We are visiting my husband's parents for a week. We just found out that my mother in law has some heart problems related to coronary artery. She is going to do some more tests. But she is 80. Now I feel that we should tell her I am pregnant in case we don't see her again.

My plan was to have a scan at 10 weeks to see if I have twins so that I can choose a suitable nipt to do immediately after. Then at 12 weeks when I have all results back I can announce. But now I am thinking I should have a reassurance scan early so we can tell them. I am 6+2 today, I could probably be able to do a scan at 6+6 the latest while we are still with my parents in law. Will it be clear that I have twins at that point?

Welcome @Marmaladebear, I think we're due date buddies (I'm 19th/20th ish)! Also feeling tired and not too nauseous, fingers crossed the nausea won't kick in too soon.

Congrats on the scan @BoodifulGoose!

VickiGo · 17/12/2022 17:00

Absolutely love reading this thread (and the previous 2!). Nice to read about other people's symptoms being due around the same time. I'm almost 7 weeks gone with my first pregnancy and haven't experienced any sickness.. yet! Many cramps, sore boobs & backache, all usual suspects. Congrats to everyone in this thread Smile

buttercupbee · 17/12/2022 17:14

@BoodifulGoose so pleased to hear your scan went well 😊

I have mine tomorrow morning!

LMM91x · 17/12/2022 17:15

Eeeeeeek good luck @buttercupbee ❤️❤️

Miraclesdohappen88 · 17/12/2022 17:16

Good luck @buttercupbee for tomorrow 🤞🤞

CityKity · 17/12/2022 17:23

@VickiGo I’ll be 7 weeks on Monday with my first too! Rock hard sore boobs around weeks 4-5 but that’s gone down now. No current big symptoms aside from loss of appetite and insanely itchy skin that I’m trying to avoid using steroids on (I have eczema sigh).

@buttercupbee good luck for tomorrow 🤞

@Createcomet good luck telling family! I’m not telling either family’s until 12weeks if possible. My mum will be a ball of worry throughout the entire pregnancy, so I’m trying to limit how long she has to worry for. I might have to tell my sister over Christmas of my not drinking is looking suspicious, but really hoping to avoid it for now. I’m enjoying having a little secret tbh and also am not looking forward to the barrage of questions that will come our way as family suddenly decide they have input on our life choices! If anything does go pear shaped it’s not the kind of thing I would share with my mum to be quite honest, we’re not close in that way sadly.

BCxx · 17/12/2022 17:30

@Createcomet we told my parents this week. I was so nervous before it 🙈 It’s our second and we just put a ‘big brother’ top on our son and sent him in. I thought they were going to be shocked but they really really weren’t 😂 My mum and sister even said they’d already discussed it when shopping a few weeks ago! Last time we told the in-laws just a few days after but my MIL tells everyone everyone else’s business and I really wasn’t convinced she didn’t tell people last time. She also hasn’t ever helped with our son or even offered to babysit or anything for us so it’s not like she’s really involved in our day to day life. I’m viewing it just now as if I had bad news (worst case scenario) it would be surrounding my health, not my husband’s and so if it was anything else bad that happened to me health-wise I definitely wouldn’t go and tell her. She just likes gossip too much unfortunately 🤦🏼‍♀️ So we’ll tell them at 12 weeks! She will no doubt ask if my mum knows and I think I’ll just have to say ‘yeah we just told them’ or something vague

VickiGo · 17/12/2022 17:32

@CityKity ah congratulations! I feel you on the loss of appetite! Trying to maintain regular meals but nothing I look at is at all appealing at the moment! Hopefully the docs will be able to point you in the right direction of something to use to ease the itching, must be so frustrating x

CityKity · 17/12/2022 17:39

@VickiGo thank you! The doctor was actually so useless I cried after getting off the call. He was so rude and asked what I expected him to do for me, and when I asked about the safety of my usual steroids in pregnancy he told me to look it up on the box!
I think I’m going to try and get a private dermatology appointment but tbh even if they sign off me using my steroids I’m still at the point that I’d rather try everything else (less harmful) first.
Im desperate for this mythical pregnancy glow to show up soon and heal my skin!

