@CityKity Thanks, mine doesn't have vitamin A in as already checked. So they should be ok for now, but will check when I am able to. The doctors is finally open tomorrow so will give them a ring.

sprollie11 · 27/12/2022 20:37

I'm also anxious about telling work, as I only started at the end of Aug and I have a 6 month probationary period. Has anyone ever told their employer they're pregnant whilst still in their probationary period?

Also my work doesn't appear to have a maternity pay/leave policy (it's a v small charity) - does anyone know what is a "normal" policy? Do charities usually only offer stat mat pay?

marleyandme · 27/12/2022 20:44

@CityKity you have the same work dates as me! I also started my job last March. I've already told my boss as I wanted someone at work to know in case of any horrible symptoms and I felt if anything goes wrong I want him to understand too. He took it really well and I feel well supported.
Thanks to whoever had the tip of taking some fibre supplements as they were bloated. I've felt so full for ages and took a fybogel sachet and already feel much better, still bloated but I could actually eat dinner!

BCxx · 27/12/2022 21:13

I live off weetabix morning and night again when ‘it’ gets bad 😂 did the same after having my section last time and it kept me right!

I got my maternity bras from H&M last time and still wear some of them. Going to get some new ones this time! Think the other ones were just M&S

@DesertSnow was thinking about your reveal! So glad it went well 😊 must of been so good!

BCxx · 27/12/2022 21:16

Survived Christmas dinner round 2 with the in-laws tonight. I was driving so said I’d have a soft drink. FIL had got me wine and was adamant I should just have one glass.. had to keep saying no 😂 MIL had made Christmas pudding and forced me to have a piece. It wasn’t until I was biting into it that she said she’d used a whole bottle of rum in it! I made eye contact with my husband by mistake and basically spat it out 🤣 said ‘oh yeah it’s lovely, just not my cup of tea, I prefer plain sponge’ 🙈

DesertSnow · 27/12/2022 22:32

@BCxx ha I hear you, on the 23rd and on Xmas Eve before we did the reveal my FIL was getting offended that I wouldn't even have one glass of wine. Think he's forgiven me now! 😂

AnnieApple123 · 27/12/2022 22:46

@BCxx and @DesertSnow It must be so awkward with all these relatives who don’t know.

My dad does know but still somehow keeps forgetting and offering me Buck’s Fizz every five minutes. 🤦‍♀️

VickiGo · 27/12/2022 23:29

Evening all, hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas break! I think I'm just over 8 weeks gone at the moment and I do believe, after boasting to my family that I'd had no morning sickness, that it's finally caught up with me! Anyone got any secret remedies? Haven't had any toast yet but will have some for breakfast in the morn if I can stomach it. Hope everyone's okay?

BCxx · 28/12/2022 00:13

@DesertSnow haha it’s so hard! If we were in that situation more often I would have just told them but it’s going to be extremely easy to get to 12 weeks as they’re away a cruise for most of January! So it’s really easy just to tell them when they’re back

@AnnieApple123 haha my dad knew last time at Christmas but kept doing that really loudly as a joke in front of other people who didn’t know, could have strangled him 😂

@VickiGo I haven’t reached the sick stage yet but last time I just had to make sure I was over fed, like nowhere near hunger at any point. The worst time was when I woke up in the morning. It was like I’d learnt that’s when I might feel sick so it got in my head then I’d really struggle to walk past the bathroom to go and get breakfast without having to just dive in to be sick. It was mental as much as it was physical 😭 I didn’t try the anti-sickness bands but some people have said they’re good. I just lived on toast, biscuits, anything that was bland and stopped me reaching any hint of hunger 😂

CityKity · 28/12/2022 00:24

@marleyandme its so nice your boss has been so supportive! I’m probably overreacting and I’m sure work will be supportive too, but it’s all those opportunities that will vanish that I’m worried about a lot.
Also need bloating tips!! So will try fibre gel. This evening my belly looks huge! A combination of slight constipation and guzzling fizzy water to try and stay hydrated probably aren’t doing me any favours!

UsernameNotPresent · 28/12/2022 03:08

@CityKity I hear you on vanishing work opportunities, it's a big worry of mine too 😞 Let's hope things will turn out just fine.

For me morning sickness is worse in the night. Ugh, I am not feeling it. Eating is the only thing that keeps it at bay somewhat. I may need to resort to some dry crackers by bedside. Also bloated to the skies.

