Can’t believe we’re onto a second thread already. Hope this doesn’t put any newbies off, as I don’t think we’re even halfway through possible due dates yet. Anyone welcome to join in.

I wanted to start off by reassuring TheBirdintheCave that I have no nausea either and had none whatsoever all through my last pregnancy. Thinking of you and hoping your current fears turn out to be for nothing. xx

@LBF2020 Mine was better yesterday but much worse today. It started last week and was just a little but now it lasts all day and I have food aversions. No throwing up yet but that was the same as with my son. I vommed very infrequently but the nausea was endless.

LBF2020 · 16/12/2022 11:13

@PumpkinEverything I'm hoping it doesn't last for long as it's making me no fun to be around 🤣

@TheBirdintheCave sorry yours is worse today too. Even thinking about food makes me feel sick and actually even no food things are making me feel sick.

I hope we all feel better over the weekend 💐

TheBirdintheCave · 16/12/2022 11:14

@LBF2020 I actually love it 😂

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 11:17

We’ve had snow since Monday. I’m so fed up with it now.

I’m currently on a hiatus from Facebook. While we’re on the subject though, here’s the link to the group for flexible school starts for summer born children. It’s an excellent resource.

@AnnieApple123 Same. I had to walk to get my son from childcare last night and was so slow and it was ridiculously icy. I was terrified I was going to slip.

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 11:38

@TheBirdintheCave I’m terrified of this too so DS and I have literally just been staying at home as there’s nowhere we actually need to go. We’ve both got dreadful cabin fever now and have been relying on screens far too much. I was really good with limiting screens until I got pregnant but now that’s all gone of the window.

PumpkinEverything · 16/12/2022 12:43

I’m the same with the ice. Haven’t been on a walk in about a week now, and normally I’m out everyday. Also have only driven in the car once as I’m scared of that too 🙈 getting my husband to do all the driving or else I’ll just stay in the house. At least it’s Christmas and the tree makes it all cosy

TheBirdintheCave · 16/12/2022 12:54

@PumpkinEverything We don't have a tree :( I just wasn't brave enough to buy one and I was so excited about it this year too 😭

somuchtolearnabout · 16/12/2022 13:06

I wouldn't defer an August baby unless it really seemed as though they were nowhere near ready for school. My 3yo turns 4 at the end of April and he's definitely ready for school, so based on that I can't see myself ever deferring unless this baby is noticeably behind? Although admittedly I've not given it too much though, it would save a years school fees though 😂

Has anyone else thought much about it?

somuchtolearnabout · 16/12/2022 13:13

I'm also feeling low key nauseous pretty much all day. Not enough to actually be sick yet, but food aversions are so real and i never had anything like this before. I can't even open the fridge anymore, I had to get a can of sparkling water earlier to try and settle my tummy but even opening the fridge sent me reeling back across the kitchen. I can't stomach anything smelly, a jacket potato with beans really hit the spot last night and any sort of fruit also helps.

TheBirdintheCave · 16/12/2022 13:21

@somuchtolearnabout No I wouldn't defer. I can't afford another year of childcare 😂

CityKity · 16/12/2022 13:33

@somuchtolearnabout I wouldn’t defer either, another £24k of childcare?! Absolutely no way!

@PumpkinEverything I’m the same and have gone into hibernation in this weather. I usually love this icy sunny weather but have been feeling really run down so am taking it really easy this week.

Finally got a date for the 12 week scan - 26th Jan, it’s all getting very real now!

Mulner88 · 16/12/2022 13:37

I also don't think there's any need to defer. I was born on August 23rd and I had just turned 4 a couple of weeks and I managed fine with my fellow students who were turning 5 in Sep/Oct!

ChloeN · 16/12/2022 13:45

@somuchtolearnabout I think I would just wait and see! I wouldn’t mind having them home an extra year but if they seem ready to go then I would let them. I’ve never even heard of waiting until it was mentioned here!

Alexandra07 · 16/12/2022 13:48

@somuchtolearnabout i wouldn't defer unless there is a reason, the child is behind. But I am concerned about them being 17 when everyone else is 18 and can go out to a pub for drinks. Anyone else an August baby? How did you feel?
And how do you organise a birthday party during school holidays when most are away? Or you do it in July or September while schools are open?

SnowL2021 · 16/12/2022 14:43

How did those of you with 12-week scans find out about them? I only know about my booking appointment because I looked at the appointments section of My Pregnancy Notes website (no letter, call etc). Wondering whether the scan will just appear on there one day, too x

somuchtolearnabout · 16/12/2022 14:43

@Alexandra07 I just asked my mum because two of my sisters are summer babies and my husband is 27th July and mum said that she always gave plenty of notice for their bday parties, and just accepted that there would always be a few people who couldn't make it. I'm due 11th August but I'd say there's def flexibility to have their party a few weeks before their birthday if it meant more people could come?! Also with the 17/18 thing - I distinctly remember my summer born friends using my older sister's ID to get in everywhere 😂 where there's a will there's a way!

@CityKity yayyy! Mine is 30th January which feels a lifetime away now, but I know it'll come round so quickly.

@Mulner88 agreed!

Mine came through via email with dates for both, but maybe yours will just come through the app as well if that's how your booking appt came through. You could always call and ask. It seems as though some people didn't get their scan until after their booking appt though so maybe your trust will be the same?

TheBirdintheCave · 16/12/2022 14:53

@SnowL2021 Ours is given after the booking in appointment I believe.

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 15:15

This is interesting as I’d imagined lots of people would be keen to defer. Nursery fees are a very good reason not to though. I’m at home anyway so it would just mean an extra year of having them at home for me. I just need to make sure my sanity can stand it!

OP posts:
sally16 · 16/12/2022 15:21

We're up Scotland so maybe different but if we defer for any reason they still get the 30 hours nursery funded!
We're currently thinking of deferring DS due to development delays but will see how he goes :)

sally16 · 16/12/2022 15:23

@Alexandra07 on birthday partys.. DS is 4 days before Xmas and we just send invites out the month before and would likely give invites out on last week of school before holidays for new baby :)

BCxx · 16/12/2022 15:30

A bit of urgency has just come over me to get my flu vaccine before I’m any further on. I’ll be 5 weeks on Monday so thinking it could have a heartbeat after that and I know it’s safe to get the flu one anytime but would rather just do it before it could affect any wee person in there 🙈 Otherwise I’ll end up putting it off and off. Is anyone waiting til 12 weeks for theirs? I don’t think I’d think twice about it if it wasn’t for all the covid stuff. My cousin had a miscarriage the day after she got her covid one but that was most likely just pure coincidence as they’ve been proven safe to get, I’m just a bit on edge now about either! There’s a drop in on til 7pm tonight and it says pregnant women can just turn up so I think I’m going to go there. Although what’s to stop any random person just saying they’re pregnant so they get a free flu vaccine? 🤣

AnnieApple123 · 16/12/2022 15:31

@sally16 Actually you’d continue to get the 30 hours here in England too if you qualified for them. For everyone else it would be 15 hours which I realise is a lot less than most need and that many nurseries charge a top-up over that anyway in practice.

@PumpkinEverything Yeah to be fair my eldest is a wonderful help with littlest at the moment. The thought of another pregnancy in such a short amount of time is scaring me coz the last one was rough, much worse than first. Although the birth was much easier than the first. I also can’t imagine weaning along with pregnancy fatigue and sickness. How did you find the gap with yourself and your sisters? Was/are you close? I don’t want to push my eldest out either. X