VickiGo · 17/12/2022 18:15

@CityKity that's absolutely awful. They should be there to advise you rather than alienate you whilst pregnant! Completely understand about being reluctant about the steroids, hopefully you find something that works for you, maybe a pharmacist would be more forthcoming than your horrible GP!

Rachm12 · 17/12/2022 18:46

Hi all, I’ve been reading all the messages since the beginning but decided to finally write a post about my experience so far and how quickly things can change.

I had a scan today and it dated me at 7w3d, strong heartbeat and all healthy which was amazing to see. Think my due date is the 2nd atm!!

I did have a first scan at 6w3d and although there was an embryo, there was no heartbeat. Ive been a bit concerned as I saw that some other people saw heartbeats that early and I was measuring smaller than I expected given the dates. Fast forward to today and the embryo has actually tripled in size in a week and caught up a bit from where it was plus now has a heartbeat!

Also, when I found out I was pregnant until about 6 weeks I had a lot of cramping down my left hand-side. I also had bleeding after I did exercise, which I stopped immediately and took it easy. At my first scan, they identified quite a large subchorionic hematoma, and told me to rest and not do any rigorous exercise until it was absorbed by the body. Obviously I started madly googling it and prepared myself for 9 months of no exercise and rest etc. When I went back today, it had almost completely gone save for a small patch. Maybe I could get another one but the fact it’s nearly gone for the time being is a relief!

Just a post to say a lot can change and stay positive :)

Wishing everyone happy healthy pregnancies x

VickiGo · 17/12/2022 18:50

@Rachm12 congrats on the pregnancy, and what a lovely message. Wish you a healthy pregnancy throughout Smile

TheBirdintheCave · 17/12/2022 18:58

@Rachm12 That's great news! :)

Sjw30 · 17/12/2022 18:58

@Rachm12 Congratulations and how lovely ☺️

Nic2908 · 17/12/2022 19:20

Shamelessly place marking whilst I catch up xxxx

buttercupbee · 17/12/2022 19:27

@LMM91x @Miraclesdohappen88 @CityKity thank you ladies xx

@Rachm12 that’s amazing news, what a relief!

Chocolotandtea · 17/12/2022 19:31

@BoodifulGoose so delighted to hear that your scan went well and you seen a tiny little baby and tiny little heartbeat! So happy for you ❤️

Chocolotandtea · 17/12/2022 19:32

@TheBirdintheCave so glad you’re still here! I know how anxious you’re feeling about this so I’m delighted to see you’ve not disappeared ❤️

Chocolotandtea · 17/12/2022 19:33

For the ladies who have done this before, when does the nausea stop? I throughly regret complaining about my lack of earlier symptoms

Chocolotandtea · 17/12/2022 19:34

Congrats @Rachm12 and what a lovely post ❤️

buttercupbee · 17/12/2022 19:39

@Chocolotandtea omg me too 🙈 I haven’t been sick yet but the nausea is horrible. I know I need to eat to keep it at bay but just don’t fancy anything!

BCxx · 17/12/2022 19:40

Congratulations @Rachm12 i think my scan is 6 weeks 4 or 5 days so i have tried to prepare myself that there might be no heartbeat but I know I will still be so anxious if there’s not!

@Chocolotandtea pretty much around my 12 week scan was when it stopped for me, it didn’t properly start until about 8 weeks for me last time though and weeks 9/10 were pretty bad. This time I’m already having that extreme hunger/sicky feeling and I’m only 5 weeks

TheBirdintheCave · 17/12/2022 20:24

@Chocolotandtea Yep still trundling along. I've been referred to the perinatal mental health team so hopefully I'll hear from them next week.

TheBirdintheCave · 17/12/2022 20:25

@Chocolotandtea Oh and re the nausea question I was massively unlucky in this department. With my son it ran from week six to week nineteen. I think the peak was between week 9-15.

This time around its started later but is following a similar pattern.
