ALittleBitofVitriol · 09/11/2022 01:54

@CurlyNo2 I discharged myself early, I only stayed one night, went home about 30hours post surgery. I had intended to stay 2 nights but 1. I really do not like being in hospital and 2. They were so. busy. it was ridiculous and I felt sorry for the midwives. They just kind of left me alone because it's my 5th baby and I was mostly feeling fine. I had to ask for everything though, pain meds, cath removal etc. By the end of the first night I was so ready to be done. At least at home I can do my pain meds at the proper times and have dh help with the baby! I had to prove that I was steady on my feet (went and had a shower) and pass enough urine twice (feeling that urge is apparently one of the last sensations to return after a spinal) but they were happy with all that.

Advice - hmmm, I guess don't be afraid or shy to ask for help in hospital, tell them what you need. They gave me a compression band thing for around my waist which was really helpful. Beware of looking up at the big shiny light, you might be able to see a reflection of over the sheet! I was curious but a couple of brief peeks was more than enough for me. I was surprised by the actual getting him out sensations - everything I read glossed over that! They said 'you'll feel some pushing and pulling' or 'like someone doing the washing up in your tummy' sounds almost cutesy. No, it was proper pushing and pulling like a tug of war with my organs. Maybe it was because he was really wedged in breech that it was worse but it wasn't gentle at all!
And don't be fooled by the drugs & overdo it, rest more than you think you need to.

@Dontbeaneejit aww hope you feel better soon 💚 the baby blues are so real, I remember with my 3rd just lying on the couch and crying lol. Yesterday I woke up crying and it continued on and off all day. Yes there's so many strange sensations, it does feel exactly like someone cut me open and stitched me back up. It was just a bit overwhelming yesterday, my feet/ankles are swollen, thighs bruised from the injections, scar across my poor numb/bruised/sore/swollen belly, leaking boobs lol. Just, too much all at once in the fog of the baby blues! I'm feeling much better today!

Elle1709 · 09/11/2022 03:09

@CurlyNo2 I'm day 8 post c section now. I also stayed one night, went up at 8.30am and was home next day by 2pm. I found the actual surgery really calm, I didn't feel any pain just some tugging and pulling. You can ask for them to do certain things before they start as well like drop curtain when baby is born and they did delayed cord clamping with me as well. I was able to hold baby as soon as she was checked over. I'd say get yourself some really nice snacks for post surgery as you will have fasted from the night before. Afterwards I wasn't in much pain as I kept asking for pain relief. I would also say take it really slowly when they first get you up for a shower. I fainted in the bathroom which was the worst part of the experience for me, I think it was too soon for me to get up but they try and push it so you can get home the next day. I ended up compromising and sitting at the sink to wash my face and didn't get a shower till the next day. My pain was worst on day 2-3, but by day 5 I felt much better and now I've managed a walk around town and I've stopped all the pain medication. I also packed peppermint tea and prunes and drank/ate these to help with trapped wind and constipation which id read could happen and didn't get any problems so I think it may have helped! My partner was able to stay the night with me, but if you are on your own on the postnatal ward I would definitely say ring the bell and get all the help from the midwives as you won't be able to get up/move around properly until the next day. Hope everything goes well for you, good luck xx

Elle1709 · 09/11/2022 03:13

I've also experiencing what I think must be the baby blues. I've been feeling quite lonely, especially during the night feeds and a bit emotional about how different my body is, I got a lot of stretch marks and my belly is still looking very pregnant. I've also been quite anxious for no reason really I think lack of sleep isn't helping! Baby just had a four hour stretch, so I'm feeling positive about this.

OtiMama · 09/11/2022 03:35

Awake again at 3am here.

Sorry you're all experiencing those post baby hormone rushes. Hope things settle down for you all soon, it is really tough, I feel like i have forgotten all of this. Of course that is probably the trap to having more!

