Congratulations @Bubblegum20, great news and happy to hear you got some rest @Beanniebaby22

I just woke to pee and my body was trying to refuse. That was the best sleep I've had in ages so I tried my damndest to stay asleep but alas the pressure won. Was barely anything after all that 🙄.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 18/11/2022 04:50

Congratulations @Bubblegum20! 💙💙💙

Re breastfeeding, yeah it's tough at the beginning. I find that after about 3 weeks it starts getting easier, as long as no more problems arise (like the nipple thrush I got with #4, ouch). Their mouths are just so small that a good latch is difficult. I found all the 'perfect latch' pressure a bit much, imo it's more a matter of just getting them on as well as possible and as much as possible. We did give a little bit of water/formula in the first couple of days because I was worried about my milk supply taking ages to come in (it came in late day 4ish). Now I'm 15 days post partem and breastfeeding is starting to get easier, he seems to be getting enough/sleeping well/wet nappies etc and it's starting to not be quite so sore on the poor nipples. Lanolin is a must in those early days, applied after every feed if possible! Basically, establishing breastfeeding is a full-time job in the first few weeks.

Hi everyone, baby is a week old today. I'm currently in hospital because I have sepsis after my perineal stitches got infected. I'm on the mend though! Feeling very emotional because baby went home with dad last night because I thought it would be calmer for her there. Just so you all know what to look for; I had no strange discharge, no smelly pads. I had what I thought were night sweats (and so did the midwife when I rang for advice!), my foof and bum then became unbearably itchy (like nothing I have ever felt/ thought possible!), couldn't stop shaking, and discomfort/ mild-mod pain down there. So anything like this please get it checked out because it's been such a scary ordeal! X

Eryr22 · 18/11/2022 06:09

And I agree to BF being really hard! I'm currently lying here with two sore, cracked nipples.

Nipple shields, Lansinoh cream, and expressing have been incredible. We're also giving formula at night because she sleeps so much better on it. My nipples were raw with all of the times she was waking up in the night!

OtiMama · 18/11/2022 07:02

@Beanniebaby22 glad you are having a more positive experience now with the feeding and baby being content.

@Bubblegum20 huge congratulations!

@Eryr22 so sorry you've had complications. You haven't had an easy time at all. Hope you are on the mend very soon and baby is doing ok too.

Feeding is so much harder for most than they tell you pre birth. I am trying not to think about it in advance too much this time as last time i found it hard, we has issues and whilst I was so proud to get there and feed my son in the end even thinking about it again this time makes me wince a bit.

I was meant to be induced yesterday, still waiting for space on the ward to go in. I called last night and was told the head midwife would call me back, nothing. I hate being pushy too. Will ring again in a bit as probably need to go in for more monitoring if no space still. I had a sweep yesterday again and nothing but some bleeding. Even less cramps from it than Tuesdays but they confirmed again my waters could be broken to start the induction. Just a big waiting game by the phone really! Grandpa has had my son for the last day, so I have kind of enjoyed being able to rest more but hoping to go in soon so he isn't away too long. My son sees his grandparents most days so it's not that odd for him really which is good.

Myfairytalecametrue · 18/11/2022 08:01

Morning all,

I've been following this thread for a long time but haven't posted as I'm generally quite a boring person! I've seen some great advice from you all though and enjoyed seeing the baby announcements 👶 congratulations!
Decided to post as I can't seem to find the answers online and I've already called the Labour ward twice recently and don't want to keep bothering them. For the past 3 days I've had intermittent bloody discharge, which I assumed was the bloody show. I've not known it to happen for so long though so I'm starting to overthink...has anyone else experienced similar?

curlywurly10 · 18/11/2022 08:16

@Eryr22
omg that sounds so scary☹️ glad to hear you're on the mend, hopefully it's a speedy recovery and that sucks about being apart from your baby, hoping all is well soon. Thank you for sharing also, so other mamas know what to look out for!!

This whole tread has been extremely helpful and saved me a lot of unnecessary calls to the midwife lol

CurlyNo2 · 18/11/2022 08:32

Eek… I don’t know if my waters are leaking or I’m just a sweaty Betty this morning.

My knickers were really damp this morning, not soaking just noticeably wet. There was a straw coloured patch in the crotch of my underwear. Now I don’t know if this could just be watery discharge mixed in with sweat or whether my waters are leaking. I have popped a pad on to see what happens this morning. Has anybody else had this?

@Eryr22 How scary, really glad it was picked up and you’re on the mend.

