Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@Alexandra07 also I never had issues with birthday parties...all my friends seemed to be around at the end of August and my best friend was actually an Aug baby too and we used to have joint parties when we were older! It certainly wasn't an issue for me anyway.

Sorry to all those getting hit with more sickness - it's one of those things where I miss it when it's not there (in case something has gone wrong) but hate it when it's present.

DS and I have been laid low with what I now suspect is not just a cold (both of us with fevers yesterday which made me worried about miscarriage risk), but one thing I kind of appreciated was that the lack of taste and smell meant my nausea went away. Now coming back and worried that Christmas will be pretty unbearable (I'm a really keen cook and love food, and love all the food around Christmas).

Mulner88 · 16/12/2022 18:02

I got my flu vaccine about 3 weeks ago through work- I always get it every year for work so this year was no different. I'm going to get my Covid booster but think I will wait until 2nd trimester, although I know it's safe anytime. I had my booking app today and the midwife said booster is safe anytime but some people prefer to maybe wait for 2nd trimester as the babies organs are fully developed by then, but to be honest I don't really think that makes a difference at all and may even get it before then as I'm afraid of catching it.

Re my symptoms- I just feel so bleughhh at the moment. Don't know how to describe it. I have this underlying nauseous feeling, my stomach feels bloated and sickly, I'm so tired I feel I can't even concentrate on watching the TV past 8pm and I just don't have an appetite for anything. These symptoms have really ramped up this week and looking forward for it to pass. I just hope I can tuck into my Christmas dinner as normal 😂 luckily, I haven't actually vomited, but just a mild ish nauseous feeling throughout the day, esp in the evenings.

Amme18 · 16/12/2022 18:46

Re covid/flu I’m not really sure what to do either now, hadn’t really thought of it as a risk before. Although I think maybe the risk of getting flu/covid is as much a risk to baby (if not more) as the vaccine side effects. The risk is how likely you are to catch either I suppose for the right thing to do?

Sickness is awful, I think eating will help and it does for the time I’m eating then immediately feel sick again. Actually been sick a few times now 😭 definitely worse than DS.

I won’t be deferring my current 28th July baby, he’s SO ready for school! He’s also a 98th percentile child…if I keep him back a year he’ll be a giant 😅 But also he’s been at a small nursery since he was 7 months old, he recently moved to a bigger pre school as he was so ready for that and he’s loving it.

heand2022 · 16/12/2022 19:25

Is anyone just having nausea/sickness in the evening? 7 o'clock hits and I'm just absolutely gagging and been sick 2 nights in a row now at this time. I spend all day worrying that I have 0 symptoms and then this hits 🙃

somuchtolearnabout · 16/12/2022 19:35

@Mulner88 every single thing you've just said re symptoms is literally me right now. It's absolutely horrible. I had zero sickness in my other pregnancies so this has hit me like a ton of bricks

Sienna9522 · 16/12/2022 19:42

@PumpkinEverything that sounds really lovely and dare I say it, got me a little bit excited 😆 I’d love a third girl. I can definitely see my eldest taking on the role that you did. X

BCxx · 16/12/2022 19:48

@ArcEnCiel2022 oh gosh that’s awful! Definitely seems like it could be more than a coincidence when it’s happened to multiple people I’ve spoken to but it’s still all so new so there’s no real way of knowing. It’s hard not to scare people but you’ve just got to go on the information you have and you know how you react to certain things. I’ve just seen this now or I might have thought twice but I went for the flu vaccine, had to say about 10 times it was only the flu one I was having and not the covid one

BCxx · 16/12/2022 19:50

@Amme18 I think it’s the whole covid vaccine discussion that made me think twice about it but I ended up going for my flu vaccine tonight. I’m not even 5 weeks and need to phone next week before Christmas to arrange a book appointment so thought I’d be as well having it before they ask if I have but I won’t be having the covid one, purely because I didn’t with my son so want to give them both the same risks/benefits just in case 🙈

jollydollyirl · 16/12/2022 19:56

That's soo interesting @ArcEnCiel2022 about your blood clots! I would always pass a few on my period too and am also taking low dose aspirin this time around. Are you getting/did you get the flu vaccine?

Mulner88 · 16/12/2022 20:02

@heand2022 yes me!!! It's so much worse in the evening. Right now I'm feeling terrible with nausea. I had to force myself to eat but was a struggle. I feel like I will get sick any minute. During the day it's not so bad at all, just a little bit in the background. Very strange how for some of us, it's worse in the evening. Glad I'm not alone. Have you found anything that helps in the evening? I try to have ginger tea but not sure it's making much difference.

@somuchtolearnabout it makes me feel better when people are experiencing it too 🙈 this is my first baby and wanted the nausea, but now I definitely want rid of it!! 😂

BCxx · 16/12/2022 20:03

@Chocolotandtea kicking myself that I didn’t get the flu vaccine when we were trying, this situation was inevitable 🙈 I went and got it tonight, I had it just before I got pregnant last time so wanted to have had it again. My mum kept saying maybe it wasn’t a good idea to go today but I thought if I didn’t go now when I’m 5 weeks it will then have a heartbeat and il overthink that and end up wanting to leave it til the second trimester but by then itl be spring 😂 so I just went and got it. The people at the drop in centre were triple checking I didn’t want the covid one but my last booster was in may just before I went on holiday luckily so I’ll surely still have some protection from that. It’s such a personal decision and there’s risks either way it seems

Amme18 · 16/12/2022 20:04

@BCxx yes totally get the equal opportunities thing with the kids 🤣 as if mum guilt wasn’t all too real with one I’ve now got to navigate fairness guilt!

