Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@BCxx I doubt that they have many women claiming to be pregnant just to get the vaccine! I had my flu jab before my bfp. I had the Covid booster at 5 weeks and all was good. I wanted everything done before holidays and all the gatherings.

A bit of urgency has just come over me to get my flu vaccine before I’m any further on. I’ll be 5 weeks on Monday so thinking it could have a heartbeat after that and I know it’s safe to get the flu one anytime but would rather just do it before it could affect any wee person in there 🙈 Otherwise I’ll end up putting it off and off. Is anyone waiting til 12 weeks for theirs? I don’t think I’d think twice about it if it wasn’t for all the covid stuff. My cousin had a miscarriage the day after she got her covid one but that was most likely just pure coincidence as they’ve been proven safe to get, I’m just a bit on edge now about either! There’s a drop in on til 7pm tonight and it says pregnant women can just turn up so I think I’m going to go there. Although what’s to stop any random person just saying they’re pregnant so they get a free flu vaccine? 🤣

@BCxx Yes that thought has occurred to me too about anyone just showing up and saying they’re pregnant! I admittedly still haven’t done anything about vaccines. I‘ve not been feeling a great urgency as we’re barely going out at the moment. Xmas will be just us and my parents as all other family are abroad.

@BCxx just had mine done at 7+3 earlier this week, the placenta hasn't taken over yet, so we don't share a blood supply yet it's pretty self sufficient so I felt better doing it now than at 12 weeks when we're fully integrated together

BoodifulGoose · 16/12/2022 15:40

I don't think people care enough about the flu vaccine to claim they're pregnant when they're not and if they care that much to lie then they should probably just get it

buttercupbee · 16/12/2022 15:41

@Mulner88 so pleased to hear your scan went ok! I have mine on Sunday and I’m a mixture of excited and nervous 🙈

7+3 today and the nausea has finally started 🤢 I’ve been trying to eat as soon as it comes on (even when I don’t feel like eating) and so far I haven’t been sick yet thankfully! Also I normally have such a sweet tooth but I haven’t touched chocolate for days, all I want is savoury! Is anyone else the same?

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 15:42

@buttercupbee Yes, me! I’m even off drinking apple juice.

@AnnieApple123 ahhh I forgot englands got a different system 🤦🏼‍♀️ everyone in Scotland gets 30 hours free childcare when they turn 3.. regardless of income etc so it would just continue as normal for us before school xx
It's pretty poor it's not uk wide, I'm so happy to not be paying nursery next month, will be able to put money aside again 😅

somuchtolearnabout · 16/12/2022 15:44

@AnnieApple123 I'm at home too, DC go to nursery 2 days a week though (for my sanity!) so we would save on nursery fees but they're going to independent school anyway, so it's not necessarily from a cost perspective, it's more that I just feel like based on my 3yo, going to school only seems like it'll benefit him. I can't see any any positives to deferring (unless of course there are developmental delays, or extenuating reasons whereby school is just not the right environment for them yet) but I think that's case by case and definitely not necessary for most kids I know. I'm absolutely open to learning about it though and if there's benefits to deferring that I've not considered

@sally16 Goodness, everyone? That’s fantastic.

@buttercupbee Yes I feel like absolutely sh*t quite frankly. Just constant nausea regardless of whether I'm eating or not. I've got my Christmas meal with my girlfriends tonight, they know I'm pregnant but I'm dreading the smell of the restaurant already. Queasy

sally16 · 16/12/2022 15:49

@AnnieApple123 yeh it's excellent!
We don't have as much access to under 3 free childcare though unless you get lucky with he criteria!
I only use 22 hours a week though so I don't need to find childcare in school holidays and can use longer days for working :) when on mat leave I'll be changing it to short days I think though 🤞🏻

BCxx · 16/12/2022 15:50

@Alexandra07 I know I think I’m just going to feel like a fraud saying/whispering ‘I’m pregnant’ in the middle of a drop in Centre when I don’t look pregnant at all!

@BoodifulGoose yeah that’s a good point, I wish I’d just got one last month like what I did coming into the winter last time when I found out not long after

@AnnieApple123 yeah that’s the same as me this year really but everyone around me seems to be ill. I think I just want it because I know I’d already had it last time and nothing bad happened to us!

ArcEnCiel2022 · 16/12/2022 15:57

@BCxx I personnaly won't get any vaccine during the first trimester. Like your cousin, last December my miscarriage started the day after I got my booster, I was between 10 and 11 weeks. I don't want to scare anyone though! It could be a coincidence, doctors recommend it, and having Covid would be bad too. But in my case, I'm not risking that to happen again: I'm pretty sure I have a tendency to have blood clots (I always get a lot in my period, and a few blood tests this year showed high platelets, which means raised risk of blood clots), and I think the vaccine could have provoked one and induced the miscarriage? I will never know! I'm taking low dose aspirin this time, and I hope it will make a difference.

