Pregant after miscarriage - support thread

Hi everyone,

I'm new to posting on mumsnet, but have spent plenty of time reading through others' conversations for reassurance when anxious, and this seems like such a friendly place!

I've just found out I'm pregnant again after the miscarriage of my first at 11 weeks in August. I would love to connect with other people in a similar situation.

I'm feeling relatively ok, i.e. not totally panicked all the time, about this one, but I know it's going to be hard. I really find it hard to believe sometimes that this could work out.

Please send a comment if you're in a similar situation and would like to share/receive some support!

hi all, can i join please? i'm only 4+5 today, so early on but panicking about so much due to previous MC in Feb, trying to remember all might be normal this time

but i did the 21 day progesterone test this cycle (before my bfp) and the doctor said the level was low and they couldn't confirm ovulation with this level, although clearly i did ovulate! Now i'm worried i won't have enough progesterone to sustain this pregnancy

I wasn't sure if i wanted to know but i ordered another private test and i'll await the results of that to see if its increased since implantation, though i'm going to be very surprised if it's gone up by that much as it was so low, i also dont know how i managed to get the BFP with it so low in the first place! HCG still seems to be increasing, tests are darker and I feel a bit yuck now....

I've heard that progesterone is released in surges and can change quickly... does anyone have any experience of low progesterone? I did the test because my Luteal after MC has only been 8-9 days long

@TTCxox funny what you said about scaring people in the pregnancy group, i really find it hard when people are excited about the 2nd line, because i know that doesnt mean you're bringing home a healthy baby in 9 months, its really hard

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/05/2023 19:58

@suz2285 I'm 4+5 too! It is so very nerve wracking, I'm terrified! I can't help with the progesterone stuff as I've never had mine tested! I've done so many pregnancy tests too, and majority were faint positive lines! Haven't done any for a couple of days though, need to try to distract myself otherwise it's all I'm going to be thinking about until the scan xx

suz2285 · 17/05/2023 20:49

@Brokenpancreas94 honestly I got the test cos I was worried I wouldn't be able to get pregnant with the short luteal phase but tbh I wish I hadn't cos it's just making me more worried

I've done the second one but nothing I can do if it's not gone up... there's literally no right answer, there is nothing I can do except worry

I did another pregnancy test this morning because I felt 'not pregnant'! I def did not do this last time! It was still extremely positive

I'm also still having random cramping and feeling like AF is arriving but apparently this is normal too....

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/05/2023 20:53

@suz2285 I know exactly what you mean in regards to feeling like AF is coming, I feel the same!
I had slight discharge today and feeling like that means something bad but it's all normal apparently, just can't help but worry!
Im feeling dumb but what's a luteal phase?

suz2285 · 17/05/2023 21:21

@Brokenpancreas94 luteal phase is between ovulation and af arriving, it should be 12-14 days... if it's shorter than that it can indicate hormonal imbalance

Mine was 9 the last 2 months and then this month positive test... hence doing the check for low progesterone

tulipsunday · 17/05/2023 21:28

Still got crampy AF like feelings at 5wks+5 so sympathise it can mess your head up a bit. Those pesky hormones! Enjoying having a week off as can take some nap breaks in the afternoon when tiredness hits. Going to be tough when back to work next week! Happy 6 weeks @TunnocksTCake and good luck for your appointment Friday @Stressedannni

Brokenpancreas94 · 17/05/2023 22:45

@suz2285 ahh okay that makes sense now, thank you for explaining 😊

@tulipsunday hope you have a relaxing week off! Feeling better this time round, seem to be able to stomach the 5mg folic acid too

Brokenpancreas94 · 18/05/2023 16:51

What a day, I'm so sick of diabetes 😩my insulin pump had a critical error earlier so my blood sugar is sky high!!! Of all the times for it to happen it happens in early pregnancy 😭 giving me more and more doubt that this will be a successful pregnancy 😭
Sorry I just needed to vent a little

suz2285 · 18/05/2023 16:59

@Brokenpancreas94 ahhh your user name suddenly checks out! Sorry your pump is being a pain, my sister is type 1 and only got diagnosed a few years ago in her mid30s which came as quite a shock to us all

I'm sure baby is well protected in there 🤞 can you speak to a diabetes nurse?

