feistymumma · 19/11/2022 04:20

Due date is November 30, so happy I don't have to wait two more weeks

Eryr22 · 19/11/2022 05:37

Congratulations @CurlyNo2 I'm getting goosebumps thinking about that moment baby gets placed on our chest!

Thank you for all the lovely messages, I'm feeling a lot better. Thank god for antibiotics!

I thought it might be a good idea for us to write some little tips we've found useful so far incase they help others who are struggling?

I'm expressing, breastfeeding and giving formula because of some VERY sore nipples! I've found that breastfeeding and giving expressed milk in the day, and then formula at night helps her sleep sooo much better!

Also, for the first 4 nights she refused to be put down! Me and my husband worked in 5 hour shifts and slept in separate rooms to give each other a rest. If you're also experiencing a cuddly baby like us... it will end!! I think there was a bit of day/ night confusion going on too. We found being noisier in the day and letting lots of natural light in, and making it dark and quiet at night has helped. Although it may be a fluke!

Those with sore, cracked nipples. I've found mine are taking a very long time to heal! Try not to rush back into breastfeeding if it's sore. I think it takes more time than we think. My baby has had no problems with her latch despite breast and formula feeding.

I'm not sure these will work for every baby because they're all so different but I'd have loved to have known these things a week ago!! 😅

Hope you're all enjoying newborn cuddles and it's really not long to go now for the rest of you! Only so long baby can stay in there! And the pelvis, back ache, heartburn relief etc is incredible! X

Eryr22 · 19/11/2022 05:38

@feistymumma I'm so excited for you! The relief is going to be amazing x

blacksheep2014 · 19/11/2022 06:50

After a fairly traumatic 49 hours with the cressendo of an emcs, we now have a a healthy, beautiful and contented 7lb 7oz DS. Born on the 17th at 0059.

greenerfingers · 19/11/2022 07:06

Congratulations @blacksheep2014 ! Sorry to hear it was so traumatic but I'm glad you're on the mend. Take it easy and enjoy your baby xx

Hope it's a quick and smooth induction @feistymumma and babe is here soon.

OtiMama · 19/11/2022 07:23

ah congratulations @blacksheep2014 and @CurlyNo2 hope you are both recovering OK.

I've had a few days of it! Weds told I needed induction for low fluid levels and on list for Thursday. Come in for monitoring, no bed on labour so wait at home. Don't hear anything, Friday go in for monitoring and bed confirmed for 12pm. Get in, attempt to break waters but can't at time due to lack of waters and baby position. Have gel and told to wait 6 hours to 8.30pm...then nothing. At 2am this morning they confirm they don't have enough staff to safely push the induction on. I do feel really bad for the staff, they've had several midwives off ill meant to be on shift and emergencies coming in. So I was given a painkiller to stop the small cramps I was feeling and got some sleep til 6am. Now on monitor waiting for them to attempt to break my waters again shortly, I am experiencing some tightening and baby is low so fingers crossed he will arrive today on his due date! Baby is fine though which is most important thing, just all so slow!!

tb4122 · 19/11/2022 09:36

@OtiMama I hope things get moving for you soon. Due date here too but no signs of anything. Same hospital too, slightly sad to hear staffing tricky but obviously feel for them too as nothing they can do if staff off unwell. I wonder whether low staffing means they wouldn't be able to open the birth centre, as all hands needed (understandably) in the labour ward.

OtiMama · 19/11/2022 10:27

@tb4122 for natural labour they will of course accommodate you and emergencies, it's just because of that and the fact they can stall me that they are doing it to manage staff levels. I cannot actually fault the staff though as they are lovely.

tb4122 · 19/11/2022 10:51

@OtiMama I've only ever heard good things about the staff so that's one worry off my mind. I'm just wondering whether the birth centre takes a back seat if all staff are needed on labour ward as in the birth centre it's one to one care so obviously quite labour intensive when they're already struggling for staff numbers. As I say, it's understandable if that is the case and it must be stressful for them.

feistymumma · 19/11/2022 11:21

@greenerfingers @Eryr22 thank you x

Feb85 · 19/11/2022 14:30

Looking for some advice DD is just over two weeks old and I have came out in a cold sore today I have called the midwife who has basically just told me how dangerous it can be for a newborn but the only thing i can do is wash hands, don’t kiss baby, don’t hold baby much and get some cream. I asked about the tablets you can take but she said no there only for people with extreme previous cases. I am extremely worried and wondering has anyone else had experience with this happening or any other advice that could help please. Also I have had cold sores during pregnancy I tend to get them when run down so would this mean baby would have any resistance against it.

