Just had another scan. Baby 1 is looking fab, measuring slightly ahead, strong heartbeat. Baby 2 still has a heartbeat but it is slow and irregular and there has been little or no growth in the last week so we are expecting to lose baby 2.

SnowL2021 · 28/12/2022 11:11

Nine weeks today and had some brown discharge on wiping this morning. Had none with my son so naturally a bit concerned. Not sure whether it warrants a call to midwives/someone else or if I should keep an eye on it..

BusyBushBaby · 28/12/2022 11:12

Forgot to say I'm 8+4 today and baby 1 is now bigger than any baby I've miscarried so feeling good about that.

BusyBushBaby · 28/12/2022 11:13

@SnowL2021 I would call your midwife or epau just in case although they might well advise just to monitor.

BCxx · 28/12/2022 11:14

@BusyBushBaby good news on baby 1, sorry baby 2 didn’t have more progress ☹️ Seems surprising that there is still a heartbeat, were they expecting you may have lost baby 2 before now? Such a tough thing to go through when you have good and bad news at the same time. Hope you’re feeling okay ❤️

Amme18 · 28/12/2022 11:16

@BusyBushBaby amazing news about baby number 1 ❤️
So sorry to hear about baby no 2 - no words that could offer comfort as it’s just a shit situation! Just hope you’re doing okay xxx

BCxx · 28/12/2022 11:17

@SnowL2021 I’m no expert but the positive news is you’re quite far on, I think I’d be more worried if I was 5/6 weeks and also good news it’s not bright red blood so I don’t think I’d be panicking.. it’s probably just a bit of old blood that’s taken a while to come away. Won’t do any harm to speak to your midwife about it just in case though. Hopefully it’s nothing

SnowL2021 · 28/12/2022 11:22

@BusyBushBaby Thanks for the advice and great you’re happy with the scan.

The midwives have told me it’s quite normal for this point and to only ring the GP if it turns bright red. Feel like I’m going to be on edge the rest of today! Thankfully my booking apt is on Friday so I can discuss any concerns then.

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 11:45

@SnowL2021 I’ve had two episodes of this now. Firstly pink progressing to brown the same day at 6+2. Then pink again last week at 8+4. I’ve also been told it’s normal and that it’s only actual blood that’s a concern. I know how worrying it is though. I’ve been on edge for a while each time. As @BCxx says, we’re getting quite far on now and the odds by this point are good.

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 11:57

@BusyBushBaby Must indeed be very hard to get both good and bad news at the same time. So pleased Baby 1 is doing well. Do you have another scan booked?

Chocolotandtea · 28/12/2022 12:55

@Cat1424 i have been having the occasional pregnancy safe antihistamine to help me sleep if I’m desperate and it’s been a few nights. This is really not ideal because a) I feel guilty and b) I worry that this isn’t solving anything as if I went to breastfeed then I can’t take them then. But I’ve honestly felt like I’m going to break and just need one good nights sleep after a few nights to reset

Bec0303 · 28/12/2022 13:21

Hi lovelies - I'm approx 5 +4 and still having mild cramps/aches that very much feel like early period pains. I've read that this is normal but have been feeling this way for over a week now, so just looking for some reassurance! I'm also very much going to be getting some Fybogel as things just are not moving and Im so uncomfortable (sorry, TMI!!)

I've not booked any scans yet or anything, am assuming someone will ring me regarding my booking appt in the new year (I've self referred through NHS) but probs going to book a private scan around 8 weeks/end of Jan. Has anyone else planned to do this?

Thanks :)

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 14:03

@Bec0303 I had a lot of period-like cramps early on too. They were quite scary and there was kind point where I was pretty much convinced it was all over. It settled down after about 6 weeks though. Hopefully this will be the case for you too.

Butterflies12 · 28/12/2022 14:16

Hi everyone, had a scan today following the spotting that started Xmas eve. Baby was fine and measuring 9+1 which is about right. It was an abdominal scan and I even got a printed photo. Obviously I burst into tears immediately upon seeing the heartbeat and the sonographer telling me everything looks perfectly fine. I'm so relieved. I still have the spotting, it's pink to orange and noticeable once or twice a day when wiping or sometimes when my progesterone pessaries come out. I've just been to my midwife to have my bloods etc taken and she's sent off a swab to test for thrush as that could be the cause of the spotting.
I'm holding on to the fact that the baby looks fine, measuring correctly and there was no sign of anything in my uterus that could be causing spotting or bleeding. Mantra: today I am pregnant and spotting has not changed that.
Feel really exhausted and sick now so spending the rest of the day on the sofa.