@Elle1709 you definitely need to give yourself some time, your body will change again and not be like it is now forever. I found it hard to get into a groove for night feeds too last time, the lack of sleep is one of the main issues but try and embrace what it is, you have to be awake and this time I will take more advantage of TV, snacks etc! I feel like if all mums could wave a magic sleep wand everything would just seem so much better wouldn't it. In my head I keep thinking can't wait for baby, fed up of waking in the night right now, I seem to be deluded as deep down I know I will be awake even more then!

NotAdultingToday · 09/11/2022 07:41

Congratulations @Bramblecrumble22 😊

I will update the birth list and re engage with conversations soon, atm cant see straight from exhaustion struggling to keep my eyes open!

Baby girl arrived this morning at 4:23am weighing 7.3lbs. Induction process started 2pm previous day, so it did take a little while to kick in. Just had my second toast with tea. Amazing.

CurlyNo2 · 09/11/2022 10:20

@ALittleBitofVitriol @Elle1709 thank you, that’s really helpful advice.

Oh how wonderful @CurlsnLipstick hope you’re both doing ok. How amazing is that first tea and toast…

I have just had my last midwife appointment at my local surgery. I’m so hormonal and tired that I cried and my 10min appt turned into 45 mins (sorry to those waiting after me!). I’m such a mess today, anxiety about whether the hospital will be able to fit me in next week, all my joints are swollen and painful, BP was slightly raised, general anxieties as I keep thinking something will happen and I won’t be taking a baby home. Sorry for being a moaning Minnie, I’m just fed up and want baby here safe and sound now.

On a positive note, I slept in the sofa and didn’t wake from midnight till 5.30am! Whoop!!

WandaVon · 09/11/2022 12:14

Baby boy arrived early this morning at 3.54 after my waters dramatically going at 3pm on Tuesday. Born at 38+5. 7lb 15oz. I'm loving the cuddles and I'm thrilled to have the labour over me. It was soooo much easier than with my daughter.

sarahj878 · 09/11/2022 12:19

Congratulations @WandaVon and @CurlsnLipstick!

I’ve just had last midwife appt and measuring a week ahead still. Feeling much more organised than I did in previous pregnancy, house all cleaned and tidied, bags packed etc so going to be soaking up these last few days with my son and taking some time to chill now.

sarahj878 · 09/11/2022 12:20

@CurlyNo2 sorry to hear you’re getting the guilt pangs too but also reassuring to know I’m not alone in these emotions!

greenerfingers · 09/11/2022 12:29

Congratulations @WandaVon and @CurlsnLipstick ! Lovely news 🥰

@sarahj878 I'm all set too but kind of regret it as instead of chilling it's made me so impatient 🥵. I'm only 37 weeks!

CurlyNo2 · 09/11/2022 12:47

Congratulations @WandaVon fantastic news!

sarahj878 · 09/11/2022 12:48

@greenerfingers aw I know what you mean. I’m trying to fill the time making some memories with my son whilst it’s just him, so got lots of crafts etc planned in. Also going to do some batch cooking I think to make things easier on other half after my section. Anyone got any go to freezer recipes? So far I’ve just got the usuals! Lasagne, spag Bol etc and fear we will get bored of these quickly!

Beanniebaby22 · 09/11/2022 13:14

Congratulations @CurlsnLipstick @WandaVon 😊 loving all the baby news.

CurlyNo2 · 09/11/2022 13:35

So my BP has gone from being around 105-110/65 to 138/86. No protein in urine.

Midwife took it twice to be sure and didn’t seem too worried, however…. Being the worry wart I am, I am thinking worst case scenarios.

Do you think I need to worry at this stage?

curlywurly10 · 09/11/2022 13:49

congratulations to @WandaVon and @CurlsnLipstick ☺️☺️
it's getting hard to keep track of all the births lately, sooo many babies!

Beanniebaby22 · 09/11/2022 14:44

@CurlyNo2 I don’t think so. your BP is still within normal range.