Im so tired.. I haven’t slept since Thursday night! Having some complications so will be in the hospital for a little while longer and I just can’t settle and drop off 😩

greenerfingers · 20/11/2022 01:23

Hope you get some rest @CurlyNo2

Currently up with severe lower back pain. I can't tell if it's braxton hicks or just lower back pain. Whatever it is I hope I can sleep through it till tomorrow as there are no community midwives available tonight Sad

Oh no, have you taken any pain relief? Hope you feel better soon. I'm so sleepy but struggling to nod off. I didn't go in for my induction in the end as they called me to ask if I could come in this morning instead as they were short staffed and near capacity. Hopefully it will be less busy today.

greenerfingers · 20/11/2022 08:44

Hope you managed to get some sleep @feistymumma. I find it so hard the constant changing with induction etc due to staff. I understand of course but love to stick to a plan.

I managed to nod off with some ibuprofen. Felt great having it after so many months. Woke up with a very sore lower back still, think my body is just unable to handle this weight anymore.

rowanlallen · 20/11/2022 17:11

Hi guys!
I am a university student looking for people to take part in my research into the effects of stress on parenting and infant sleep. It would really help us out if you could take 5 minutes to fill in our survey. Please email [email protected] if you are interested and I will send you the link.
Many thanks, Rowan :)

How are all of our pregnant mummas feeling?

How are our PP mamas doing?

I'm 1 week PP and finally starting to feel human again. I had a post partum hemorrhage at birth and the recovery has been pretty unpleasant.

Oh the plus side, we had a breakthrough with breastfeeding today! Baby will still only latch on one side but it a start ❤️

greenerfingers · 21/11/2022 01:14

Hey @roobearbaby, sorry to hear about the haemorrhage. I haemorrhaged real bad (due to the doctor) with my first, I was so traumatised I had a home birth for my second. I found eating well and taking supplements really helpful. Glad to hear baby is latching, they can be such stubborn things. My son preferred one side and even now my colostrum is more on that side. He stopped breastfeeding ages ago but think my body is programmed that way now.

I'm 39 weeks today and feel like I've been pregnant 39 years in the last 2 weeks. I was told I could have baby right after my procedure 2 weeks ago so every day since then has felt an age. I do wonder how much longer I have left as it's all so uncomfortable now and I have literally nothing left to do. I fill my days and cook/clean/bake and still I'm so overcome by my impatience. Currently suffering bad insomnia and am so tired yet so wide awake so just cleaned the house top to bottom and did some laundry (it was already pretty clean tbh but just wiped the floors/bins/sills/bathroom etc again).

roobearbaby · 21/11/2022 01:26

@greenerfingers the PPH wasnt my favourite experience. Actually, probably one of the most scary experiences of my life. I have some drugs from the hospital to help me get back up to strength and eating as much as I can, when I can!

The end of pregnancy insomnia is so infuriating. At least you are being productive, I just laid and watched TV with mine 🤣.

Fingers crossed baby arrives soon, they like to keep us waiting don't they!

ALittleBitofVitriol · 21/11/2022 01:57

Glad you're starting to feel better @roobearbaby sorry about the pph, this birth business is no joke! Fantastic news on the breastfeeding! I swear sometimes they just need their mouths to grow a little bigger. My little one is 17 days old now and doing well, I weighed him at home the other day and he's regained and passed his birth weight, an even 4kg now! Such a relief, I was a little concerned as my milk seems less bountiful this time. He also definitely favours my right side, as the left side is a bit flat. I try to offer him the left side first, I don't want to end up lopsided 😆 at least the pain has mostly stopped now, just the first sting as he latches on.

Woo 39 weeks! @greenerfingers nearly there! Well done on all the baking and cleaning, future-you will be so thankful! 😄

Dh went back to work today. It has been SO nice having him home this past month.

C/s mums, is it normal for the area above the scar to be a bit swollen? The scar is mostly healing well, still tender especially above, there's 2 little spots that look less healed and I think the swollen top is preventing it from drying out properly in those spots. I've been keeping an eye on it & no other symptoms and I don't think it's infected, my body temperature is hovering around the 37° mark. There's also a little line on one side that seems... hard, like scar tissue maybe? I feel like an idiot I have no idea what's normal with c/s recovery and overthinking every cramp/twinge!

TFMinx · 21/11/2022 03:13

@roobearbaby fantastic news about the latch! DD has also started latching (at last!) in the past couple of days, but my god the pain! She also prefers one side over the other, so im still pumping as I don't want to become engorged of have mastitis. Ahh well, we'll keep going with the breastfeeding and hope it gets better as we both learn.

VolcanicProtectorMan · 21/11/2022 06:51

Hi all, just catching up. Hope things happen soon for you @greenerfingers and glad to hear about BF @roobearbaby!

Had my baby early hours Saturday (19th). All happened very quickly. Outing for those in the facebook group, oh well 😂 had a stay on postnatal overnight where I didn’t sleep at all, so just survived our first night home doing shifts overnight. I’m planning to combination feeding him anyway and my milk isn’t in yet but I definitely needed the help and rest last night.

If you wanted to add me to birth list I was due 20th.