@BusyBushBaby I hope you're ok x

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 14:40

So glad all is OK @Butterflies12 . That sounds very positive. My spotting has completely stopped now and so I haven’t had a scan. I’m thinking I’ll probably hold off until 12 weeks now but we’ll see how things go until then.

Owlgirl14 · 28/12/2022 14:55

@Bec0303 I'm 5+1 and thinking of getting a private scan around 8 weeks as just don't think we can wait until 12 weeks to know it is all progressing ok.

ChloeN · 28/12/2022 15:05

@Butterflies12 what fab news, so pleased baby was all good xx

Cat1424 · 28/12/2022 15:43

@Bec0303 the cramps seem to be normal, I had them up until a couple of days ago and now they’re very intermittent (I’m around 7+4) and I was panicking they’d stopped!

I am in the same boat as your RE NHS, I self referred as per my GPs request and got acknowledgement on 14th December and I still haven’t heard anything (hoping it’s partly due to Christmas!) so for that reason we’ve booked for an 8 week scan as it’s our first baby and we can’t wait potentially another month to know if everything is ok! If you’re worrying about things I would recommend as although I’m nervous for mine I will be so glad once it done and I know either way.

Cat1424 · 28/12/2022 15:45

Hello ladies,

Just an update on M&S bras if anyone is looking for maternity bras. I went for my fitting this morning and the lady was incredibly knowledgable about what I needed and what would last me the longest (at best guess). I’ve come away with 3 properly fitted bras for £20 which I thought was a bargain! So if anyone is looking for some comfort in the bra department I would recommend M&S.

sally16 · 28/12/2022 15:56

@Butterflies12 if it makes you feel better my friend also had spotting varying pink to orange and hers was thrush!
Was just poor timing but once it was cleared up she didn't have any more :)

Congrats on the scan 💙💙💙

marleyandme · 28/12/2022 16:03

@Cat1424 that's really helpful thank you! Was it a multipack you bought? Also were they nursing ones?
I've been reading that boobs grow in the first trimester and then should stop until milk comes in so I'm wondering whether to think about getting some nursing ones in case that's something I do but not sure if it'll be a waste of money and see if I can make my current ones last longer! I've gone up a cup size already and the soreness is settling down I hope 😊

Anyone else with experience of this have any advice? I was 32D pre pregnancy if that context helps 😂

BCxx · 28/12/2022 16:09

@marleyandme i think from what I remember my boobs went bigger in the first few weeks of pregnancy then only grew slightly more than that over the course of the pregnancy, it was more changes like veins being really noticeable. When I woke up on day 3 after baby was born though - OMG! 😂 literally like two huge footballs had been shoved on my chest, it was hysterical! So I wasn’t sure my nursing bras I’d bought would actually still fit. They did in the end but I have no idea how 🙈 I gave up quite quickly with breastfeeding last time and moved to formula but I think this time I’m going to aim to give it a go for a bit longer as I’ll hopefully be more confident and less shell shocked about the entire thing!

Cat1424 · 28/12/2022 16:11

@marleyandme no problem! Yes got a multi pack, they ended up just turning out to be the comfiest! The lady at my appointment said that there wasn’t much point me looking at nursing bras yet (I’m 7+4) as I still have a long way to go and they might not be the right fit come august.

I’ve gone from a 36D to a 38DD in the ones I bought, although one of the styles I tried on a was a 40DD so I think it depends on the style etc. i just went for comfort to be honest 😂

BCxx · 28/12/2022 16:13

@Butterflies12 good news about the scan, congratulations! 😊

blondebanana · 28/12/2022 16:18

@Bec0303 I've had mild cramps on off for the last 2 weeks (I'm 5+4) - apparently it's pretty normal. I've booked a private scan at 7 weeks!