@Myfairytalecametrue welcome! I have heard that your show could happen over a number of days, but maybe contact your midwife to query this just to be sure. How many weeks are you?

Congratulations @Bubblegum20 thats wonderful news!

greenerfingers · 18/11/2022 08:46

I've had noticeable increased watery discharge this last week or so @CurlyNo2. When my waters were leaking I felt a pop and they'd leak throughout the day like a period and I had contractions. Not sure if that's helps.

Myfairytalecametrue · 18/11/2022 08:46

Thanks for the response, I'm 39+2 today. Ahh hopefully it's that and he's almost here then!

Thank you, that’s really helpful. I’m gonna see how I get on with this pad on today and if it’s wet in a couple of hours I’ll give the triage a call.

I had to have my waters broken when I was in labour with my son. All this uncertainty is really stressful! I was given a Group B Step result last year following my TFMR which seems to have disappeared as I recently had a swab done and it came back negative but it still worries me in case between now and then it’s positive again. I know I’ll need IV antibiotics at the delivery regardless because I have already has a positive result at some point.

CurlyNo2 · 18/11/2022 11:32

The hospital test has come back positive for amniotic fluid. I’m just waiting for the doctor to come and see me as they may want to bring by ELCS forward to tonight or tomorrow.

They used a speculum and since then I’ve got fresh red blood as I think she may have nicked me somewhere.

Absolutely shitting it!!!

tb4122 · 18/11/2022 11:38

@CurlyNo2 eek, when I read your post this morning I thought "hmmm, same here". Might go and stick a pad on now...

Good luck for your section, how exciting Smile

CurlyNo2 · 18/11/2022 12:00

I’m on the emergency section list for today. Just rang my husband for him to come to the hospital. It all feels very real right now.

Need to get an IV antibiotics drip in due to the GBS result I previously had. Because I ate this morning I need to wait until at least 6 hours before they can take me down.

Beanniebaby22 · 18/11/2022 12:11

@CurlyNo2 good luck hope it all goes ok for you xx

greenerfingers · 18/11/2022 21:32

Best wishes @CurlyNo2 hope it's all smooth sailing and great you got checked out.

Feeling super sorry for myself tonight with the SPD pains.

CurlyNo2 · 18/11/2022 22:16

Baby boy born at 7.13pm weighing 8.11 1/2lbs. He is amazing and the image of his big brother. Didn’t manage to harvest any colostrum but he latched on instantly and has had a good feed.

It was an elective/emergency one as labour started a few hours before they could slot me in.

Section was amazing! Not sure I’ll be loving it so much tomorrow when the pain kicks in.

MadamMaltesers · 18/11/2022 22:29

@CurlyNo2 congratulations! You're probably still in recovery. Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery.

Beanniebaby22 · 18/11/2022 22:46

Congratulations @CurlyNo2 ❤️

greenerfingers · 18/11/2022 23:19

Aww @CurlyNo2 congratulations. So happy for you! You've left me to be due at the end of the month on my own now 😆😅. Brilliant to hear about the feeding x

ALittleBitofVitriol · 19/11/2022 00:57

Oh congratulations @CurlyNo2! So glad it went well in the end and you have your baby boy in your arms! Best wishes for a swift recovery. 💙

ALittleBitofVitriol · 19/11/2022 00:59

@Eryr22 gosh I'm so sorry to hear about the complications! Hope you're getting some good rest and recover quickly.

@OtiMama, hope you've got a slot for your induction! Good luck!

Elle1709 · 19/11/2022 01:18

Congratulations to everyone who has had their beautiful babies 👶 and good luck to everyone still waiting! Baby girl nearly 3 weeks old, the time goes so fast x

CurlyNo2 · 19/11/2022 03:00

Thanks everyone, he’s amazing!

Had s bit of a scare earlier with a lot of bleeding and panic buttons being pressed, but fingers crossed I should be ok in the morning.

Because i had him so late, my husband pretty much got booted out once I’d left the recovery ward. Not sure I’m going to get much sleep, if any tonight.

feistymumma · 19/11/2022 04:19

Congratulations to all the new mama's. Hope you are getting loads of cuddles and kisses in. My SPD got so awful I was in tears and luckily I had a consultant appointment yesterday. She took one look at me on my crutches and called to book me in for an induction so I am going in tonight at 6:30pm. I could have cried with relief, I should have had it booked in ages ago but the last doctor I saw wouldn't as she thought I was making up the pain and she would only believe in was in pain if I turned up at my next appointment with a support belt smh. Anyway tonight it is ladies, hopefully it's not too busy and they can start the ball rolling tonight.