My legs and knees are so sore tonight, I usually get this before a period and I've had it on and off during this last few weeks but haven't had it for a while, it always just feels like AF is away to arrive, not good! Let's hope it's just hormones going wild! I've been feeling really sick all day today

Brokenpancreas94 · 18/05/2023 17:38

@suz2285 aha, yes, I'm type 1 was diagnosed when I was 13! Such a rollercoaster!
I hope so 😩😩
Nightmare to get hold of them 🙄sugars have come back down now though. But will be mentioning it at my appointment on Monday.
I had hip, leg, groin and back pain last night all on my left side, which I usually get around the time period is due too, although it sometimes plays up at other times too, due to having a slipped disc, had surgery on my back a few years ago but still have issues occasionally! Xx

suz2285 · 18/05/2023 17:41

@Brokenpancreas94 ah yes! I get sciatic type pain from an old injury but it flares up with the hormones, I can only imagine it'll be way worse if I ever make it to later pregnancy

I feel so sick but it also feels like AF is about to start, this is not fun! Too many unknowns!

Brokenpancreas94 · 18/05/2023 18:08

@suz2285 I get the sciatic pain from the discs and then the hip pain because I broke my ankle and that gets stiff still sometimes so I don't walk properly apparently 🤦🏼‍♀️

The nausea comes and goes for me but it's not too dreadful! I'm just so tired!

tulipsunday · 19/05/2023 07:59

@Brokenpancreas94 what a nightmare and not what you need. Hope it has settled out.

Sounds like lots of us are tired and achey. Back ache has stepped up a bit and just feel so lethargic. Nausea quite mild and comes and goes. Happy to have got to 6 weeks. Scan one week today 😬 booking appointment booked for 5th June x

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 09:31

@tulipsunday thank you, it seems to be okay today...so far.

The groin and hip pain kept me awake last night and paracetamol didn't help, I usually take naproxen for the hip pain but obviously cannot take that now. I am 5 weeks today xx

suz2285 · 19/05/2023 11:11

@Brokenpancreas94 we have the same dates, i'm 5 weeks today too!

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 11:22

Ahh fingers crossed for both of us @suz2285 ❤️❤️

38andtrying · 19/05/2023 11:35

Congrats to everyone, early pregnancy is the hardest, so worried every minute of the day, i am glad to be past it.

I am 14w+4 today but i still have anxiety, I am so afraid to let my guard down, had a great scan last week at 13+3, nothing concerning at all, have another appointment for quad test this thursday when i will be 15w+3 but already the nerves are starting.

I am over analysing every little thing, i know MC at this stage is not very common but i cant help thinking oh don't relax because it could be you

pregnancy after loss is very hard :(

Stressedannni · 19/05/2023 13:05

Hi all had my first midwife appointment. Recognised her from when my last baby died at the hospital. She was nice. Got my 12 week scan on Tuesday. Just taking it minute by minute. Anyone on anxiety meds at all???

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 13:28

@Stressedannni hope all goes well for you! I am on venlaxafaxine! I was on sertraline in my first pregnancy

Stressedannni · 19/05/2023 14:21

GP has been useless so far. Too early for perinatal team. 😬

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 14:34

@Stressedannni have you been on meds beforehand for anxiety? With my daughter I was seen very early by perinatal and a psych doctor xx

Stressedannni · 19/05/2023 15:01

Yeah but they said they weren't compatible with pregnancy

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 15:24

@Stressedannni what were you on if you don't mind me asking? Usually they would find one suitable for you x

WitcheryDivine · 19/05/2023 16:02

Can I join? I'm on the Due Jan thread but I feel like I keep banging on about previous miscarriage (MMC at 12 week scan) and feel like a downer for the others.

It's so hard to feel optimistic but also so hard trying to crush those feelings of optimism when they do occur! At the moment I'm just not telling anyone and trying not to think of it constantly (good one, I know) til that 12 week scan is over, and it brings whatever it will bring.

Brokenpancreas94 · 19/05/2023 17:43

Welcome @WitcheryDivine I know what you mean! I'm not on the due in January thread yet, I might join. Your feelings are valid though, I feel exactly the same! Fingers crossed for all of us xx