Alexandra07 · 16/12/2022 16:00

@BCxx 🤣 I also felt the same! I was thinking, what if someone I know enters the pharmacy while explaining I want the Covid jab because I'm pregnant! The girl who took my details said she had to check if I can have it because I'm not over 50, then heard her saying to the pharmacist my age and that I am pregnant, asking if I can have it. That was at the shop floor! She wasn't very discreet! Luckily the pharmacist didn't ask me twice.

ChloeN · 16/12/2022 16:07

@somuchtolearnabout i find going out makes me feel sick rather than just the food. I think it’s the fear of being sick at the table 🤣

They’d go to school for the same number of years in total, just starting a year later. So school fees would be the same overall but you’d have an extra year of whatever you’re paying in nursery fees when they’re aged 4-5 (assuming it’s not covered by the 15 free hours, as that continues). Not all private schools are open to flexible starts - it’s up to each one individually and there’s a lot of variation. Not sure where you are but I think you said you’re moving to Dubai?

My personal feeling is that we start formal education very young in England - especially relative to other parts of the world - and that the school starting age was set quite arbitrarily. ‘Up Start’ by Sue Palmer is a great book to read on this if you’re interested.

Most summer-borns do absolutely fine though and it likely won’t make a long-term difference whatever you do.

@SnowL2021 I got my 12 week appointment in the post today. Despite the trust being huge, I don’t have a website/app to access (that I know of), so it’s being a very analog experience so far.

@buttercupbee Im usually more of a savoury sweet person, but I absolutely can’t stand anything sweet at the moment either!

Im really anxious, still no sickness aside from very mild nausea in the evening. Im 7 weeks on Monday so will be 7/8 weeks when I’m staying with family over Christmas and am dreading actually being sick as I’ll have no idea how to hide it in they’re company. I have a small family and we spend a lot of time together over Christmas, so I’m just hoping any proper sickness just delays until that’s over!

Chocolotandtea · 16/12/2022 16:36

Oh gosh, I have my flu and covid vaccines booked for next week when I will be just shy of 8 weeks but now don’t know if I should cancel it. Is there ever an actual good time to get it??

I know nobody can tell me what to do but also can someone please tell me what to do 🙈

PumpkinEverything · 16/12/2022 16:45

@Alexandra07 im an august baby 😊 I can’t comment on the school year thing as it’s different in NI and I was 5 and one of the oldest when I started school (so also 18 before my friends). But I honestly don’t remember ever missing out on parties or anything or have any bad memories of it so I’m not sure what my mum did, but I always had a party!

yep @Sienna9522 im close to both of them 😊 I have to say they are both very close with each other, but also they butt heads a lot 😂 whereas I’m the older sister and the boss so they don’t dare mess or argue with me really haha. I actually quite like the gap as when I got my first jobs I used to take them out into town and bring them for lunch which was nice. And then as they got older (they’re 25/26 now) it’s been fun to be able to drink with them too!

ArcEnCiel2022 · 16/12/2022 16:50

@CityKity I'm in the same situation! I will be 8 weeks on Christmas day, I hope I won't feel too bad and able to enjoy the time (and food) with my family 😐 like you I have no sickness at the moment, just some nausea when I wake up, and again a bit in the afternoon, but it's really not bad.

PumpkinEverything · 16/12/2022 16:51

@buttercupbee I’m def more savoury too! And I’m normally a very sweet tooth, chocolate every day type of person. Apparently savoury cravings is the sign of a boy 👀
@AnnieApple123 I feel like I’m going off diluted juice! I’m not a fan of it at all right now and normally have some with my dinner as a change from water

@CityKity I had no sickness at all with my daughter so you may skip it 😊

@Chocolotandtea if I hadn’t got mine before I was pregnant I would still go and get them now. There just seems to be so much going about and I really don’t want to feel even worse with the flu! Both my mum and sister had it and people from work and they could barely leave bed, so it’s what made me go and get the flu jab to begin with! I haven’t got the covid booster yet just because I wasn’t offered it

Chocolotandtea · 16/12/2022 16:54

@PumpkinEverything will you get the covid booster now? I really should have got the flu vaccine ages ago, what an idiot

Surprised90 · 16/12/2022 17:14

Hi everyone,

I’ve been checking in on the first thread wondering where everyone had gone! 😅

Fatigue and mood swings have been real but feeling better today - 6 weeks only but feel like I have know for ages!

I had my covid booster at 14 weeks with my first baby and she’s a happy healthy 1 year old now but I understand everyone’s reservations. I guess we are at a different point in the pandemic risk-wise which might help with decision making.

I haven't heard a word about booking apps or anything yet but it’s still early.

Sjw30 · 16/12/2022 17:35

I’m quite keen on having my flu jab as early as poss as I work in a hospital and it’s quite rife at the moment, but I’m not sure when is best to get it either. I asked when I rang for my booking appointment but was just told I’d get this information on my booking appointment 🤔

Mulner88 · 16/12/2022 17:39

@Alexandra07 yes I was born at the end of August and although I had no problems in school etc, it was slightly annoying that I constantly had to worry about getting into places that sold alcohol, but overall it never really was a major issue. There were always ways and means to get around that 😂 I was 18 going to Uni so that was the most important thing and could socialise till my hearts content then 🤣