I’ve had protein in my urine the last 3 appointments and they haven’t been worried because BP was ok.

tb4122 · 09/11/2022 18:00

@sarahj878 I've been batch cooking and so far I've done chilli con carne, beef stew and meatballs. Planning spag Bol and lasagne as well and maybe a fish pie. Not sure what else to cook in bulk that freezes well.

I've been booked in for my next midwife appointment in 2 weeks when I'll be officially 40w4d, if he hasn't arrived by then. Midwife says she will offer me a sweep at that point if I want one but I think I'm inclined to decline it. I'll be 40w4d by my dating scan, 40w2d by my LMP but 39w6d based on when I think I actually conceived, so I don't feel the need for intervention at that point, especially as a FTM who is statistically fairly likely to go to 41w.

sarahj878 · 09/11/2022 18:14

@tb4122 ooh beef stew is a good shout thanks. I’ve gone on the batch lady website today and found some good recipes, going to do a shepherd pie, fish pie, meatballs and some basic pasta sauces if I get time I think.

roobearbaby · 09/11/2022 18:48

I've done various stews, chicken, beef alongside the usual chilli and spag bol. Also done a fish pie and lentil and chorizo stew.

Next on my list is a goulash, a lasagna and some soups that I can have for lunches xxx

Beanniebaby22 · 09/11/2022 19:22

You’re all so organised with your meal prepping 😅

OtiMama · 09/11/2022 19:36

@CurlsnLipstick and @WandaVon congratulations, lovely to have more babies in the group! Hope you are both feeling OK. That toast really is the best of your life!

You guys are so organised with the batch cooking. I did some today for my son, and was impressed with that as he's had mainly toddler ready meals and picnic type lunches and dinners in recent weeks. He does also get homemade food at my parents! I just have no energy to do lots at the moment.

Next week I've got reflexology Monday, midwife with a sweep Tuesday and a scan Wednesday. Ever hopeful some of that may encourage him out haha. Did the food shop today while my son was at pre school, it is so odd not having him or work. I didn't know what to do when I got home. Then I collected him and my step dad kindly had him while he napped and mum and I went out to the pub for lunch. Was great!!

@CurlyNo2 I would like to think that the midwife would say if the BP was an issue. Sometimes they just take it twice if it doesn't match your usual reading just for their own benefit rather than because it's something bad. This happened to me too.

SUSB2016 · 09/11/2022 19:38

Due date was today but pretty uneventful...maybe a blessing in disguise as DD is teething absolutely terribly and I've still got a nasty cold. I just want to fast forward! On the other hand I feel like a new sibling might distract DD from her woes and my cold will clear up quicker once I have my body back.

wibblewobbleball · 09/11/2022 19:41

I've been on mat leave for weeks already so my freezer is so so full! I have baked oats in foil containers for breakfasts for me when DH goes back to work, lasagne, beef pie (beef stew with mash top), a very fancy macaroni cheese, bolognese, chilli, slow
cooked tomato and gammon stew, dal, chicken curry, pulled chicken, sweet chilli chicken, pasta sauces, burgers, meatballs and then soups and I've lots of frozen leftover one person portions for lunches (basically a dinner time where we had a lunch leftover I've frozen it vs eating it the next day). I found it really hard to eat in the two weeks after birth last time, so this time I've also got lots of juices in and some protein shakes to keep my calories up for BF. In other good news I went for my appointment today and got a sweep and I'm already 2-3cm dilated and can be induced in the next few days if I want. I'm so happy!

CurlyNo2 · 09/11/2022 19:55

Thanks Ladies for the reassurance on my BP.

I was in Tescos today and the store assistant, who I don’t know and never met, randomly told me that my bump was very low and looks like baby could come any day!

I still don’t have a c-section date for next week. I’m going to give it to maybe Friday and ring up to see if there has been any progress in finding a slot for me.

Im so envious of all you batch cook experts. We never have any leftovers, my husband is a gannet and eats a lot! I’ve told family and friends not to buy us baby gifts but to bring meals for us all 🤣