BCxx · 16/12/2022 20:05

My first pregnant Christmas night out tomorrow night! I think I’m going to get there before everyone and get a drink then at one point in the night say I’m not drinking any more due to plans on Sunday morning, so I’ve ticked the not pregnant box of having been (pretend) drinking and won’t raise suspicions without having to act drunk 😂

BCxx · 16/12/2022 20:07

@Amme18 totally! If this all comes back on me in 20 years time at least I can say I did the same for both 😂 it was only a month to go when I was pregnant when they changed the advice and said actually you should have the covid vaccine but their hand break turn put me off so I wasn’t risking it for the sake of a few weeks left. Literally held my breath and hid the entire time 😂

heand2022 · 16/12/2022 20:15

@Mulner88 I haven't found anything yet. I barely feel pregnant during the day, just the odd tugging/pulling feeling in my stomach and then achy boobs every now and again. Then boom 7 o'clock and I just sit waiting to be sick. I'm terrible for being sick when I'm hungover and usually extra strong mints are my saviour - going to buy a few packs and see if they can sort me out!

BoodifulGoose · 16/12/2022 20:18

@AnnieApple123 wondering would it maybe be a good idea to create a new thread soon and post the link to it in here before it fills up so people can follow us through? 😊 We're so talkative 😂

Mulner88 · 16/12/2022 20:26

@heand2022 I also saw a YouTube video (can't remember who) but sucking on werther's originals helped them so I'm going to buy a pack tomorrow and see if that helps! Oh yeh sucking on mints might help too. Even the thoughts of eating dry crackers makes me want to 🥴 so I'm not really finding them that helpful.

@BoodifulGoose yeh it's such a talkative group which is really good!! ☺️

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 21:14

@BCxx Yes I’m also experiencing irrational thoughts about trying to keep things fair for siblings. I didn’t have an early scan with DS which is I think partly influencing my decision not to have one this time either (unless anything concerning happens before I reach 12 weeks).

ArcEnCiel2022 · 16/12/2022 21:26

@BCxx Yes, it's really difficult to know what is the best thing to do... I felt pressured last year to get my booster, and the GP and midwife told me that there had been some studies, and it was safe (but all that was still so new...), so I just trusted them. And indeed, many pregnant women had it, and were fine, but some others like me were not, and we don't know if it's a coincidence or not... When I tried to talk about it to my GP, he was not interested at all, he just said that miscarriage is so common, it's just bad luck and I shouldn't try to find an explanation... So this time I won't take the risk, and hope I won't get Covid. But I had it not too long ago so hopefully I still have some antibodies!

@jollydollyirl I didn't get the flu vaccine yet, and I haven't really decided if I will... What about you? Were you prescribed the low dose aspirin or did you decide to take it yourself?

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 21:36

@BoodifulGoose Sure, of course, anyone feel free to start a new thread once we get close to the end. And good idea to link back here.

I was wondering whether you have any good anxiety management tips to share from your therapist? I have a therapist I’ve been talking to on and off for a few years now. Yet, during my first pregnancy, I actually didn’t talk to her at all in the first trimester. I felt like either the pregnancy was going to work out or it wasn’t and having a long discussion with her every week about how I’d handle the latter situation was probably just going to increase my anxiety. This is possibly a sign that she’s not the right person but I’ve been thinking the same this time. I did contact her to let her know I’d tested positive but haven’t booked any appointments with her since. Come to think of it, I ought to send her an update and Xmas message next week…

I feel like I’ve been so indecisive about everything in this pregnancy. I’ve ummed and ahhhed to ridiculous lengths over whether to have an early scan, where to book maternity care, whether to have vaccines…

Hi ladies,

sorry been so quiet I’ve had a crap few days at work, strep a and that’s all I’m going to say. Consequently I’ve lived off chocolate and cups of tea. I feel so guilty, my first I did everything by the book and I looked after myself. Currently I’m neglecting myself never mind a baby. So I’m really struggling.

I found sucking on a Sherbert lemons and blackcurrant and liquorice were my absolute saviours last time.

I think vaccinating is personal choice, I’ve already had both of mine pre pregnancy however I would have had the flu one pregnant but I am not convinced about the covid vaccine. How many weeks is everyone now? I think I am 5+2ish?

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 22:19

@Nic2908 Hope you’re feeling better now. I also feel some guilt that I’m not being as ‘good’ as I was in my first pregnancy. It’s so much easier to do things well when you don’t have other children to think about. I’m now 7.5 weeks and one of the furthest along I think. We must be coming to the end of August due dates now nearly?

I had a scan at 8 and 10 weeks last time private and tbh the 8 week one wasn't amazing.. the 10 week one though, oh my goodness I still remember seeing his little arms waving!
I'm not sure DH would be up for as many private ones this time though due to the cost increase though 😅
I'm trying not too go crazy but they are so addictive!! I love having scans and seeing the wee baby grow!
My friends just found out she's having twins and im now stressing what if I do 🤣

DesertSnow · 16/12/2022 22:28

@buttercupbee I normally have such a sweet tooth, but now I only want savoury things. Never been so interested in crisps before! If that old wives tale is true about cravings/aversions, I'm definitely having a boy!

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow, so I guess I'm one of the slightly further along ones? Got my booking appointment on Monday morning, then a private scan in the evening. I'm irrationally worried that something will be wrong, but I guess everyone feels a bit like that? Just praying it's all ok. I know it won't look like a baby, just want reassurance re. location, heartbeat, growth etc.

Had one really awful day of nausea this week, the others have been more managable - snacking seems to keep the worst of it at bay but I'm definitely not being as healthy as I usually am.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Anyone else got an early scan coming up in the next few days?
