the hospital but stopped on discharge.

Janefx40 · 20/04/2023 12:50

Hi everyone,

How are you all doing? I'm on mat leave which I was really looking forward to but so tired and sore everywhere that I can't do much and I'm actually a bit bored and miserable!

Where is everyone up to?

MRSDoos · 20/04/2023 12:54

@Janefx40 I’m also on MAT leave. Having consistent period like cramps at the moment, 1cm dilated and in early labour but have been told it can still take weeks. Just ready for pregnancy to be over and little one to make their arrival!

Janefx40 · 20/04/2023 12:57

@MRSDoos wow early labour is exciting. So it could take weeks but maybe quicker? When is your due date.

I'm so tired but sleeping is just awful because I get such bad pains in my legs/bum. Feeling very sorry for myself today!!!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 20/04/2023 13:14

Hello all! 36 weeks today and doing okay. Blood pressure was a bit high so ended up at maternity assessment all morning but no other signs of pre eclampsia and it came down a bit 🤷‍♀️. So just to monitor!

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl hope you are home now!

MO22 · 20/04/2023 14:12

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl glad all is ok!

I had my (supposedly) last scan today at 35 weeks and they've said I've got low amniotic fluid. Baby growing well and lots of movement, and they did a check to make sure my waters haven't broken and theyre not, but I'm back next week for another scan to monitor.

The consultant was like, don't be too worried, you're close to full term so if it gets any lower then we can talk about induction etc, very casually. I am definitely not ready lol, that's totally freaked me out, but I suppose I better get my head in gear and pack a hospital bag just in case! I've still got another 3 weeks of work as well. Feel a bit ambushed ha, and worried as to why it's low.

How is everyone else?

MO22 · 20/04/2023 14:13

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl I was also at MAU and then the labour triage all morning, literally just got home.

ArrrMeHearties · 20/04/2023 17:49

Its my birthday tomorrow and ill be 35 weeks. Have my last growth scan on the 1st of May. Dh has his op date which is the week before my due date 🙈 I hope I go before or after his op as if it is cancer he will get his operation in hospital an hour away from the hospital we are at for baby

Anoushka1986 · 21/04/2023 05:04

@ArrrMeHearties stressful time for you! Hope your husband is ok.

We're nearly there! I've been finding the last few weeks difficult. Lots of worry re-emerging as I get closer to delivery, as this is where it went pear shaped with my son (who is thankfully fine and healthy). But I had a reassuring call with the dr yesterday so I'm feeling a bit better.

I'm also finding my c section scar is hurting a lot which is limiting what I can do. I have so much cleaning, organising and sorting to do! We are not prepared at all!

MO22 · 01/05/2023 06:59

How is everyone?
I'm being induced shortly at 37 weeks, trying to get my head round it! Anyone got an tips??

Janefx40 · 01/05/2023 07:38

@MO22 good luck!! I was induced with my DD. It didn't work for me but it does for most people. After 48 hours we had a c section which always sounds very dramatic but wasn't in reality as nothing happened. I wasn't in any pain because nothing happened!!! We had told family and friends not to contact us but we would let them know any news because we wanted to be in this zen bubble but in the end we were so bored we ended up chatting to anyone and everyone including people I'd not caught up with in years! 😁

I would say that isn't most people tho. The other women around me were all having babies! Just be opened to going with the flow - things are sometimes different to how you expect!

Are you planning a natural birth or are you open to pain relief?

MO22 · 01/05/2023 09:14

@Janefx40 thanks, sounds v similar to my sister's induction, she had a c section after 3 days...

I'm very open to pain relief, had originally hoped to do birthing suite, pool, spontaneous labour, with gas and air but as I've got low amniotic fluid that's all gone to pot and induction it is! I think I will need pain relief based on what I've read...

Trying not to read too many horror stories but also can't help it. Doesn't sound like an amazing way to do it, but I suppose everyone is different so who knows what will happen.

Janefx40 · 01/05/2023 09:25

@MO22 ok cool. Well my main advice is to relax and go with the flow. The important thing is that you are about to have a baby!!! In the end how it happens isn't the most important thing.

I didn't want to suggest this in case you were wedded to no pain relief and then it made you anxious. But since you are open to pain relief, my advice is to have an epidural at the same time as they give you oxytocin if you need that second step. That is what I did because of the intensity and pain levels of taking oxytocin (which is the second line induction drug they give not the first thing they do). I did this on the advice of several friends.

We had made the decision that if stage 1 didn't work and we had to move on to stage 2 (oxytocin) I would have an epidural at the same time. It did feel strange as I wasn't in any pain so it felt quite drastic to have such an intense pain relief when I wasn't feeling anything. I nearly changed my mind as a result but my DP reminded me of why we made the plan so I did it (whilst feeling slightly embarrassed). I'm so glad I did. There really is no prize for being in pain and I have absolutely no regrets about not having experienced a contraction!

Also as our induction didn't work it made it super easy to have the c section as I already had the line into my back.

Janefx40 · 01/05/2023 09:28

@MO22 the other thing I would say is that be aware that newborn babies can look a bit bizarre. They can be red and puffy etc. that might sound a strange thing to say but my one actual regret about having my first was that I was a bit surprised that she didn't look the way I expected. And I still feel this awful guilt about that being my first thought! If I had known what to expect I might not have felt that! Your baby will soon look more like what you expect and see if peoples' pics. Enjoy that you are the only person that gets to see the baby in their very first moments!!!

MRSDoos · 01/05/2023 09:57

@MO22 I am being induced in the morning and feeling excited but nervous - lots of horror stories about induction but read @Janefx40 advice about epidural before the hormone drip which is what a couple of people have recommended to us as well!

Good luck @MO22 xx