Cat1424 · 28/12/2022 04:56

Is anyone else suffering with ridiculous insomnia or can suggest anything to help with it?

Tonight has been the worst by a long stretch, had about 2 hours sleep in total and although I’m shattered I just can’t get back to sleep.

I’ve not been drinking anything containing caffeine so it can’t be that and I’ve been going to the gym to try help but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference either. I go back to work next week and I have no idea how I’m going to function!

Jadeelx · 28/12/2022 05:59

@Cat1424 sorry to read about the insomnia, that sounds tough! I’ve been having trouble sleeping, I seem to be in a habbit of waking up around 1&5 and it takes (what feels like) hours to get back to sleep. Luckily I have no alarms to get up for and my kids are sleeping in a bit as going to bed later over Xmas holidays! But I feel tired from the broken sleep

marleyandme · 28/12/2022 07:00

@Cat1424 mines not quite the same but for the past few nights I've been waking around 1 and not going back to sleep til 3. I realised last night that it was discomfort causing it and I think indigestion, I took some rennie and the relief was almost instant! Sorry if this is awful advice if you're not suffering the same. Lack of sleep is so frustrating

SameDi23 · 28/12/2022 07:36

hello everyone, I’m new to mumsnet and pregnancy currently a very anxious 5w5d with minimal symptoms… (twinges on one side and sore boobs at night).

It feels very surreal to have a positive test after years of struggle, lap, hysteroscopy, and diagnosed endo. I’m really hoping this little one will stick around.

I also had Covid at 4w4d. I’m so anxious that I’m thinking of booking in for a scan…

SameDi23 · 28/12/2022 07:43

do you wake up at the same time every night, if so what time is that and how many hours after going to bed? I’ve been waking up every night at the same time and it’s worse when I’ve had a late snack. Sorry not sure if this helps at all

Owlgirl14 · 28/12/2022 08:08

I'm usually a good sleeper but waking around 5/6am every morning. Sometimes getting back to sleep after an hour or two, I think my mind is quite active though and starting to think it may just be one of the symptoms and a way to prepare us for lack of sleep!

Cat1424 · 28/12/2022 08:09

@SameDi23 Im not sure if the same time every night I try to avoid looking at the clock cause I find that keeps me awake knowing what time it is. It doesn’t seem to matter what time I go to bed, earlier in the week I was going to bed around 8pm cause I was shattered but last night I went to bed around 10.30pm to see if I could sleep through (thought maybe I was going to bed too early) and last night was worse than going at 8. I can’t think of anything that might be triggering it as I’ve stopped snacking on an evening, it’s hard enough just to get dinner down some days 😂

SameDi23 · 28/12/2022 08:35

@Cat1424 I'm not sure if this will help you but a few things I do to give me the best chances to sleep through...
cool bedroom - recently I've woken up feeling hot so have changed back to a lighter duvet (we have separate duvets to combat the duvet burrito war). When I wake up I try to immediately put a calm sleep story on and try my best to focus on that (instead of all the thoughts whirring around)
in the day I have been trying to go on longer walks and been trying to give myself more time to wind down (no screens for an hour before bed). Hope you get a full night's sleep soon!

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 08:43

Welcome @SameDi23 I had lots of one-sides twinges early on and found them quite scary. I’m 9 weeks now though and all seems to be OK.

AnnieApple123 · 28/12/2022 08:43

Hope all goes well back at work today @sally16 .

SameDi23 · 28/12/2022 08:55

@Butterflies12 good luck today! Keeping everything crossed

SameDi23 · 28/12/2022 08:56

@AnnieApple123 thank you so much for the welcome! I feel a lot calmer now after reading back through the forum and keep reminding myself that no two pregnancies are the same.

ChloeN · 28/12/2022 09:42

@SameDi23 welcome and congratulations☺️

@VickiGo i just try and eat rich tea biscuits, tbh I don’t think they help much because I still end up being sick sometimes 🤣

BCxx · 28/12/2022 10:27

6 weeks 2 days and I was sick for the first time this morning! I was way further on than this with my son when I started being sick, I’m sure it was about 8 and a half weeks. I lay in bed too long this morning so I was way too hungry by the time I got up 🤦🏼‍♀️ Hoping this isn’t the start of it but I am slightly reassured as I’ve really had no other symptoms
